The
Club Secretary's (Gerry Farrelly) report to the AGM held on the 20th of November
2005.
Our
Junior Footballers
This was one of our best years for
some time for our Junior Football Teams.
We started out in February with a
challenge game against Oldcastle under floodlights in the Gilson Park Oldcastle.
This was a very good match as our lads put in a great effort losing out by the
narrowest of margins. But this was the start of a great year for the team with a
huge turnout for training ( up to 40 players) right throughout the season.
Towards the end of February a meeting
was held by the players to select their manager and selectors for the coming
year. Joey Williams was elected the new Player/Manager and Team Trainer. Seamus
Fay, Seamus Leahy and Pat McGinn were elected as Selectors.
We started our League campaign on
March 26 with a Division 6 League Game against Milltown in Ballycomoyle.
This was another tough match with Ballycomoyle running out winners with
the final score:
Ballycomoyle 1.14 Milltown
0.8
We followed this up with a well
earned win over Loughnavalley on April 10th with the final score:
Ballycomoyle 2.6
Loughnavalley 1.5

As evident in the results above we
had a very busy year. Our Junior A team reached the Semi-Final of the
Championship losing out to Ballinagore, eventual winners of the Championship.
But the highlight of this year’s
Championship was the fantastic performance in the Quarter-Final against St.
Lomans.
We also reached the Semi-Final of the
Junior Cup and were in hard luck not to get the result we deserved, losing out
by 2 points to Loughnavalley .
Our season is still not over with
some games in Div. 6 and Div. 7 to be played.
But before I leave the ‘Junior’ scene I have to mention the great commitment
shown by Joey Williams and all the selectors through out the year. And also all
the lads who turned up to train and play in all weathers and still managed to
have a bit of craic. I have to say that there was a great atmosphere both at
training and at all the matches.
All in all it was a great year for football in the club.
Thanks to everyone for their co-operation in 2005 – It was a pleasure working
with you all.
Just a special thanks to David O’Rourke and Andy McEoin for helping out in
First Aid at the matches.
Best of Luck in 2006
LADIES
FOOTBALL
Junior
Girls:
Our junior girls contested all League Games this season, but when they
were drawn against St. Pauls in the Championship neither club could field a
team.
The girls did not play any more in the Championship as it was coming up to exam
time.
Under
14’s
:
Our under 14 Girls played 8 games in total this year under the management
of Claire Coyle. Claire’s comments are that the girls played to the very
best of their ability but again it was very difficult to field 15 players for
every game.
Under
12’s
:
The U12 girls really did us proud
this year, playing 13 games and finishing in the C-Final. This turned out to be
a great match with Ballycomoyle losing out by the narrowest of margins to
Shandonagh in Springfield, Mullingar.
All credit has to go to Helen Coyle for her hard work and commitment & also
to Dermot McKenna for helping out throughout the year.
Overall the ‘Ladies’ put in a great effort and thanks to the trainers
of the various age groups:- Marius Reilly, Ann & Sean Dermody, Christy
Farrelly,
Claire Coyle, Helen Coyle and Dermot McKenna – who did really well with a
very limited amount of players.
Underage
Football
:
This has been another great year for our underage U10’s and
U12’s. They were a credit to the club both on and and off the field.
Just a special word of thanks to the parents for bringing the children to
training every Friday night.
Also, thanks to Michael Fagan for helping with First Aid both at training and
matches.
Full Report from Dermot McKenna, Underage Secretary.
FUNDRAISING
Table
Quiz / Auction:
We held a Table Quiz and Auction in Meehans in Coole on 27th May in aid of
the Ladies Fottball.. This was very well attended with 30 teams participating.
Thanks to Ned Flynn for doing Quizmaster and Seamus McDermott for conducting the
Auction.
Sponsored
Walk:
We held our sponsored walk in Mullaghmeen Forest on Friday 24th June.
A huge amount of people turned out on the evening to make the walk a great
success.
Thanks to our helpers on the evening, John Smyth, Joe Masterson, Maureen Fay,
Ann Dermody, Doreen Farrelly, Helen Coyle and Gerry Farrelly.
Special word of thanks to Ray Farrelly for all his work his organising this
event. Following on the success of this year’s ‘Walk’ we hope to make this
an annual event.
Bag
Pack:
We held our ‘Bag Pack’ from Thursday 18th to Saturday 20th
August. This venture was a great success with a fantastic response from all
parents.
A total of 65 people helped out over the weekend in what was a very well
organised event.
Thanks to the Organising Committee :- Ann Dermody, Claire Coyle, Helen Coyle,
Dermot McKenna & Gerry Farrelly.
OTHER NEW VENTURES
Club
Manual:
The National Club Development and Planning Committee recently
launched the official GAA Club Manual. The Manual is a comprehensive guide to
club management incorporating all areas of the club activity including topics
such as coaching, administration, Information Technology, fundraising,
development and maintenance of physical facilities etc. The manual was launched
in Westmeath September 15th in the Greville Arms. The launch was attended by
John Smyth, Ray Farrelly and Gerry Farrelly. The club received a copy of the
Manual and at the minute it is being circulated to all the members.
Club
Website:
Thanks to Seamus Coyle, we are now gone global with our own Internet
website,. This can be accessed at: (site address)
Gaelic
Telecom:
Our Club is now working with Gaelic Telecom in a drive to generate much
needed funds. At the moment we have 25 – 30 people signed up. Payment into the
Club will be every 6 months. So if you’re not already with Gaelic
Telecom please consider joining. Everyone has already being circulated on the
costs of calls etc. and remember calls between signed up members are FREE
!!!!
Pre
– AGM:
We held our Pre – AGM in Fore National School on October 19th last.
Our thanks to Billy Flanagan and Sean Heavin from Westmeath Development
Committee who presided over this meeting. This Pre-AGM was very well attended by
all sections of the club and it was very informative and a very worthwhile
exercise for all attendees. The feedback that we’re getting from the County
Board is that it was one of the best attended meeting in the County. So thanks
to everyone for the great turnout.
Scor:
On Saturday 12th November we hosted the Final 1st Round of
Scor Na N’og in Collinstown Hall. This was a very enjoyable night with a
capacity crowd.
Everything ran very smoothly and it proved to be one of the highlights of
the year.
Ballycomoyle had two teams entered on the night and everyone who represented the
Club can be very proud of themselves. Well done to Jane Coyle who is going
through in the solo singing section. We wish her the very best of luck.
A special word of thanks to the Club Scor Secretary , Doreen Farrelly who put in
a lot of work behind the scenes and also to Dermot McKenna who did ‘Fear an
Ti’ for the night. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a great success.
Lotto:
This was a good year for our Lotto and it is now capped at
€10,000. We have started our second jackpot and at the minute it stands at
€1,400. A big thanks to Niall McKenna and Seamus McDermott who put in so much
of their time in the running the
Lotto. Full report from
Niall McKenna.
Grounds
Committee:
Thanks to all involved for all the work and improvements in 2005
Full report from the Grounds Committee.
New
Club Wear:
Sincere thanks to McKenna & McEnroe who sponsored a new set
of shorts, socks, t-shirts and sports bag for all the players at the start of
the year.
Social
Nights:
Our first Social Night of the year was in the Lough Lene Inn on
the 26th March. We had a capacity crowd (and more) and it was a brilliant night.
Our second Social Night was held on October 30th in The Pollard Arms and again
it was very well attended.
I would just like to thank all the supporters who travelled to all the matches
this year and also all the members for their help and co-operation throughout
the year.
Finally, thanks to our Co. Board Delegates who attended
all the Co. Board meetings throughout the year.
Signed:
Gerry
Farrell
