Scór Sinsear 2007

Ballycomoyle upped the ante considerably for this years senior Scór. From last years humble entry in three categories we have grown to five categories with two entries in three of them. This hasn't happened without a lot of hard work on the part of our Culture and language officers, Doreen Farrelly and Catherine Daly.  They, together with all the other participants, had been rehearsing in St. Feichin's National School Fore and the Parish centre in Castlepollard in the run up to the County semi-final.

On February 9th in The Downs clubhouse they gave 100% to the assembled crowd (which included a fair share of Bal' supporters) and reaped the rewards in two categories. The Ballad Group of Gráinne Healy, Doreen Farrelly, Micheál Fagan, Siobhán Murphy and Catherine Daly were chosen to go forward to the County Final in The Down's Clubhouse on Saturday February 24th. So too was our entrant in the recitation, Catherine Daly.

Unfortunately despite giving brilliant performances in both categories we were unsuccessful in the County final. We must wait another year for the glory which will inevitably come if we keep up the  work rate and commitment that was shown these last two years.

Great credit must go to all the participants who worked so hard and flew the Ballycomoyle flag proudly.

Catherine Daly who represented us in the Recitation made it through to the County final.

Scór na nÓg 2007
(Club and County Finals held at the end of 2006)

Ballycomoyle Club hosted one of the first rounds of Scór na nÓg in Collinstown Hall on Saturday November 4th. We had two teams entered as last year but had entrants in more categories than last year. The extra ones being Ballad Group and Figure dancing. Following on the success of last year's event Doreen Farrelly (Club Culture and Language Officer) worked hard with Catherine Daly to prepare our teams for the various competitions.

Our entrants were as follows.

Ceilidh Dancing; Sarah Fagan, Saoirse Farrelly, Kelly Coyle, Alice Murphy, Marie Egan, Jane Coyle, Bi-Bi O'Reilly and Katie Egan.

Solo Singing: Jane Coyle, Fergal Tiernan.

Instrumental Music; Cian Farrelly, Hillary Gaffney, Jack Coyle, Katie Egan, Sarah Fagan, Ciara Walsh, Marie Egan, Saoirse Farrelly.

Question Time; Karen Coyle, Cian Farrelly, John Coyle, Rebecca O Brien, Killian Daly, Peter Mc Kenna.

Recitation; Ciara Walsh, Karen Coyle

Ballad Group; Cliona Daly, Alice Murphy, Saoirse Farrelly, Sarah Fagan, Jane Coyle.

All of our entrants gave it all they had and provided wonderful entertainment for a packed Collinstown Hall. Our Ceilidh dancers and our instrumental couplet of Cian Farrelly & Hilary Gaffney were chosen by the judges to go forward to the County semi-final in The Downs Clubhouse on Saturday November 18th. We wish them the very best of luck on the night and encourage as many people as possible to travel to The Downs on the night to cheer them on.

 County Semi-Final.

At the semi-final in The Downs Clubhouse on Sat November 18th both our Instrumental group and our very young troupe of dancers represented themselves and the club well. Unfortunately the dancers didn't make the next round but our very talented musicians Cían Farrelly and Hilary Gaffney, deservedly got the aapproval of the judges and indeed the audience to go through to the County Final on Sunday Nov. 26th in Ballymore Community Centre. We would like to see a good smattering of local support in Ballymore at 3pm next Sunday.

County Final

Despite an accomplished performance our instrumental group failed to make it out of the county to the Leinster qualifiers. There is no doubt however that the Ballycomoyle Scór portfolio is growing and brings a whole different angle to the club in the Winter months when the football is in hibernation.
