2007 OFF TO A GOOD
START
Our very first committee meeting of 2007 was held in Fore N.S. on Monday night
8th January and we are very pleased to say that it was a constructive meeting. A
quick glance back on last year’s accounts was enough to tell us that we again
need major fundraising for the year ahead. It is quite staggering to see what it
costs to run a club these days and hopefully with everyone's help we will face
up to the challenge’s ahead. On of the major disappointments that the meeting
was made aware of, was the decision of Joey Williams to step down as
trainer/manager after a two year spell at the helm. We must thank Joey, most
sincerely, for those two years and we hope to see him lining out in "The Bal"
colours for many more years. We are holding a very important players meeting for
the junior team in "The Pollard Arms", on Thursday 25 January and we hope to
introduce a new trainer/manager at this meeting. It is very important that all
players are in attendance. Our ladies section of the club are not to be
forgotten and they will be holding their players meeting in the same venue,
sometime before the end of February. The ladies finished off their year with a
defeat in the semi-final of the championship, but now that Marius Reilly has
decided to help out and manage the ladies junior team, there is a definite note
of anticipation regarding this coming year.
LOTTO
On Friday night 22nd December we held our Special Christmas Lotto in "Comiskey's",
Castlepollard. We had a record number of books in on the night and we must thank
everyone for their support, not only for this draw, but also for all the support
throughout the year and we look forward to your continued support throughout
2007. The numbers drawn on the night were - Draw No.1--E 10,000 -19,21,26,27
and Draw No.2-- E 6,600-1,7,19 and 24. There was no jackpot winner on either
draws and the E 100 winners were, Brendan Fowler, Samantha Nolan, Derek Doyne,
Valerie Mc Dermott and Peter Loughlin. The other prize-winner's were as follows:
Christmas Hamper -
Jennifer Cooney, Turkey and Brandy - Breda Cullen, Ham and Whiskey - Tom Ward,
Roast and Gin - Seamus Mc Dermott, Christmas Cake - P.Maguire, Brandy and
Biscuits - Kit Lee, Brandy and Chocolates- Thomas Daniels, Whiskey and Biscuits-
Maura Meehan, Whiskey and Chocolates - John Smyth, Baileys and Biscuits -
Margaret Dermody, Baileys and Chocolates - John Lynch, Hardware Voucher - Marion
Browne, Lottery Tickets - Dolores Salmon, Biscuits - Maureen Masterson,
Chocolates - Derek Cheevers, Biscuits - Eve Brady, Chocolates and Lottery
Tickets - David Murphy, Wine - John Lynch, Chocolates - Claire and Marius.
Congratulations to all our winners. Our next draw will be held on Tuesday 30th
January in "The Town and Country", Castlepollard and again we will be holding
two draws, No. 1 - E 10,000 and No. 2 - E 6,800 and remember "if you're not in,
you can't win.
SYMPATHY
The entire club would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the family,
relatives and friends of Bernie Davis, Kiltoom and also Mrs. Margaret Eivers,
Glenidan. These two people were held in very high esteem in their respective
communities and the huge attendance at both funerals bore testament to this
fact. May they rest in peace.
RAISING EYEBROW'S
On Friday night last 12th January, a very special competition took place in "The
Seven Wonders Bar", Fore. It was indeed none other than a "hairy chest",
competition. This started out originally as a joke but finished up as a fun
competition and raised a tidy sum of money for the local school. After much
deliberation on the night, two men shared the spoils and the title and they
were, Michael H and Ted F. Well done to all who took part and we hope to see
them all again next month for the "waxing" of these hairy chest's, keep an eye
on these notes for more details.
CONGRATULATIONS
Heartiest congratulations must go to Dessie and Mags Carter on the birth of
their son Daragh Brendan. Mags and Des are held in very high esteem within the
club and we wish them all the best of luck for the future. Congratulations also
this week to Anne Lynch, Ballycomoyle who celebrated the 19th anniversary of her
21st on Friday night last 12th with a very much "surprise" party in Meehan's,
Coole, with her family and friends. Well done Anne, I will not tell anyone your
age.......We must not forget our Ass. Secretary who celebrates his birthday
today Thursday 18. I am told that he is not far of that dreaded 30 mark now.
SENIOR SCÓR
Preparations are now in full "swing" for Senior Scór 2007. We have entered two
teams this year and we are still recruiting people for various items. We must
congratulate everyone who are putting in such a huge effort and hopefully they
will reap the rewards of their efforts. A complete list of our entrants will
appear in these notes in the coming weeks.
SNIPPETS
Word has it that Noel s and Jimmy R were seen at bingo before
Christmas........check...!!!!!!.......Lizzy H was reported to have been ensuring
that neither herself or the pals would not get dehydrated at the party last
week.......Gerry F is reported to have been playing in the Westmeath/Dublin game
on Sunday last.......(halftime)...........See that our underage secretary is
half roasted after his week in the sun..........

IMPORTANT MEETING
On Thursday night of this week 25th January we are holding a very important
players meeting in "The Pollard Arms", Castlepollard at 8.30 pm. Every member of
both the Junior "A" panel and the Junior "B" panel are requested to attend. This
meeting has proved to be of huge benefit to us in the past and it seems that
this year should be no different. Some of the major topics that will be
discussed will be the setup for the year, training, selectors, fundraising, etc,
and we are pleased to inform everyone that our new trainer/manager will be
introduced at this meeting. Undoubtedley people will have some items that need
to be discussed and this meeting will be the place to do so. We look forward to
seeing everyone there on Thursday night and refreshments will be served
afterwards.
LOTTO
The first lotto draw for 2007 will take place in "The Town and Country",
Castlepollard on Tuesday night next 30th January. We are again holding two
draws, the first for E 10,000 and the second for E 6,800. We would again like to
thank everyone for their support throughout 2006 and we look forward to your
continued support in 2007. Remember "if you're not in you can't win". Tickets
are available from the usual outlets, but if you have a problem or query
regarding our lotto please contact Club Secretary at 087-9268049.
SCÓR
As stated last week, our senior scór competitors are in "full swing" and also in
"full voice". I am reliably informed that preparations are going very well at
the moment and the entire club would like to wish all our participants the very
best of luck in The Downs, on Friday 9th February. We would hope that we will
have lots of support on the night, for what always is, a very enjoyable nights
entertainment. A full list will appear next week of our participants

SUCCESSFUL PLAYERS
MEETING
On Thursday night of last week 25th January we held a very well attended players
meeting in "The Pollard Arms", Castlepollard. Our new trainer/manager for 2007
was introduced to the meeting and he is Mr. Pat Shryane, who lives locally in
"The Strand", Ben of Fore. Pat is definitely no stranger to junior football as
he has trained Delvin for the past few years and we in Ballycomoyle are
delighted to have secured his services for the coming year. Pat outlined his
plans and hopes for 2007 and if he is given the commitment that he request's,
there is no reason why we should not be lifting the silverware next October.
Numerous issues were discussed on the night and towards the end of the meeting
it was decided that we would have a light run around on Friday night next 2nd
February. Everyone is requested to be in the park at 7.45 pm and on the field at
8pm sharp. Training will begin in earnest sometime before the end of February,
so come along on Friday night to brush of the cobwebs. Nominations for selectors
and for captain are being taken by Maurice Gavigan and these will be then
decided upon at a later date. Finally we would like to welcome Pat Shryane into
our club and we wish him the best of luck for the year ahead.
SCÓR
Senior Scór seems to be one of the main topics in most clubs at the moment and
we here in Ballycomoyle are no different. Preparations are now at an advanced
stage and we hope that on Friday night 9th February, in The Downs, our
hardworking teams will be rewarded with a place in the county finals on February
24. The following is a list of our competitors: Ballycomoyle Ladies- Ballad
Group: Clodagh O'Neill, Breege Dobson, Sinead Sullivan, Elaine Caffrey and
Cariosa O'Neill. Solo Singing: Cariosa O'Neill. Question Time: Libby Hannon,
Tracey Weldon and Sinead Kilmurray. Ballycomoyle GFC- Ballad Group: Grainne Mc
Manus, Micheál Fagan, Catherine Daly, Siobhan Murphy and Doreen Farrelly. Solo
Singing: Siobhan Murphy. Recitation: Catherine Daly. Set Dance: John and Grainne
Mc Manus, Michael and Kathleen Caffrey, Doreen Farrelly, Micheál Fagan, Joe
Masterson and Catherine Daly. Question Time: Ciarán Ring, Jimmy Weldon and Ray
Farrelly. As anyone can see this has been a huge undertaking for us this year
and as stated already there has been a lot of hard work done in the past few
weeks. With the interest that has been shown in Scór this year, we will strive
to get even more people involved next year and who knows we might even enter a
novelty act (we have lots of characters and actors in our club....!!!!!!). All
that is left to be said at this stage is that the entire club would like to wish
all our competitors the very best of luck on the night and we hope that we will
have huge support there also.
SNIPPETS

huge support there and if there is enough interest we may even organise
transport at a small fee. Scór has proved to be a very entertaining night in the

be disappointed. See you all there........

SCÓR SINSEAR
On Friday night last 9th February we travelled in force to The Downs GAA Centre,
where we took part in Scór Sinsear 2007. We were represented by two teams in a
number of different items and at the end of the night our Ballad Group and our
Recitation acts, which represented Ballycomoyle GFC, were deemed worthy to go
through to the county finals on February 24th. Both our solo singers, Siobhan
Murphy and Cariosa O’Neill, despite putting in a splendid performance were
overlooked on this occasion. Our question time teams performed well and very
little separated them at the end, but they did not manage to register enough
points to see them through to the finals. Catherine Daly performed to her usual
high standard in the recitation and in doing so, secured her place in the final.
Our set dancers performed admirably and great credit is due to them for the
amount of work that they put in before this competition. One of the most keenly
contested competitions in scór is the ballad groups and indeed this was the case
on Friday night last. Our ballad group, representing Ballycomoyle GFC, put in an
impressive performance to secure their spot and our ballad group representing
Ballycomoyle Ladies, who put in an equally impressive and polished performance,
did not get the nod of approval on the night. This was very disappointing for
the ladies and the general consensus from the wider audience, was that both of
the ballad groups should have gone through. However this was not to be on the
night. We would like to thank everyone for taking part on the night and proudly
representing our humble club, we would like to thank everyone for the huge
effort that was put in leading up to this night and we hope that we will have
everybody back again next year. Finally we would like to thank the huge number
of people that came to support us on the night and we hope that we will see them
all again on the 24th for the finals which also takes place in the Downs. Last
but not least, we would like to wish both our acts, the very best of luck in the
finals.
TABLE QUIZ
Our Ladies section of the club are holding a Table Quiz in "Meehan’s Coole", on
Friday night 2nd March commencing at 8.30 sharp. One of the big attractions on
the night will have to be the very "witty" quizmaster, Mr. Ned Flynn. Ned has a
great way of ensuring that everyone present will have a memorable night out. The
fee on the night will be E 20 for a team of 4 and we are hopeful of having good
support. We hope that all of the local clubs and public houses will at least
enter one team, for more information regarding this night please contact either
Ladies Chairperson- Dermot Mc Kenna or Ladies Secretary- Libby Hannon.
TRAINING
Training for the men's junior team is due to start in earnest this Friday night
at 8 pm in the park. It is very important that as many players as possible come
to this training as we will be appointing our selectors and our captains for the
year ahead. The first of the league games are due to start on Sunday 4th March
and with the division being so competitive this year, it is important to get a
good start.
SNIPPETS

