Scór Sinsear 2008

The senior scór kicked off for Ballycomoyle this year in the Downs club house on Saturday February 23rd. Bals' entry in this semi-final was as follows.

Category Ballycomoyle GFC
Solo Singing Siobhán Murphy
Recitation Catherine Daly
Ballad Group Gráinne Healy, Doreen Farrelly, Micheál Fagan, Siobhán Murphy and Catherine Daly
Question Time Ray Farrelly, Ciarán Ring and Niall McKenna
Novelty Act Neville Jessop, Anna-Marie McKenna, Neil Salmon, Seamus McDermott, Dermot McKenna, Catherine Daly, Doreen Farrelly and Gráinne Healy.

Three of our five entrants (Recitation, Ballad Group and Novelty Act) were successful on the night and went forward to the county final at the same venue on Saturday March 1st. Despite a great performance from Siobhán Murphy in the solo singing category and our gallant quiz team neither made it through.

County Final
With three acts in the County Final hopes were high of finally getting "out of the county" with at least one of them. After three great performances and a long night the judges finally gave the nod to our quite brilliant Novelty Act. They then went forward to the Leinster Semi-final in Ballymore on Saturday March 8th where they again triumphed to qualify for the Leinster Final.
The Leinster Final was held on Sunday March 30th in Ballymore.

Leinster Final
In the Leinster final we bowed out to Dublin. The 2 months of fun came to an end but there will always be next year.

George Hatton (Westmeath Scór) back left Aidan Walsh (Leinster Scór) back right with the Ballycomoyle Novelty act team getting their County medals.

Ballycomoyle GFC team took part in the first round held in Rochfordbridge on November 3rd. Our Instrumental group and Ballad Group both got through to the county Semi-final.
On Saturday November 10th Ballycomoyle hosted a further qualifier where our team representing the Ladies took part. Our Set Dancers qualified to go forward to the County semi-final.
After the two semi-finals we were still in the hunt with our Ballad group but unfortunately this came to an end in the county final when they were defeated in a very close contest.

Win or lose each and every one of our competitors deserve great praise for the manner in which they embraced their roles and put in hours of preparation in St. Feichin's N.S. in the weeks before the competition. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gave great entertainment to us all.  Finally the club owes a big thank you to our culture and language officers of Doreen Farrelly and Catherine Daly and also to Grainne Healy who gave so generously of their time to prepare all our competitors.