SCÓR SINSEAR
For the second time this month we hit the Scór trail again and it is back to The
Downs GAA Centre on Saturday night next 24th February where we take part in the
Scór County Finals. This year we will be represented in two sections, firstly,
we will be represented by the highly talented, Catherine Daly in the recitation
and I am reliably informed that we are in for quite a treat with this
recitation. Secondly, we will be represented by Siohan Murphy, Micháel Fagan,
Grainne Mc Manus, Doreen Farrelly and Catherine Daly in the very competitive
Ballad Group section. We wish all our participants the very best of luck on the
night and we hope that they will be rewarded for the huge effort that they have
put in for the past number of weeks. We would urge everyone again to support us
on the night and since it is the finals, we can be very sure that it will be a
most enjoyable night. The Finals start at 8pm sharp and we would advise anyone
that is intending to travel, to ensure to go early to get a good seat. Full
report next week.
LOTTO
Our most recent club lotto was held in "Meehans", Coole on Tuesday night 13th
February and there was no winner of either of our jackpots. Results are as
follows: Draw No. 1- E10,000 -4,7,17,24. Draw No. 2- E 7,000- 3,16,20,23. The E
30 winners were Micheal Fagan, Peter Daly, Damien Farrell, Esther Langjahr and
M.Murphy. Our next draw will be on Tuesday night next in "The Seven Wonders",
Fore and again we will have two draws the first for E 10,000 and the second for
E 7,200. We would like to thank you for your continued support and remember “if
you're not in, you can't win.
SYMPATHY
The club would like to convey its deepest sympathies to the family, relatives
and friends of the late Margaret Collins, Tuitestown. May she rest in peace.
JUNIOR TEAM
The selectors and captains were announced prior to training on Friday night last
and the selector's for 2007 are Johnny Corrigan and Seamus Fay. We wish Seamus
and Johnny the best of luck for their year ahead and indeed it seems as it will
possibly be a very difficult year for us with quite a number of lad's missing
from last year's panel. The captain of the Junior "A" team is Ronan Fagan and
Roaney fully deserves this role for the year ahead. Roaney has shown great
determination and spirit down through the years and is very well respected by
his fellow player's. Our vice captain and captain of our Junior "B" team is
Maurice Gavigan and again like Roaney is a very dedicated and well respected
person among all the players. We wish both the best of luck throughout 2007. Our
Junior League kicks of in Ballycomoyle on Sunday 4th March, where we take on our
old rivals Finea. This will be a very tough encounter for us as we will be short
at least half of our squad due to various other commitments, however this match
will be an entertaining affair with valuable league points at stake. More
details next week.
SNIPPETS

day.......speaking of Valentine's........word has it that Ringo had a special
candlelit Valentine's dinner, courtesy of the HSE in Mullingar Hospital on

SCÓR SINSEAR
Our interest in Scór 2007 came to an end on Saturday night last in The Downs GAA
Centre, where we failed to secure the laurels of victory in either the
recitation or the ballad group section. It must however, be said that both our
acts were absolutely brilliant on the night and they deserve mammoth praise for
their efforts. Firstly, Catherine Daly represented us in the recitation and as I
said last week, we were in for a treat and Catherine did not disappoint. She did
not go down the traditional route of choosing a recitation that has been
repeated year in year out, Catherine decided to "pen" her very own script and it
was most enjoyable and very well received by the very sizeable audience.
Unfortunately she did not get the nod from the adjudicators, but we feel that it
must have been a very close call. Hard luck Catherine and hopefully we will have
you back again next year and go the whole way. Next on the agenda for us was
the very competitive Ballad Group Section. We were represented by Siobhan
Murphy, Grainne Mc Manus, Mícháel Fagan, Doreen Farrelly and Catherine Daly. The
group gave a very polished and faultless rendition of "Grá mo Chroí" and "The
Sky Road" and again it must have been a very close call for first place. We must
thank our ballad group for putting in such a huge effort for the past number of
weeks and again we hope that they will all be back again next year. Finally
before we leave the Scór section for another season, we must congratulate and
thank everyone who represented our humble club in both Junior and Senior Scór
and did so in such a proud fashion. Ballycomoyle has firmly put its name on the
Scór register and it is only a matter of time before we secure some County
titles.
TABLE QUIZ
Friday night next 2nd March, our ladies section of the Club are holding a table
quiz in "Meehans", Coole and it is due to start at 8.30 pm sharp. Admission is E
20 for a team of 4 and we are expecting a huge crowd to support us on the night.
The very "witty" Ned Flynn is the quiz master and a great night is in store. A
number of local clubs and public houses have already entered and the competition
will be hot. The advice for the night is to come early and avoid the rush and
enjoy the proceedings.
UNDERAGE
There is already a lot of interest in when the training is starting for the
underage section of the club. At the moment it seems that we will probably be
resuming on Friday evening 30th March. If anyone has any questions or queries
regarding the underage section please contact Dermot (044-9661805) or Helen
(087-2207374).
JUNIOR TEAM
Our first game of the year is scheduled for Sunday next 4th March in
Ballycomoyle vs. Finea. As stated in last weeks notes this will be an
entertaining fixture and throw in is at 11.30. All players are asked to be at
the park no later than 10.50 am, we do hope that the weather will improve
somewhat in the next days as the pitch is definitely unplayable at time of going
to press. We would like to wish all the boys the best of luck on Sunday next.
TRIVIA
Did you know........Paddy Smyth (Buggy) was the first man to score a point for
Ballycomoyle. It was a game against Multy played in Robinstown (beside present
pitch) and the game was played circa 1956. If this information is incorrect
please contact me at any stage. More "Trivia" in next few weeks.......
SNIPPETS
Word has it that Greg C is making a return to training after demonstrating his
flexibility last week in a local establishment.........word has it that Ita H
finally got a big enough handbag for the weeding last week........Noel S is said

Our ladies section of the club are holding a very important junior players
meeting in "Mc Cormacks" on Friday night 16th March at 8.30 pm sharp. It is
imperative that all players attend as some serious items will be discussed on
the night. Our junior ladies have been steadily improving in the recent past
and I have no doubt, that with the right attitude this year, they can achieve
the silverware.
MENS JUNIOR TEAM
We were due to play Finea on Sunday morning last in Ballycomoyle but due to the
inclement weather conditions we were forced to postpone this match. This game
has been re-scheduled for next Saturday evening in Ballycomoyle at 4 pm. All

would like to take this opportunity to welcome Paul Mc Crossan onto our

ahead.

We were due to play Finea on Saturday last in Ballycomoyle but due to the

decision was taken by the grounds committee and at this stage seems to have been
very correct. This game has been re-scheduled for next Saturday morning in
Ballycomoyle at 12 noon, St. Patrick’s Day. All players and relevant personnel
should be at the pitch no later than 11.30am and we hope that the weather will
not affect this eagerly awaited encounter. We would like to take this

WORD OF APPRECIATION
Delayed as it may be, the Club would most sincerely like to thank everyone who
played their part in producing the Ballycomoyle 2007 Wall Calendar. This was
greatly appreciated by all who received one and if anyone still wants a calendar
please contact Helen, there is still some in stock. Dermot has asked me to thank
everyone who donated blood some weeks ago, this is a very important service and
we must also thank Dermot and Ned and all involved behind the scenes for
ensuring that everything runs so smoothly.
ST. PATRICK'S DAY
St. Patrick’s Day would not be the same without the usual parade and we are very
fortunate here in this part of the county to have a dedicated and hard working
committee behind the North Westmeath St.Patricks Day Parade. The Parade starts
at 5 pm and promises to be even bigger and better than ever. Our underage
section of the club are taking part in this parade and anyone interested in
taking part should meet at the national school at 4.45 pm approx. Our U.12 girls
will be proudly displaying The Sean Coyle Memorial Cup which they won in such
formidable fashion last year. The parade is not just for the underage as we are
encouraging parents, teenagers, junior players (ladies and men’s) and anyone who
feels that they would like to represent our proud club. For further details
please contact Dermot, Helen, Doreen or Gerry.

SEASON KICKS OFF
Our Junior footballers kicked off their season on St. Patrick’s Day with a home
game vs. C/F/C/W. This was an eagerly awaited fixture but with our team short a
total of ten players that played in the quarter-final of last year’s
championship, we knew that it would be an uphill battle throughout this game.
Despite being short so many players, the lads that took to the field, put in a
spirited performance and unfortunately came out on the wrong side of a 2.09 to
0.03 scoreline. Best for Ballycomoyle on the day were Alan Smith, Tossy Brady,
Roaney Fagan, Billy Ryan and Michael McCormack. On this performance we have a
serious amount of work to do before the championship begins. We are told that a
number of our key players shall be returning in the not to distant future and we
look forward to this. We must welcome Terry Smith back into the Balle jersey
after a layoff for a few years and Terry featured well in the game last
Saturday. Our next fixture in the Div. 3 League is scheduled for next Saturday
evening at 4.30 in Loughnavalley and we are asking everyone involved to please
be in Loughnavalley no later than 3.50 pm. Team that was defeated by C/F/C/W: N.

LADIES SECTION
Our ladies held a players meeting in Mc Cormacks, Castlepollard on Friday night
last and it was quite well attended. A number of key issues were discussed and
there is a definite mood of eagerness for the coming season. Indoor training is
commencing on Friday night next and the venue has yet to be announced, Marius
will be contacting everyone with regard to this. The first game will be in three
weeks time and Marius is hopeful that we will be well prepared for this fixture.
We are presently recruiting players for all sections of our ladies and if
anybody is interested, they can contact either Marius Reilly, Helen Coyle or
Libby Hannon, all are welcome.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY
PARADE
We must thank everyone who braved the elements on St.Patricks Evening and
represented Ballycomoyle Football Club in The North-Westmeath Parade. Without
any shadow of a doubt we had the biggest contingent of personnel and we must
congratulate all the younger folk for being so mannerly and well behaved.
Finally we must thank the hard working committee behind the parade and without
whom, there would be no parade in this area, well done and we look forward to
next year.
GROUNDS COMMITTEE
The grounds committee would like to thank Noel Smith for mowing the pitch prior
to the match on Saturday last, the pitch and the grounds looked very well and
was very well appointed. We must also thank jimmy Fagan for all the effort that
he puts in, keeping everything so good and tidy.
SYMPATHY
The entire Football Club would like to express its deepest sympathies to the
family, relatives and friends of the late Mary Ward, Corbally. The huge numbers
that attended both the removal and the funeral bore testament to the high esteem
in which Mary and her family are held. May she rest in peace.
ANNUAL SOCIAL NIGHT
Yes folks, it is that time of the year again and on Easter Saturday Night 7th
April we are holding our Annual Social Night in "The Lough Lene Inn",
Collinstown. Tickets are now on sale and almost every member of the Club has
some to sell, these tickets are a mere E 5 and we would welcome your support for
the night. Music on the night will be provided by the talented Adrian Connolly
and we might just get a bar of a song from our two brilliant Ballad Groups that
took part in Scór Sinsear recently. Our very own "Podge and Rodge"- Seamus Fay
and Noel Smith might even give us another mighty rendition of “The Breakfast
Roll". The night promises to be good fun, so why not come along and join in.

BARDON EARNS DRAW
Stephen Bardon, making his Junior team debut, calmly slotted a point with the
last kick of the game to earn a draw for our Junior team in Lougnavalley on
Saturday evening last. Stephen was joined in his debut by Paul Dermody and Neil
Salmon and it must be noted that all three player's indeed proved their worth
and laid down a marker for anyone who wishes to take their place from them. The
game itself was a very close encounter throughout and the draw was without doubt
the fairest result. Both teams are building for the championship and the return
game in the championship will be worth seeing. It would be very unfair to single
anyone out for a word of praise as all our lad's put in a huge effort, right to
the finish. Our manager and selector's were quite happy with the display on the
evening and now we are looking towards our fixture this weekend which takes
place in Rosemount this Saturday evening at 6 pm. Everyone involved is requested
to be at the venue no later than 5.20pm. Team that drew with Louhgnavalley: N.
McKenna, B.Halpin, M.Gavigan, D.Fagan, G.Farrelly, M.Mc.Cormack(0.01), A.Smith,
T.Brady, R.Fagan(capt)(0.02), K.Gavigan(0.01), B.Ryan, P.Dermody, I.Coyle,
J.Rhynne(0.01), S.Bardon(0.03). Subs: T.Smith for G.Farrelly(inj.), S.Mc.Eoin
for T.Smith, N.Salmon for J.Rhynne, S. Farrelly for I.Coyle, P.Smyth, R.Farrelly,
C.Ring, C.McCormack, R.Halpin, N.Morgan. Training continues each Tuesday and
Friday night at 8pm, all are welcome.
UNDERAGE RESUMES
Training for our underage section finally resumes on Friday evening next 30
March at 7 pm sharp. There has been a lot of enquires regarding this training
and we are expecting a large number to show up on Friday evening. Unfortunately
our training clashes this Friday evening with "Feile na nÓg" in Castlepollard
Community College but I am sure that all will work out on the evening. It must
be acknowledged that our underage section has been going very well for the past
few years and we must thank everyone involved for giving so much of their spare
time, to ensure the smooth running of this section. We will have a more detailed
report from our underage section in next week’s notes.

LOTTO WINNER
After weeks and months of sheer suspense, we are delighted to say that we had
one lotto winner at our last draw which was held in "The Abbey House", Fore on
Tuesday night of last week, March 27th. As usual we had two draws and the
results are as follows: Draw No.1- E10,000, 3, 7, 8 and 25, there was no winner.
Draw No. 2- E 7,600 - 1, 2, 7 and 15 and there was one winner, Michael Buckley,
Glenidan, Collinstown. Michael has been a loyal supporter of the lotto for quite
a few years now and I have no doubt that Michael will continue for many more
years. The seller of the ticket was Seamus Leahy and indeed Seamus has been a
loyal servant to the lotto since it was started all those years ago. Thank you
Seamus. Our next draw will be held in "Farrellys Bar", Castlepollard on Tuesday
night next 10th April and the jackpot will be E 10,000. We look forward to your
continued support and remember, "if you're not in you can't win".
JUNIOR FOOTBALL
Our junior footballers suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a very skilful
and fit Rosemount side on Saturday evening last in Rosemount. Whilst our
opponents may still be clapping themselves on the back, it must be pointed out
that in fairness, our team on the day was merely our second team. We would be
hoping that we will be back up to full strength by the time we meet them in the
Championship and I firmly believe that the margin will be quite tight in
this game. Team: N. McKenna, D. Fagan, B. Halpin, G. Farrelly, A. Smith, M.
McCormack, P. Dermody, R. Fagan, T. Brady, I. Coyle, D. Cheevers, B. Ryan, R.
Farrelly, J. Rhynne, S. Farrelly. Subs: K. Weldon for R. Farrelly, N. Salmon for
I. Coyle, E. Kiernan for A. Smith, C. McCormack for T. Brady, M. Halpin for
S.Farrelly, N. Morgan, D. O’Rourke, A. Hannon. This game was played in a very
sporting manner but it was marred by some very unsporting jeering from the
Rosemount dugout...!!
ANNUAL SOCIAL NIGHT
Yes folks, it is that time of the year again and on Easter Saturday Night 7th
April we are holding our Annual Social Night in "The Lough Lene Inn",

NEWSLETTER
Pride of place must go to everyone that was involved with the production of our
very first newsletter. This newsletter was distributed throughout the area in
the past number of days and if you haven’t received one, please contact Doreen
or Helen.
CONGRATULATIONS
The Club would like to congratulate our chairman, Seamus McDermott, on winning
the first prize of E 20,000 in the Westmeath Supporters draw which was held on
Thursday night last. Well done Seamus
UNDER 12 BOYS
We had our first outing for our under 12 boys this year when we played host to
Milltownpass in Ballycomoyle last Wednesday evening, March 28th. Having lost no
less than 10 players from last years panel it was great to see 21 players togged
out and with a couple more who had let us know that they could not be there on
the night, it looks like we will have a very healthy panel for the year ahead.
This was not a very good evening for football but we started quite well and
midway through the first half we were level with 2 points each both scored by
our left half back Peter Mc Kenna. However, from there on Milltownpass moved up
a gear and led 1.04 to 2 points at half time. Even though we got the first score
in the second half our revival was short-lived and a very quick and skilful
Milltownpass team scored 2 quick goals to run out worthy winners. This was our
first game and a lot of players were tried in different positions and as we go
on we are sure we will get the balance right.
Team on the day: Ruben Byrne, Aoife Gallagher, Kevin O’Brien,
Nathan Clarke, Owen Connell, Niall McCormack(fore), Adrian Leahy, Alan
Jennings, Niall McCormack (Collinstown) Matthew Gilsenan, Shane Cunningham.
Connor Reilly, Alice Murphy, (Captain) Kevin Shields, Peter McKenna, Killian
Daly, Jack Coyle, Jack Keating, Ciaran Fagan, Andrew Leahy, Connor McLaverty.
UNDERAGE TRAINING
We kicked off our under 8's 10's and 12's boys and girls on Friday last in
Ballycomoyle and to put it mildly it was a great success. So much so that there
were a large number of new parents and players that with all the excitement we
did not get a chance to properly chat to all concerned. Hopefully we can put
that right over the next couple of weeks. Going forward we will be in
Ballycomoyle every Friday night from 7 until 8 and if you miss the first night,
don't worry, come along the next night and bring a friend, all are very welcome
and as always, if you can give a hand especially with the little ones this would
be gratefully appreciated.
BAL' BUS
Please don't forget, for the next few weeks we are running a bus to training on
a trial basis. The bus will leave Collinstown at 6.30, for at 6.40, and outside
the Hotel in Castlepollard at 6.50. For the return journey we will leave
Ballycomoyle at 8.15, to arrive back in Collinstown for roughly 8.30. at just
€2.00 a head this has to be the best offer around and hopefully enough people
will come on board to make this worthwhile project viable. on Friday night the
two proudest men in Ballycomoyle were Marcus and Aaron Kennedy who were picked
up for training and dropped back in Collinstown on their own private bus but as
the advertisement on television says "they're worth it".

SOCIAL NIGHT
On Saturday night last 7th April, Easter Saturday Night, we held a very
enjoyable and well attended social night in "The Lough Lene Inn", Collinstown.
Music on the night was provided by the very talented, Adrian Connolly, Adrian
banged out the hit's all night and we look forward to hearing him again soon. We
must most sincerely thank Kathryn Cooney and her staff for hosting our night and
Kathryn ensured that nobody suffered from de-hydration....!!!!!!!! We also must
thank our raffle ticket sellers and anyone else who helped out in any way. We
would like to remind people that it is very important that we get the ticket
money returned as soon as possible to Doreen Farrelly, Anne Dermody or any
committee member.
LADIES
Our ladies kick off their season on Saturday evening next 14th April, in
Loughnavalley where they take on the home side in the first round of the
Championship at 6.30pm. Marius has informed me that there will be a bus leaving
Castlepollard at 5 pm and for more information please contact Marius. Training
has been going quite well for our ladies section and we wish them the best of
luck in their quest for Championship Honours in 2007. A light session has been
planned for Friday evening in Ballycomoyle at 8 pm and everyone involved with
the junior team is requested to attend.
UNDERAGE
Our underage training is now in full swing on Friday evenings and begins at 7 pm
every Friday night. Numbers have increased significantly this year and we are
always looking for newcomers. For more information please contact Dermot or
Helen or log onto our brilliant web-site. Some of our underage teams have had
games this week so reports from these games will appear next week.
JUNIORS
On Saturday evening next 14th April, we are hosting Tang in our fourth match in
Div.3. We are delighted to report that little by little we are getting our team
back up to full strength, it was encouraging to see some of our prominent
players back at training on Friday evening last and if these lads are available
for selection we could have an interesting game in store. The latest bit of good
news that we have heard, is that our No. 1 man, who retired last year may just
be enticed to "don" the 'bal jersey for the rest of this season. We are hopeful
of good support for this home match on Saturday evening.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations are extended this week to Paul and Miriam Dolan, Sallymount on
the birth of their baby daughter Orla. Orla is baby sister to Aoibheann, Laoise

BUSY WEEKEND REAPS
FEW REWARDS
LADIES JUNIOR TEAM
Our junior ladies team had their first outing of the year on Saturday evening
last in Louhgnavalley in the first round of the Ladies Junior Championship.
Unfortunately we were defeated on a scoreline of 2.06 to 1.04, but we can be
very proud of our ladies and the effort that they put in for this game. Some
decisions did not go our way on the evening and we can only accept these and
look forward to our next outing in this championship which is scheduled for mid
June, this is a home game vs. St. Paul's. Our next ladies game is on Sunday 29th
April in Ballycomoyle at 12 noon vs. Athlone in the Ladies Junior Shield
13-a-side, we are looking forward to this encounter. Team that was defeated by
Louhgnavalley: Sinead Gallagher, Louise Gallagher, Libby Hannon, Clodagh
O’Neill, Tracey Weldon, Sinead Kilmurray, Rachel Coyne, Orla Doolin, Joanne
Walsh, Aisling Farrelly, Ruth Daniels, Eimear Cullen, Sabrina Dermody, Alma
Hayden, Cariosa O’Neill; Subs: Keri Flynn for R. Coyne, Martina Murphy for R.
Daniels, Karen Coyle for E.Cullen, Deidre Macken for L.Gallagher, Jenny Cooney,
Jenny O'Rourke, Ciara Clogher, Karen Mc Hale and Shauna Boyne. All junior ladies
are requested to attend training in the park at 8pm sharp on Friday evening
next.
MENS JUNIOR TEAM
On Saturday evening last we had a home game vs. Tang in the fourth round of the
Div. 3 league. Quite often we hear the phrase "a game of two halves" and for
some strange reason our lads could not seem to get motivated for the second
half. This game was played at championship pace in the first half and the sides
were very evenly matched. Ballycomoyle probably played some of the best football
in recent years and we went in at halftime with a 1.05 to 0.05 lead. However
Tang took control in the second half and ran out convincing winners by 2.12 to
1.05. We were disappointed with our second half performance but we can take a
lot of positives from the wonderful display in the first half, as the result
clearly shows we have still a lot of work to do on our fitness levels and we
will be working on this in the coming weeks. Training has now been switched to
our traditional slot of Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8pm sharp and everyone
involved with both junior teams are expected to attend. Team: N.McKeanna,
P.Dermody, M.Gavigan, A.Smith, M.McCormack, T.Brady, G.Farrelly, R.Fagan (0.01)
B.Ryan(0.01) N.Salmon, S.Mc Eoin(0.01), J.Williams, S.Bardon(0.01),
K.Weldon(1.00), K.Gavigan90.01f), Subs: S.Farelly for S.McEoin, S.Óg Doyne for
A. Smith, J.Corrigan for P.Dermody, I.Coyle for N.Salmon(inj), D.O'Rourke.
Footnote: We would like to wish Neill Salmon a speedy recovery following his
injury on Saturday evening and we would like to thank David O'Rourke for
treating Neill and directing proceedings. Our Club purchased a stretcher last
year and it was put to use with Neill and we would advise every club who may not
yet have a stretcher, to please look into getting one. Our Junior "B" team is
due to play C/F/C/W in Castletown this Thursday evening 19th April at 7pm,
please be at venue no later than 6.30pm.
Ladies Football
Under 12 Girls
Our under 12 girls kicked off the season last Tuesday evening when they
travelled to Milltown. It was always going to be hard to follow last year’s
performance of this team. This was a very spirited performance from a team that
saw many new comers to the team. At half time we led by 0-6 to no score with
everyone giving it everything. However, it was not to be our day as Milltown
started off the half with two quick goals and on at least two occasions one
wonders how the ball just did not go over the line of the Milltown goals. A
further two goals and two points for Milltown saw them enjoying success at the
end of the day.
Team: Sarah Fagan, Ciara Walsh, Maria Henry, Alex Farrelly, Emma Goodwin, Alice
Murphy, Shannon Farrelly, Ruth Mulligan, Anne-Marie Kennedy, Caoimhe McCrossan,
Aoife Gallagher, Alanna Clogher, Kelly Coyle, Aoife Fitzsimons, Saoirse
Farrelly, Lorna Hilliard, Amy McNicholas
Our next game for the under 12 is in St. Lomans on Tuesday 24th @ 6.45pm. Bus
leaving Castlepollard at 5.40pm Fore at 5.45, Collinstown at 5.55pm.
Under 14 Girls
Our under 14 team play their first game of the season on Thursday next in
Ballycomoyle at 6.45pm. All players are requested to be at the pitch at 6.15pm
SCHOOLS GIRLS
St.Feichins N.S. Fore are playing in the semi-final of the girl’s competition
for small schools in The Downs, today Wednesday 18th at 3pm. We would like to
wish them the best of luck and all support would be greatly appreciated.
CONGRATULATIONS

their son Ryan. We have no doubt but Ryan will be wearing the 'Bal jersey in a
few years time.

A.C.F.L. DIV. 8
On Saturday evening last, 21st April, we got off to a winning start in Div.8,
with a well earned victory over our near neighbours C/F/C/W. The final score
was Ballycomoyle 1.10, C/F/C/W 1.04 and it must be pointed out that the
scoreline probably does not justify how close the game actually was. Both teams
had a fair mixture of youth in their ranks and we were very well served by
Steven Bardon, Sean Óg Doyne and Keith Weldon up in the frontline and equally by
Damien Fagan, Gary Farrelly and Michael Mc Cormack in defence. We are certainly
looking forward to our next game in this series. Team that defeated C/F/C/W:
N.Mc.keanna,A.Smith,M.Gavigan(capt.),D.Fagan,M.Mc.Cormack,T.Brady,G.Farrelly,B.Ryan(1.00),R.Fagan,K.Weldon(0.01),S.Óg
Doyne, K.Gavigan(0.02f), J.Rhynne(0.01), S.Farrelly(0.02), S.Bardon(0.04). Subs:
C.Mc.Cormack for J.Rhynne, P.Smyth for A.Smith, I.Coyle for K.Gavigan, D.Nolan
for S.Farrelly, S.Fitzpatrick. We would like to remind everybody, that training
continues every Tuesday and Thursday night in Ballycomoyle at 8 pm sharp for
both our panels. Our first game in the Junior Championship will probably take
place on the weekend of the 12/13th May and we still have a lot of preparation
to do.
BITS "n"BOBS
Just a final reminder to people to please return money for social night tickets
as soon as possible, to either Anne Dermody, Doreen Farrelly or any committee
member......Underage training is proceeding very well at present and the bus
service has been a huge success so far. For more information regarding underage,

2.03. We hope to have match reports in from all games next week. Libby Hannon's
U.14 charges must also be congratulated on defeating Loughnavalley on Thursday

LOTTO
Our most recent Club Lotto was held in "Doynes", Glenidan on Tuesday night last,
April 24th. We held two draws on the night and the results are as follows:- Draw
No.1- E 10,000 --15,17,19,25 and Draw No.2-- E1,000-- 8,13,17,23 and we had one
winner for this jackpot, Mr. Paddy Hannon. We would like to congratulate Paddy
on his win and indeed Paddy has been a frequent supporter of our lotto for many
years. Our next draw will be held in "Mc Cormacks", Castlepollard on Tuesday
night next 8th May and we will have one draw for E10,000, we look forward to
your continued support and remember that "if you're not in, you can't win".
JUNIOR MENS
Our Junior men’s team travel to Streamstown on Sunday next where at 3pm they
take on the home side, St.Josephs in the 5th round of the Div. 3 football
league. Results have been poor up to this stage but we are hopeful that if we
have a good turnout on Sunday that we can acquire 2 valuable league points.
Everyone is requested to be at the venue no later than 2.20 pm. It appears that
we may be playing our first round championship game vs Delvin next weekend and
we will be letting everyone know in due course.
DE-FIBULATOR
Pride of place must go to all the people that were involved with the
fundraising, the training, the purchase and the erection of a De-Fibulator in
Fore Village last week. After days, weeks and months of speculation, the day
finally came when the community have at last got a very valuable piece of
possible life-saving equipment. There is still places available for anyone who
wishes to take part in a training night for the correct use of the de-fibulator
and for further information please contact Seamus Mc Dermott. It is envisaged
that in the near future, ourselves here in Ballycomoyle Football Club, will
purchase a de-fibulator also.

On Wednesday evening we travelled to St. Lomans for our league encounter. Due
to injury we were without the services of Alice Murphy and Caoimhe McCrossan,

their very best with many outstanding performances. The game ending in a draw.

A.C.L.F. DIV 3
On Friday evening last May 4th, our Junior footballer's played host to St.
Joseph's at a very well appointed Castlepollard Hurling Pitch. The game started
at a cracking pace and indeed there was very little change in this, right up
until the final whistle, with the lead changing on several occasions. Both teams
were short some key players in central positions but this did not deter the
quality football that was played throughout. At the final whistle we were
unfortunate to come out on the wrong side of a 1.14 to 1.10 scoreline but we can
take a lot of solace from the fact that we are now starting to play better
football and with some more hard work in the coming weeks, we should be in top
flight for the Championship. Our first round game in this year's championship
will be played in Springfield on Saturday evening, May 26th and our opponents

LOTTO
Annual Lotto tickets are still on sale and are available by contacting Ray
Farrelly on the club phone @ 087-9268049 or by contacting any committee member.
The cost per annum is a mere E 50 for 25 draws and remember "if you're not in,
you can't win". We are hoping that some of the parents of our underage section,
some of our junior player's both ladies and men's and anyone that might like to
support us will join up to the yearly lotto scheme. Our Jackpot still stands at
E10,000 and is a very lucrative offer. We would again like to congratulate our
recent winners- Michael Buckley E 7,600 and Paddy Hannon E 1,000.
UNDERAGE
We yet again had a very busy week in our underage section of the club and due to
some technical problems, we have no reports on these matches, however we shall
make up for this next week (promise). One major event that took place on
Saturday evening last, was a challenge game for our U 6 squad vs near neighbours
Oldcastle. This game was a highlight of the year so far for myself and Karen
Coyle must get great praise for organising this hugely important game. We will
have a full report and team list next week, (watch this space). Our U.12 girls
play St. Paul’s in Ballycomoyle this Thursday night May 10th and everyone
concerned is requested to be in the pitch no later than 6.30pm. Our U.14 girls
squad are away to Shandonagh on Tuesday evening next May 15th and a bus will be
leaving Castlepollard at 5.50 pm sharp. For more info please contact Helen.

UNDERAGE NEWS
UNDER 10's
Our first match in the North Westmeath Under 10 Tournament was played in
Ballycomoyle on 1st May against C/F/C/W. This was a very entertaining game with
some excellent scores from both sides. On this occasion C/F/C/W came out winners
by the narrowest of margins and we look forward to meeting them later on in the
tournament when hopefully we can reverse the result.
Panel on the evening

UNDER 12's
Our third game in this years under 12 league was at home to St. Lomans. Having
lost our first two games we were hoping for a change in fortune on this
occasion. From the throw in, this was a very close game with both teams playing
very good football. Good scores from Shane Cunningham and Killian Daly sent us
in all square at half time and although St Lomans pulled away in the second
half, we fought back to level terms as we entered the final minutes. Just as the
referee was to blow the final whistle a long ball from St. Lomans, somehow ended
up in the back of the net and we were denied a draw that our team performance
undoubtedly deserved. Despite the defeat this was without doubt our best
performance of the year, with excellent performances from Conor Mc Laverty, Jack
Keating, Niall McCormack, Collinstown and Adrian (Cheesey) Leahy.
Blood Transfusion:
A very important reminder to all club members that the blood transfusion service
will be in the Hurling Centre Castlepollard on Monday 21st May from 4.30 to
8.30. Please make a special effort to donate on this occasion.
Junior Painting
Competition
There has been a great response to our painting competition, but to make sure
that we have left no one out, we have extended the closing date to Thursday 31st
May.
Community Games
Under 14 quiz
Well-done to John Coyle, Killian Daly, Peter McKenna and Kelly Coyle , all
members of our under age club who recently represented Westmeath in the
Community Games Quiz at under 14 level, in Mosney, last weekend. A top 10 out of
47 teams was a great result.
Under 12 boys v St.
Paul’s (lightening never strikes twice !!!!!)
Our 4th game in this years under 12 league was played last Wednesday night when
we travelled to Clonmellon to play St. Paul’s. Please do not try to tell any of
our players that lightening does not strike twice, because for the second game
in a row we were denied a win when our opponents scored a goal, with almost the
last kick of the game. As with all our games this year we have tried to play
players in different positions and once again we were not disappointed with some
excellent performances. We gave Killian Daly the number 3 (fullback) for the
first time and rarely has there been a better display in a Ballycomoyle jersey
at under age. Conor Reilly also started as corner back for the first time and
also did exceptionally well. Jack Keating and Andrew Leahy contributed to an
excellent performance from our back line. It was great to see Brendan O' Donnell
back for the first time and his work rate in the forwards, along with Thomas
Bardon, Max Charles, Shane Cunningham and Peter McKenna almost secured us our
first win. In two weeks time on Wednesday 23rd May we travel away to play
Multyfarnham and details of the bus will be given to all the players at our next
training session.
Ladies Football
Under 12 Girls
Ballycomoyle 2-7 St. Paul’s 4-3
Thursday evening saw us take on our nearest rivals St. Paul’s. After a very
short time St. Paul’s led the way with 1-1 to their credit in what appeared to
be going to be a very one sided game. But this group of girls were having none
of it and with pure spirit and determination they came back into the game ending
the first half a point down. St. Paul’s 1-2 Ballycomoyle 0-4. The second half
saw the lead change hands on a number of occasions but unfortunately at the
final whistle it was not our turn to be on top. This was an excellent
performance from the Ballycomoyle girls against a much stronger and older
opposition.
Team: Shannon Farrelly, Ciara Walsh, Sarah Fagan, Anna Henry, Amy
McNicholas, Maria Henry, Emma Goodwin, Anne-Marie Kennedy, Ruth Mulligan, Alanna
Clogher , Aoife Gallagher, Caoimhe McCrossan, Kelly Coyle, Saoirse Farrelly,
Aoife Fitzsimons, Niamh Clogher, Katie Egan, Marie Egan, , Kia Swinburn, Lorna
Hilliard, Shauna Coughlan, Emma Culleton, Rachel McMullen, Roisin Gilsenan, Alex
Farrelly. Our next Under 12 game is against Mullingar Shamrocks on Thursday 24th
in Mullingar @ 7pm. On Thursday 17 the Under 14 team play away to Shandonagh. We
wish Fore School the very best of luck in the small schools girls’ final on
Wednesday 23rd. All support for this team would be greatly appreciated. We also
wish the very best of luck to Collinstown school Camogie team and Castlepollard
hurling team in their finals on Saturday 19th.

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Our Junior Championship campaign for 2007 kicks off this Saturday evening in
Springfield with an eagerly awaited encounter against old rivals Delvin. This
game is scheduled for a 6 pm throw in and we are looking for all the support
possible on the evening. Preparations for this game have not always gone
according to plan but nevertheless, the squad that takes to the field on
Saturday, will, no doubt, give all they can for the hour. Roaney Fagan has been
leading by example all year and he will be aided by Billy Ryan, Tossy Brady and
Maurice Gavigan in defence, whilst upfront the strength and experience of
players like Seamus Farrelly and Jimmy Rhynne, sets up for an entertaining game.
A number of our younger lads will be making their Championship Debut on Saturday
and we wish everyone the very best of luck. Full report next week.
SPONSORED WALK
A very important date for you diary is Friday evening 22nd June, 2007. On this
evening we are holding our Annual Sponsored Walk and again the venue will be the
beautiful Mullaghmeen Forestry. Due to other fundraising last year we were
unable to hold our walk but this year we decided to have it again and indeed we
hope to make it even better than 2005. Sponsorship cards will be issued through
the schools and the underage training and cards for the adults will be available
from any committee member. In 2005 the Junior Footballers ran the 8k challenge
and we hope that both the men’s junior team and the ladies junior team will take
up the challenge again this year. Michael Walsh came home first in 2005 with a
time of 47m 30secs and this is the target for 2007. Organiser's have informed me
that we will have a special "short" walk for John Smyth and Gerry Farrelly as
the walks have been measured specially for them...!!!! This sponsored walk is
very suitable for all age groups with two different routes been identified, 25
min walk and a 50 min walk, so please do make an effort to get a card and help
raise much needed funds which will benefit the entire club. More details to come
in the next few weeks.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations are extended this week to Mike Ginnell, Ballymanus and Helen
Devine, Mooretown who were married on Friday last. We wish them the best of luck
for the future and who knows, Mike might even get the boots out again.
Congratulations is also extended to Bill Corrigan, Mooretown who celebrated his
80th birthday recently.

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Our first game in the 2007 Junior Championship took place in Springfield on
Saturday evening last and we suffered a defeat at the hands of old rivals
Delvin. This game was very similar in many ways to the recent first round
Leinster Championship game involving Westmeath, in that we dominated the first
half and went in at half-time 0.05 to 1.00 in front. However, for some reason or
another we seemed to lack the same drive in the second half as in the first and
we let our opponents back into the game. The loss of one of our most influential
players, (Michael McCormack), through injury was a huge blow to us and shortly
after this Delvin poached a goal followed by some unanswered points. The final
score was Delvin 2.04 to Ballycomoyle 0.06. This was a most disappointing result
and it leaves us a lot of work to do before our next Championship outing which
takes place in The Downs on Sunday, June 17th, when we take on Mullingar
Shamrocks. Team that was defeated by Delvin:M.Reilly, B.Halpin, M.Gavigan,
D.Fagan, M.McCormack(0.01), T.Brady, G.Farrelly, R.Fagan(capt.)(0.01),
B.Ryan(0.02f), K.Weldon, J.Williams, S.Bardon(0.01) J.Rhynne, S.Farrelly(0.01),
B.Smyth. Subs:D.Clogher for D.Fagan, S.Óg Doyne for J.Rhynne, A.Smith for

D.Cheevers, P.Dermody, J.Ward, N.Morgan, D.Nolan, E.Kiernan. On Monday evening
next, June 4th, we play Killucan in the Junior "B" Football Championship in
Ballycomoyle at 5pm, everyone involved is requested to be in the park, no later
than 4.20pm. We would like support on the evening and we would like to thank all
those who gave us their support on Saturday evening last.

UNDERAGE
Was Biddy Earley
from Ballycomoyle???
Just about everybody
involved in Ballycomoyle under age football could be forgiven for thinking that
the legendary curse of Biddie Earley on the Clare hurlers has somehow been
transferred to all of our underage teams this year, as our under 10 boy's and
both our under 12 boys and girls have all lost a number of their most recent
games by conceding a score with the last kick of the game. Our under 10 boys
played Multyfarnham in Ballycomoyle and despite playing very well and leading
for 90% of the game, they had victory snatched from their grasp by conceding a
goal in the 4th minute of injury time. The week before, our under 12 girls
suffered a similar fate when they played host to St Paul's, in a very
entertaining game against a skilful and physically stronger team our girls
played some brilliant football and seemed to have done enough to secure the win,
when once again the concession of the dreaded last minute goal was our undoing.
Our under 12 boys have fared even worse in this department as despite playing
some of our best football in recent weeks, they lost to both St Loman's and St
Paul's again by the afore mentioned last minute goal. Despite these setbacks,
last Wednesday we headed to Bunbrosna with a gritty determination to at
last change our luck. But firstly, the whole team travelled to Cusack Park to
cheer on the girl's from Fore School who were playing in the Cuman Na Bun Scoil
Final for the second year in a row. All the girl's on the Fore team play for the
Bal and Alice, Jane and Sinead in particular, have been very important players
with our under 12 team for the last couple of years. Fore School’s opposition on
the day, was a very strong and skilful Tyrrelspass side, who were also last
year’s champions. Despite the whole team giving 110 % this was not to be Fore's
day with the final score Tyrrelspass 2.08 Fore 1.05.As the boys travelled to
Bunbrosna we told them that if they played with 50% of the skill and
determination shown by Fore that on this occasion, we would not leave empty
handed. From the throw in we took control at midfield and with the ever
impressive Ciarán Fagan and his new mid-field partner on the night, Shane
Cunningham gaining the lions share of possession, we built a winning platform
for our forwards, who on the night could do no wrong. 2 goals and 2 points from
Adrian Leahy, 4 points from Peter McKenna and good performances from the ever
improving Thomas Bardon Nial McCormack and Brendan O Donnell gave us a healthy
half time lead. Bunbrosna were not without their chances but the ever dependable
Kevin Shiels, ably helped by Max Charles, Matthew Gilsenan and Alan Jennings,
all preformed well. In the second half we brought on all our substitutes and
although Bunbrosna rallied late in the game we emerged comfortable winners. A
special word of praise is due to this bunch of players in relation to training.
Out of a panel of 24 players we rarely have less than 20 on any Friday night.
Great work lads, keep up the good work. Also congratulations to Bunbrosna
Football Club on the new club house they have recently built, first class job,
well done.
Under 12 Jerseys
After a number of games played on the May Bank Holiday Monday, we are missing
two jerseys from our Under 12 set. Could all parents involved with children on
the day please check if they have them as they are very expensive to replace.
Also, to keep the jerseys fresh and clean for the children, we like to wash them
after every game. It would be great if some parents could volunteer to wash the
jerseys just once during the year, the help would be greatly appreciated. Please
contact Helen, Doreen or any member of the committee.
Ballycomoyle U-10’s
Ballycomoyle:- 1 – 2 Multy:- 2 - 0 We played our second match in the North
Westmeath Under 10 Tournament in Ballycomoyle on Tuesday 22nd May against Multy.
This was a very eagerly contested game with lots of good football from both
sides. Despite Ballycomoyle being in the driving seat right up to the last
minute it was not to be their day with Multy snatching a goal in the last
seconds of injury time. The mentors would like to thank the players and their
parents for the great effort and support on the evening. All players & their
parents will be contacted shortly regarding following games in this tournament.
Panel on the evening was: Marcus Kennedy, Ryan Farrelly, Daniel Reilly, Warren
Williams, Richard Clogher, Lee Craig, Conor Lynch, Jack Coyle, Daniel Higgins,
Corey Nash, Mark McCormack, Andrew Keating, Sean Lancaster, Jason McClean, Conor
McCrossan, Dean Murphy, Kyle Lawlor, James Bardon, Jamie Gordon, Shane
O’Donnell, Oisin Weitzman. Thanks to Tom Flynn for refereeing the match. For
further details contact Paul:- 087 6737113 or Gerry on 087-0527782.
DOWN’S SYNDROME
IRELAND
On Friday evening next June 1st, directly after our underage training, we are
hosting a "H B Ice Cream Sunday", in aid of Down’s Syndrome Ireland. These
events have been taking place at numerous locations over the past few weeks and
have proved to be a huge success. The actual cost of an ice cream on the evening
will be a mere €2(min) and we hopeful of getting lots of support for this very
worthwhile fundraiser. The evening is open to everyone, so please do drop in and
bring a few euro, we might even have a drop of tea on hand, so come along. For
more information regarding this please contact our chief organiser for this
venture- Neill Salmon @087-4121435.

PRESENTATION NIGHT
On Tuesday night 29th May, we held a very memorable presentation night in Coole
Hall for our U 12 team who won the "C" Championship last year. The night will be
forever etched on the minds of everyone who was fortunate enough, to be in
attendance on the night. A very special man was in attendance on the night and
it was Mr. Stephen Stack from Kerry. Stephen did not come empty-handed as he
brought "The Sam Maguire Cup", with him for company. Stephen presented the
medals to our wonderful girls and Helen had a special word to say on each of the
girls which was added a lot of fun to the occasion. Stephen made a lovely speech
and emphasised that it is not always very important to be winning games but
stated that participation and enjoyment of the game was the most important
factor. He also stated that even when things are going bad, keep the heads up
and all will work out through time. For some people who may not remember Stephen
Stack, Stephen was a corner back for Kerry in 1986 and 1997 when they won the
All Ireland and Stephen was quick to point out that indeed people do forget the
corner backs, even though it is probably the most difficult position on the
entire field. A special presentation was made to Sinead Connell, Alice Murphy
and Jane Coyle by the Chairperson of the Ladies County Committee, Mr. Tom Walsh.
Tom presented the girls with trophies to mark the occasion of all three
representing their County with distinction last year. It must be pointed out
that we were very grateful to Tom for making the special effort to attend. Our
own Club Chairman, Seamus Mc Dermott, presented Sean Óg Doyne and Stephen Bardon
with vouchers to mark their contribution in helping St. Oliver’s Post Primary,
Oldcastle achieving All-Ireland success in the Schools Competitions. The final
presentation of the night was to Stephen Stack himself where he was presented
with a piece of "Genesis", which consisted of "The Children of Lir" which was
very appropriate and very gratefully received. It's never over till the final
whistle and indeed no night would be complete without a word from our very
"shy...!!", underage secretary, Mr. Dermot Mc Keanna. In Dermot's speech, he
traced back to when the Ladies section of our Club was formed and gave a brief
history on this. Dermot pointed out that it was very poignant to note that the
Cup that the girls received for the Championship is "The Sean Coyle Memorial
Cup" and that it is the late Sean's daughter Jane, who had the pleasure of
lifting it at the end of last season. We all know and remember how deeply Sean
was involved with the setting up of the Ladies which has now grown into a huge
section and is always improving. Finally we would like to thank everyone for
coming to our night and to all those people who helped out in anyway to make the
night so special, Thank You All very much.
MEN'S JUNIOR
All roads lead to The Downs on Sunday next where we take on Mullingar Shamrocks
in the second round of the 2007 Championship. This game is a repeat of the
quarter final of last year's championship where we were unfortunate to come in
second best on the day. We would like to see as much support as possible and the
game is scheduled for 1.30pm, we are asking everyone involved to be at the venue
no later than 12.50pm. Our next fixture in this Championship is scheduled for
Friday 22nd where we take on Rosemount in Springfield at 7.30. It seems very
strange at this point that there is only 5 days between these games and this
will have to be looked into. We had a win recently over Killucan in the J.F.B.C.
and on Sunday last we were beaten quite convincingly by a very strong and very
fit Ballinacree side in a challenge game. Full reports from these next week.
LOTTO
Our most recent Club Lotto was held in "Comiskey's", Castlepollard on Tuesday
night 5/6/07. The results were as follows- Draw No. 1--E 10,000 - 3,13,19,21 and
Draw No.2- E 1,200- 4,5,21 and 23. There was no jackpot winners for either draw
and the E 30 winners were as folows- Angela Ward, Rose Clarke, Veronica Smith,
Micheál Fagan and Mark Biggins. Our next draw will be held in "Meehan's", Coole
on Tuesday next 19th June. Again we will have two draws, No. 1 for E10,000 and
No. 2 for E 1,400. Remember,"if you're not in, you can't win”. If anyone still
wants a yearly lotto, please contact Club Secretary @ 087-9268049.

CHAMPIONSHIP WOE'S
CONTINUE
Our recent spell of poor form continued on Sunday last where, in The Downs, we
were defeated quite convincingly by a superior Mullingar Shamrocks side. Right
from the throw in, this was a lively affair with our lads equal to the task for
most of the first half but however when Shamrocks edged in front, we were found
wanting for pace in several key areas. On the day we were well served by Paddy
Cooney who tried hard for the entire game. It should be pointed out at this
stage that from last year's quarter final team that played Mullingar Shamrocks,
we were missing a total of 8 players, ie. Dan Carty, Stephen Reilly, Michael
McCormack(inj.), Mark Mc Nicholas, Derek Mc Niochlas, David Cunningham, Derek
Cheevers and Barry Smyth. These lads are sidelined this year due to other
commitments at the moment and if they were available for Sunday last, I have no
doubt that the result would be very different. However, thanks to all the lad's
who tried so hard on Sunday last and we must keep the head's up for the
remaining two games in this year's Championship. The next game takes place on
Friday evening next 22 in Springfield at 7.30pm and everyone involved is
requested to be at the venue no later than 6.45pm. We face the leading
contenders for the title this year, Rosemount, and we hope that our lad's will
do us proud on the evening. Team that was defeated by Shamrocks: M.Reilly,
D.Clougher, M.Gavigan, B.Halpin, P.Cooney(0.02), T.Brady, J.Williams, R.Fagan,
B.Ryan(0.01), K.Weldon, Jamie Ward, K.Gavigan(1.00), S.Bardon(0.01f),
S.Farrelly(0.01), S.Óg Doyne. Subs used: E.Kiernan for M.Gavigan, P.Dermody for
D.Clogher, A. Smith for K.Weldon, N.Salmon for S.Óg Doyne.
SPONSORED WALK
CHANGE
Unfortunately due to our Junior Championship fixture on this Friday evening we
were forced to re-schedule our annual sponsored walk in Mullaghameen Forestry.
Our walk will now take place on Friday 6th July, starting at 7pm sharp. Cards
are now out but if for some reason you have not already received one please
contact Club Secretary @087-9268049. All of our team mentors are responsible for
ensuring that their charges have cards. This walk has proved to have been a huge
success in the past with walks to suit all ages, from the very young to the very
old. We will be going with the same format as before with a prize for the person
that raises the most money and there will a draw for everyone that completes the
walk as well as a draw for our sponsors. We are at present recruting people to
do the 8k challenge and word has it that Paul McCrossan and Seamus Fay are the
latest people to add their names to the list. So please get a card as soon you
can and play your part in raising much needed funds for our club and have lots
of fun at the same time.

JUNIOR
CHAMPIONSHIP
It came as no great surprise that we were defeated quite convincingly by a very
strong Rosemount side in Springfield on Friday evening last in the third round
of this year’s championship. Ultimately this defeat ends our interest in the
quest for championship honours in 2007 and leaves us now with Junior "B" and
Junior Cup action remaining. Our next game in the Junior "B" Championship, takes
place on Tuesday evening next 3rd July in Kinnegad at 7.30pm, where we take on
the home side. Everyone involved is asked to be at the venue no later than 7pm,
for more details regarding this fixture, please contact asst. secretary Ciáran
on club phone @ 087-9268049. Training will continue on Tuesday and Thursday
evenings until further notice at 8 pm.
SPONSORED WALK
As mentioned last, our sponsored walk will now take place on Friday evening next
6th July, in Mullaghmeen Forestry, commencing at 7 pm. Sponsorship cards are now
out but if for some reason you have not got one, please contact Doreen/Ciáran @
087-9268049 or any committee member. This walk is a fun event for all the
family, from the very young to the more mature people, all are welcome with
walks to suit everyone. Light refreshments will be served afterwards and we will
hold a draw for all who completed the walk and then for all our sponsors. There
will also be a prize on the evening for the person that receives the most
sponsorship money. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
LADIES FOOTBALL
Under 12 Girls through to final.
Our under 12 girls played in the semi final of the D Championship in
Multyfarnham on Wednesday evening. In spite of the amount of rain that fell
during the day we were fortunate to have a dry spell for the duration of the
game. Milltown had beaten us in our first game of the season, however, this team
has grown from strength to strength over the course of the season. Ballycomoyle
played against a strong wind in the first half and defended well while putting
together some nice attacking movements. At half time we were quite happy to be
in arrears by the narrowest of margins Milltown 1-3 Ballycomoyle 1-2. With the
wind in our backs in the second half we retained possession for much of the half
but we had difficulty in finding the target. We did manage to score 3 points to
leave us ahead by 2 at the final whistle. We now play Mullingar Shamrocks on
Saturday 30th June at a time and venue to be finalised at time of going to
press. All support is welcome to what promises to be a very close game. Team:
Shannon Farrelly, Breen Reilly, Sarah Fagan, Anna Henry, Emma Goodwin, Maria
Henry, Alice Murphy, Niamh Clogher, Anne-Marie Kennedy, Caoimhe McCrossan, Aoife
Gallagher, Alanna Clogher, Kelly Coyle, Ruth Mulligan, Fiona Lawlor, Kia
Swinburn, Ciara Walsh, Alex Farrelly, Marie Egan, Katie Egan, Aoife Fitzsimons,
Lorna Hilliard, Bibi O’Reilly, Roisin Gilsenan, Shauna Maher
Junior Ladies
Junior Ladies play St. Paul’s next Monday July 2nd in Clonmellon at 7.30pm in
the Junior Shield competition. All support is welcome.
Under 14 team
Our under 14 girls travelled to Street on Thursday evening to play Clann Gaels.
On this occasion we did not have the luck on our side and lost by 4 points.
Team: Mairead O’Rourke, Mamie O’Reilly, Aoife Flynn, Jenny O’Rourke, Claire
Cheevers, Jane Coyle, Rebecca Flood, Ruth Daniels, Aoife Carey, Sinead Connell,
Alice Murphy, Laura Fogarty, Shauna Boyne, Aoife Gallagher, Kelly Coyle, Marie

Stepping Out In
Style.
On Friday next 6th July, we hold our annual sponsored walk once again in
Mullaghmeen Forestry commencing at 7pm. This promises to be a very enjoyable
evening with walks to suit all ages. If for some reason you have not received a
sponsorship card, please come along on the evening and throw a couple of euro
into the bucket. As this is one of our major fundraisers this year, we are
hopeful of getting loads of support as it will benefit the entire club. Similar
to last year, we will be holding many draws on the evening. Firstly, there will
be a prize for the person who collects the most sponsorship money. Secondly,
there is a draw for everyone who completes the walk and finally, a draw will be
held for our sponsors. Understandably there will be no underage training on the
Friday evening due to the walk. We hope to see everybody out in full step on the
evening. Please remember to bring your sponsorship cards and money on the
evening where it will be gratefully received.
Ladies Junior
Championship.
Our Ladies Junior Championship campaign kicks off Sunday evening 8th July at 6pm
in Athlone where they will face the home side. There will be a bus leaving
Castlepollard at 4:30pm. For further details please contact Marius Reilly. All
support on the evening will be greatly appreciated as our ladies have put in a
huge effort this year. Full match reports featured next week.
Neill Mellon Township
Trust.
On Friday night 6th July, Dermot Henesy will be holding a benefit night in the
Town and Country, Castlepollard commencing at 9:30pm in aid of the Neill Mellon
Township Trust. Tickets are on sale for the night at 5euro and again it promises
to be a great night. Local man Greg McCabe will be banging out the hits and
there will be a free raffle on the night for all who attend. Also an auction
takes place and all proceeds will be going to build houses in South Africa. So
if you are feeling parched after our sponsored walk, why not drop in and finish
the night off in style.

SPONSORED WALK
Pride of place must go this week to everyone who was involved with our sponsored
walk, which took place on Friday night last. A very enjoyable evening was had by
all, and quite a considerable amount of money was collected. The prizes for the
raffle and for collecting the most money will be announced next week. The Club
would like to thank everybody who organised the walk, the stewards, the sponsors
and most especially the people who participated in the walk. For those who may
not have returned their money yet, please bring it to training on Friday evening
next, or you can give it to any committee member.
MENS JUNIOR
Our most recent outing was on Tuesday evening of last week, in the "B"
Championship, in Kinnegad where we took on a very strong home side and despite
everyone trying their utmost we were defeated on a scoreline of 1.14 to 0.03. We
have a number of games left in this championship and also the Junior Cup to look
forward to, so we are asking everyone to keep an eye on the fixtures for more
details
Ladies Football
LADIES JUNIOR
Our Ladies Junior team are keeping the flag flying high at the moment and on
Monday evening of last week we had a very comprehensive victory over arch rivals
St. Paul’s. This was a superb team performance in terrible conditions and with
this victory we have now booked our place in the final of this competition. We
would like to thank all who togged out on the evening and it was very good to
see a total of 25 ladies eager to take to the field. We would also like to thank
our huge travelling support and finally we would like to thank Theresa and Gerry
for their hospitality after the match. Training continues every Friday evening
at 8 pm sharp and it is very important that everyone is in attendance. Team that
defeated St. Paul's: S.Gallagher, L.Gallagher, E.Hannon, T.Weldon, C.O'Neill,
J.Walsh, O.Doolin, A.Farrelly, K.Flynn, S.Dermody, A.Hayden, S.Kilmurray,
C.Clogher.Subs used: S.Murphy for C.Clougher, D.Macken for L.Gallagher.
Under 12 Girls
Our under 12 girls played Mullingar Shamrocks in the final of the D Championship
in The Downs on Saturday 30th June. After a very shaky start and conceding 2-2
in the first 10 mins, we settled into playing like we have done all year,
matching Shamrocks score for score. At half time we trailed by 3-2 to 0-2. The
second half saw this group of girls perform with great spirit clawing back the
deficit to 1 goal with only 5 mins left in the game. However, this was not
to be our day and the physical strength of the Shamrocks side proved too much
for us. Final score Ballycomoyle 3-2 to Shamrocks 5-2.
Team: Shannon
Farrelly, Ciara Walsh, Amy McNicholas, Breen Reilly, Sarah Fagan, Alice Murphy,
Emma Goodwin, Niamh Clogher, Anne-Marie Kennedy, Caoimhe McCrossan, Aoife
Gallagher, Ruth Mulligan, Kelly Coyle, Alanna Clogher,Fiona Lawlor, Maria
Henry, Anna Henry, Marie Egan, Katie Egan, Lorna Hilliard, Shauna Maher.
While this concludes
the championship for these girls for 2007, it is hoped to have some tournament
games during the remainder of the summer.
Under 14 girls
Our under 14 girls prove to be too strong for our visitors Rochfortbridge on
Tuesday 3rd July. A very impressive performance from this team made it two
wins for the ladies of Ballycomoyle for this week. Final Score: Ballycomoyle
5-9 to Rochfortbridge 0-2. Team: Mairead O’Rourke, Shauna Boyne, Aoife Carey,
Jenny O’Rourke, Claire Cheevers, Nicky Fox, Anne Marie Boylan, Aoife Flynn, Ruth
Daniels, Rebecca Flood, Alice Murphy, Laura Fogarty, Anne Marie Kennedy, Aoife
Gallagher, Kelly Coyle. The Under 14 Girls play St. Paul’s in Clonmellon on
Thursday evening at 7pm. All support is welcome.

JUNIOR "B"CHAMPIONSHIP
BARDON POINTS THE
WAY
The very youthful Stephen Bardon pointed Ballycomoyle in the right direction on
Tuesday evening of last week, with a personal tally of 2.06 against Bunbrosna in
this competition. The game itself was played at a very lively pace and there was
quality football played on the evening. Both teams were short some players but
luckily this was a very good opportunity for both sides to give the youth a
chance and we were very pleased with the display of Paul Dermody, Jamie Ward,
Stephen Bardon and John Corrigan, all of who are still minor. Team that defeated
Bunbrosna: N.McKenna, B.Halpin, D.Cheevers, .Dermody, K.Weldon(0.01),
P.Cooney(0.02), A.Smith, R.Fagan, J.Ward, G.Farrelly(0.01), S.Farrelly, T.Brady,
S.Bardon(2.06), B.Ryan, J.Corrigan(1.01), N.McCormack, D.O'Rourke, N.Salmon,
P.Smyth.
A.C.L.F. Div. 3
On Sunday last, July 15th, we travelled to Clonmellon to take on the home side
in this competition. Again both sides were short quite a number of players and
despite this both teams played some good football. At the end of the day we came
out on the wrong side of a 2.13 to 1.09 scoreline and we know that if we had got
a few lucky breaks we could have at least drawn this game. team that was
defeated by St.Pauls: N.McKeanna, N.Mc Cormack, D.Cheevers(0.01), D.Fagan,
K.Weldon, P.Cooney, A.Smith, R.Fagan(1.02), B.Ryan(0.01), G.Farrelly, M.Gavigan,
D.Clogher, J.Corrigan, T.Brady(0.01), S.Bardon(0.03), N.salmon(0.01), R.Farrelly.
On Sunday next 22nd July we are due to play Loughnavalley in Loughnavalley at 12
noon in the first round of the Junior Cup. We are hopeful that we will have a
full panel on the day, there is a place in the semi-final at stake, so we expect
everyone to make an effort to attend.
BITS "n" BOBS
Jimmy Fagan has asked me to inform everyone that numerous items of sports-wear
and gear has been left in the dressing rooms over the past few months, and we
would like if the people that own these items to please come and bring their
gear, otherwise it will be all going to the clothing bank next week. Anyone with
money outstanding for sponsored walk please bring it to underage training on
Friday evening next or give it to any committee member. Thank you. A special
word of praise must go to Michael McCormack and co. for doing such a wonderful
job on keeping the pitch mowed and looking so well all year. Thanks Michael.

JUNIOR MEN'S
Our junior men's team are going through a very barren patch at the moment and
the fact that our interest in the Championship has ceased, it is now merely a
matter of fulfilling all remaining fixtures. We recently travelled to
Loughnavalley to take on the home side in the Junior Cup. Despite only fielding
a very understrength side, we were only one point in arrears at the final
whistle. This was quite a good display with our backline performing really well.
On Friday evening last we travelled to Springfield where we took on St.Fintan's/Multy
in our last game in the 2007 Championship. Yet again we were forced to field a
very understrength team and we came out on the wrong side of a 2.10 to 1.04
scoreline. Team on the day; N.McKenna, N.McCormack, D.Cheevers, M.Gavigan(1.00),
K.Weldon, P.Cooney(0.02), P.Dermody, R.Fagan, J.Ward, N.Salmon, S.Farrelly,
J.Corrigan, S.Bardon(0.03), T.Brady, R.Farrelly. On Saturday evening next 4th
August, we play Ballymore in Ballymore in a crunch game in the J.F.B.C. at
7.30pm, everyone involved is requested to be at the venue no later than 7pm.
Following on from this game our next outing will be at home on Saturday evening
11th August when we take on Milltown in A.C.F.L. Div.3, this game is scheduled
to throw in at 7pm, so again everyone involved should be there at 6.30pm.
BITS "n"BOBS
Just a quick reminder to everyone that we are having our bag pack weekend on the

that the remaining games in the U.10 North Westmeath League will be played in
the next two or three weeks. Our Junior Ladies have been invited down to
Mountnugent on Friday evening next 3rd August to open their festival weekend
with a tournament game. A bus will leave Castlepollard at 7pm and the game kicks
of at 8pm, your support would be greatly appreciated on the evening. Training
for our junior ladies continues each Friday evening at 8pm and they are training
for the shield final and the championship semi-final, keep up the good work
ladies. Our U.14 girls play Shandonagh this Thursday evening at 7pm and a bus

BAG PACK
Ballycomoyle Football Club are holding a bag pack this weekend in Dunnes Stores,
Mullingar, which starts on Thursday 16th and ends on Saturday evening 18th. This
is a huge undertaking again for us and we are encouraging everyone to put their
shoulder to the wheel once again and we hope that we can reap the rewards for
our efforts. Anyone that is involved in the running of any club will undoubtedly
realise the cost's that are now part and parcel of everyday life in such a club.
To all the shoppers, we hope that you can throw some small token into our
collection buckets as we strive to raise some much needed funds, thank you. To
all the people that have pledged some of their time, we shall be sending you a
message reminding you of your time slot and we look forward to seeing you all in
the course of the weekend. For any person that may not yet have been contacted
and would like to help out on the weekend please contact Doreen @087-9268049 or
Gerry @087-0527782 or Dermot @044-9661805 or Seamus @087-8205193, all assistance
will be gratefully received.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL MENS
Unfortunately our Div.3 game vs. Milltown on Saturday evening last fell foul of
the terrible conditions which occurred prior to the kick-off time and the
referee had no option but to deem the pitch unplayable. This was very
disappointing for our lads as this was an evening that we were almost close to
full strength, however we must wait for another day and try to get the same
response from our lads again.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL
LADIES
Our ladies junior footballers were defeated recently in a tournament game in
Mountnugent vs. the home side. It must be pointed out that we were short 6 of
our regular players, but despite this we turned in a great performance. Training
continues each Friday at 8pm and we need a full turnout from now onwards. We
will be playing our Championship semi-final before the end of August and our
Shield Final is scheduled for September 9th. As anyone can see we will have to
step up a gear in training in the coming weeks so please make the effort to
attend.
UNDERAGE NEWS
Summer Camp.
Well done to all 47 of our young footballer's, both girls and boys who took part
in last weeks GAA Cúl camp in Delvin. A great time was had by all and for the
first time this summer we actually got a lovely few days together. A
special word of thanks to Helen Jean and Marius who gave up their time to
supervise on the bus during the week.
Under 12 Football.
Over the last number of week's we have played 4 games in the under 12 league and
came away with 2 wins and 2 defeats. We player our bogey team the Down's in Bal
and a great goal by Ciarán Fagan with the first kick of the ball in the second
half left us trailing by just a point and hope's of at last getting a win
against the senior club now seemed a real possibility . But then football is a
funny old game and a strong push from our opponent's saw them run out worthy
winners. In our last game in the first section of this year's league
we travelled to Multyfarnham on one of those now far to familiar very wet
evening's to play the home side. With a very strong wind at their back our
opponent's got off to a whirlwind start and after a couple of minute's they led
by 1- 3 to no score. However, we steadied the ship and at half time had cut the
deficit to just one point and with the help of the strong breeze we got the
score's that secured the win. Castledaly travelled to Ballycomoyle for our
next game and gave a great display of point scoring to open a big half time lead
but despite being missing quite a number of player's due to holiday's etc., the
Bal, with the help of a great goal from Adrian Leahy, fought back to leave only
5 point's between the side's at full time. I was also informed that a certain
young man by the name of Owen Fagan, gave notice that he will be one to watch
in the future with a couple of goal's of his own. We travelled to our
neighbours, C/F/C/W last Tuesday night on what was one of the few good night's
for football this year and it must be said that both set's of player's gave the
large attendance an excellent display of under age football. Like many of our
game's this year, we were slow to leave the blocks and our opponents took full
advantage taking some excellent scores to lead by four points at half time .A
fantastic second half display from midfielder Connor Reilly (undoubtedly our
most improved player this year ) ably assisted by fullback Alan Jennings, Kevin
Sheilds, Max Charles, Thomas Bardon and Alice Murphy, who only had her appendix
out three weeks ago, gave enough possession to our forwards Matthew
Gilsenan(1-1) Brendan O Donnell (1-1) Shane Cunningham ( 1-1)Niall McCormack
and Peter McKenna 2 points each to secure the win. Well done to all concerned.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations are extended this week to Kevin Gavigan and Bernie Carley
who got married recently. We wish them the best of luck for the future.
Congratulations are also extended to Claire Coyle who celebrated her birthday on
Sunday last, I am not allowed to say what age she was but a little bird told me
that she celebrated the 19th anniversary of her 21st. A party was held in "Paddie's
Nite Club" and we are reliably informed that Paddy is now taking bookings for
all types of parties.

LOTTO
While the National Lotto and The Euromillions Lotto are at the forefront of
everyone's mind of late, we must remind people that we are still running our
very successful Club Lotto on a fortnightly basis. Our most recent lotto draw
was held on Tuesday night last in "The Abbey House", Fore and it was very well
supported. On the night we had two draws and the results are as follows- Draw
No. 1- E 10,000 - 6,11,15,28. Draw No. 2- E 2,200 - 6, 7, 12, 26 and there was
no winner of either jackpot. The E 30 winners were Aoife Farrelly, Hurley
Anderson, Maureen Fay, Marie Kelleghan and Eammon Creggy. Our next draw will be
held on Tuesday night next 28th August in "The Town and Country", Castlepollard
and again we will have two draws, firstly for E 10,000 and the second one for E
2,400. Your continued support, as always, is greatly appreciated and remember
"if you're not in, you can't win".

see this took a huge effort from huge number of people and we here in
Ballycomoyle Football Club, really appreciate the effort that everyone put in.
We have not yet got a full total of the amount raised but we do know that it
exceeded our expectations. We would like to thank everyone that took part in the
bag pack and also to the Management and Staff of Dunnes Stores, Mullingar who
were so helpful to us all weekend. Thank you again.

JUNIOR LADIES
Our Junior Ladies are keeping the flag flying on the playing fields at the
moment and their most recent game was on Tuesday night last in Bunbrosna, where
they were defeated by a very strong Tyrellspass side. Despite suffering a defeat
our ladies can be very proud of the huge effort that they put into this game and
it must be said that, with every game these ladies are getting stronger and will
be in strong contention for the Championship "shakeup" next year. We must thank
all 22 ladies for taking to the field and we must also thank our supporters on
the evening. The ladies are still in the final of the Shield and this is
scheduled to take place before the end of September. Training for this final has
begun in earnest and everyone concerned should be on the pitch every Friday
evening before 8 pm.
GROUNDS COMMITTEE
The Club would like to thank Noel Smith, Jimmy Smith, Paul Dermody, Jimmy Fagan
and Michael McCormack, for their efforts in trying to get our pitch back in
order. As any grounds people would know, the past few very wet months, have left
their mark on most pitches and with a very small window of opportunity to get
grass mowed, it is sometimes a huge struggle to keep the place in check. However
with the aid of the above people, our pitch is slowly recovering and hopefully
we will get rid of any excess grass that maybe on surface in the next few days.
Well done lads.
SCÓR
Unbelievable....yes folks....it is so hard to believe but we are approaching
that time of year again and the Junior Scór will soon be at the forefront of
everyone’s mind. The County A.G.M. will take place on Tuesday night next 11th
September and following on from this we will most likely be holding an
information/registration evening. We will let everyone know in lots of time, so
watch this space.
U-10 North Westmeath

some great football with Ballycomoyle coming out winners at the final whistle.
Team: Jamie Gordon,

Conor Lynch, Daniel Higgins, Jack Coyle, Marcus Kennedy, Kevin O’Brien, Lee

Ciarán Lynch, Andrew Keating, Corey Nash, James Bardon.
The Club would like
to thank Delvin GAA for their hospitality and also Ned Flynn for his hard work
in organising this tournament which was a great success and enjoyed by all.
Thanks also to the many parents for their huge support on the day..

UNDERAGE TRAINING
As per usual September hails the end of our very successful and enjoyable Friday
evening sessions for our underage players and on next Friday evening, Sept.14th,
we are drawing a halt to this years proceedings. We will have the usual session
and afterwards,(weather permitting) we will have a bar-b-que and also we will
have tea and sandwiches and some light refreshments served. We hope to see all
our underage and their parents present and even if the children may have missed
some sessions, we are urging everyone to try and make the effort for this last
Friday evening. Also on Friday we will have the long awaited prize-giving for a
number of items, firstly we will have the winners of our art competition which
was held earlier in the year. Secondly we will have the prizes for the sponsored
walk and finally we will have a draw for all those who took part in our recent
very successful bag-pack. So all in all, as one can see we have a very busy
evening ahead of us and we hope that the weather will be kind to us. Looking
forward to seeing you all there.

UNDERAGE
On Friday night 14th September our underage training came to an end with a
fabulous evening's fun in Ballycomoyle. The weather was extremely kind to us on
the night and a rough count told us that we had in excess of 100 children
present, this was from U12's down to the U 6's. We were delighted to see so many
parents present on the evening and we can without a doubt say that the future of
the Club looks very healthy indeed. On the evening we had a Bar-b-que and this
turned out to be very successful and a big word of thanks must go to Seamus and
Aoife Mc Dermott who were the main chef's on the evening. Another word of thanks
must go to Doreen Farrelly, Maureen Fay and Anne Dermody, who were the chief
operators for all the tea's and sandwich's and also the crisps and minerals. To
all our underage coaches we must again re-iterate, our deepest gratitude for all
the hard work that they have put in during the year and we hope to see everyone
back again next year with the same wonderful enthusiasm as they showed in the
past months, to everyone concerned with all aspects of our Underage, Thank You
Very Much.

JUNIOR LADIES
CAPTURE 2007 SHIELD
Pride of place this week must go to our wonderful Junior Ladies who, on Sunday
last captured the 2007 Junior Shield in a thrilling encounter against Athlone.
Rotchfortbridge was the venue for this epic encounter and the game lived up to
pre-match expectation. Athlone defeated our ladies earlier on in the year and
there was no doubt that our girls knew what they had to do to come away with the
spoils. The girls have to be complimented for the hard work that they have put
in the weeks leading up to this final and indeed it was all worthwhile in the
end. The game itself was a very close affair throughout and at the end of normal
time the scoreline read 3.06 to 4.03, which meant that the game went into extra
time. A goal early in the first period of extra time for our girls paved the way
for our historic first ever success at this grade, the final score read
Ballycomoyle 4.06- Athlone 4.04. Needless to say our ladies and their huge
number of supporters were ecstatic and celebrations commenced immediately. A
huge word of praise must go to the Team Manager, Marius Reilly, who done an
absolutely fabulous job all year with the ladies and he left no stone un-turned
in his preparation of the team for the big day. Thanks also to Helen Coyle who
aided Marius throughout the year and we hope that both will be back again next
year and I am sure that already they are focused on the 2008 Championship. The
management and team would most sincerely like to thank their sponsors, Gerry and
Theresa Nea "Town and Country", Kathryn Cooney “Lough Lene Inn", Christy Salmon
Bus Hire and Niall Mc Kenna "McEnroe & Mc Kenna", for everything that was
provided over the course of their season. Finally they would also like to say a
huge thank you to all the supporters who turned out in huge numbers on Sunday
last and this was very much appreciated. Team that recorded this historic win:
Sinead Gallagher, Lousie Farrelly, Elizabeth Hannon, Clodagh O'Neill, Cariosa
O’Neill, Tracey Weldon, Joanne Walsh, Keri Flynn, Ciara Clogher, Ruth
Daniels(3.03), Karen Coyle, Sabrina Dermody(1.03), Jane Coyle: Subs used; Orla
Doolin for E.Hannon, Ashling Farrelly for C.O'Neill, E.Hannon for S.Gallagher,
Sinead Kilmurray for C.Clogher,Claire Cheevers for K.Flynn.
ANNUAL SOCIAL DANCE
The October Bank Holiday is here again and as similar to every other year, this
is the weekend that we hold our Annual Social dance in Hotel Castlepollard.
Admission on the night is a meagre €10 and we hope that you can make it on the
night.
UNDERAGE NEWS
Under 12 League
Our under 12 team had a great finish to this year's league with consecutive wins
against Moate and Castletown/Coole/Whitehall/Finea. Firstly we played Moate at
home and after a very well contested game we found ourselves behind by 4 points
and only a couple of minutes left on the clock, but on this occasion we got a
little bit of the luck, which deserted us in some of our earlier games and two
late goals gave us a great win. This result gave us the opportunity of playing
our near neighbours for the second time this year under lights in St. Lomans.
Our first meeting in Castletown was a very close affair and it took a huge
effort by all the team in the second half to secure a win. In St. Lomans we
seemed to hold the upper hand from early on and on a small pitch our physically
stronger team pulled away to win by a couple of points. Each player from all the
teams present were presented with a football and then all the Ballycomoyle lads
headed off to Lino's where we were treated very well by the man himself, and a
great evening was had by all.
St. Feichins v
Coralstown - Interschools League.
Well done to all the Ballycomoyle lads playing for St. Feichins on Friday
last and after a very entertaining hard fought encounter against Coralstown, the
game finished in a draw. St. Feichins 4 6 - Coralstown 4 6. From Emmet Kane who
was brilliant in goals and was well served by his 3 backs Andrew Leahy Paul
Byrne and Jack Coyle to the mid fielders Peter McKenna and Shane Cunningham who
worked very well together and the forwards Owen Connell, Kevin O Brien and
Vincent Plunkett who all worked very hard for the team. Richard Clogher and Ryan
Farrelly make up the ten lads who play for the Bal and on Friday’s performance
our club has a bright future indeed.
UNDERAGE TRIP.
Bank Holiday Monday 29th October is the one day in the year when we can forget
about football and head on our annual trip to Dublin. Total fun takes over as we
leave Castlepollard at 9.30 and head to the National Aquatic Centre, then it is
onto the Red Cow Inn for some food and then we will finish the day with the
Cinema in Liffey Valley and all this at a cost of €15 (balance subsidised by
club) per child / adult, so its not just great fun but it is also good value.
All members should have got notification through the schools but if not, don’t’
worry just call Helen 087-2207374, Doreen 087-9268049, Gerry-9666785 or Dermot
9661805as soon as you can. A great day is guaranteed.
St. Michael's
Hard luck to St. Michaels under 14 team who came up against a very good St.
Malachys/ Ballinagore combination in the under 14 division 2 final in St. Lomans
last Saturday. We were well beaten on the day but lets not forget all the good
games during the year when on the way to the final we only lost one game and
that was only by a solitary point to Rochfortbridge. So heads up lads! no doubt
there will be better days ahead.
St. Michael's Race
Night
On Saturday 17th November we hold a very important fund raising night in Mc
Cormacks Castlepollard. We rarely ask for money, and do our best to keep the
costs of running the club and on players as little as possible. Horses and only
€10 each so please support and if you feel you could sell a card of just 8 lines
please contact Dermot, Ned or any member of the St. Michaels Committee. Your
support would be greatly appreciated.

Management of Fore N.S., for allowing them to use the school for practise

SCÓR na nÓG
Deepest apologies to all concerned with Scór na nÓg recently as this P.R.O. was
otherwise occupied for the past few weekends and failed to report on all the
latest news. On Saturday night 10th November we successfully hosted one of the
first rounds of Scór na nÓg in Collinstown hall and we were represented in all
sections. Our set dancers were the only group who got through to the semi-final
stage and we must say hard luck to all our other competitors. On the weekend of
16-18 November our Instrumental Music Group, Ballad Group and Set Dancers took
part in their respective semi-finals and after stiff competition in each section
our wonderful Ballad Group were deemed worthy of a place in the County Finals.
The County Finals took place on Sunday last November 25th in Ballymore and
despite putting in a huge performance our Ballad Group, comprising of Mairead
O'Rourke,Alisha Fitzpatrick, Maria Henry, Anna Henry and John Coyle, were denied
the laurels of victory on this occasion. The entire Club would like to thank
Catherine Daly and Doreen Farrelly for the huge effort that they put into
preparing all 36 young people for their respective competitions, this was a
mammoth task and the sheer enjoyment and comradeship that the children achieved
from participating bears testament to the work that Doreen and Catherine put in.
We would also once again, like to thank The Board of Management of St. Fechins
N.S., Fore and Ms. Fanning for the use of the school for all the practise
sessions. Finally we would like to thank all the children and their parents for
making the effort to represent our small Club so proudly and we hope to see
everyone back again next year and who knows, we might be lucky enough to capture
some of the County Titles.
A.G.M.
On Sunday 11th November we held our A.G.M. in The Parish Centre, Castlepollard
and this was quite well attended. The meeting followed the usual format with the
minutes of the previous A.G.M. read and adopted. The Chairman then paid tribute
to the Club Secretary's Report and stated that Doreen must be congratulated for
this wonderful report (which can be viewed on our website
www.ballycomoyle.com), and for all her hard work and dedication throughout
the year. Anne Dermody then gave an equally impressive financial report, clearly
detailing our income and expenditure throughout the past year. Anne must also be
congratulated for her wonderful work and dedication throughout the year also.
Our Chairman, Seamus Mc Dermot then gave his address and this was very well
received. Our Underage Secretary, Dermot Mc Kenna gave his account of all the

IDEAL X-MAS GIFT
Yes folks, here we are again and we are approaching the time of year
celebrations and exchanging of gifts and if for some reason you may be stuck on
what to get for a certain person, we may have an answer for you. Last year we
introduced our Lotto Gift Voucher and there was quite a good uptake on this
idea, so this year we decided to run with the same idea again. The scheme is
that on payment of E 50 we give you a voucher which would entitle the recipient
of this voucher, entry into our Club Lotto for the entire year. Our jackpots now
stand at No.1- E 10,000 and No.2- E 3,600, so this is actually quite a nice gift
to receive. For more information regarding this please contact Doreen
@087-9268049 or Helen @087-2207374. If you would like a different type of gift,
why not invest in some Clubwear, we have Jackets, Hoodie's, Polo Shirts, Kit
Bags etc. available but please note that last orders for sportswear will be
closing on Friday next 7th December. For more information regarding sportswear
please contact Ray @087-9268049.

BUMPER CHRISTMAS
LOTTO DRAW
On Friday night next December 21st we are holding our annual bumper Christmas
lotto draw in "The Seven Wonders Bar", Fore. Tickets are on sale from our usual
outlets but just in case that all are sold out, please contact our club
secretary @ 087-9268049, to ensure that you are in with a chance of winning. Our
jackpots now stand at E 10,000 for the first draw and E 4,000 for the second
draw, along with these we have numerous prizes on the night including turkeys,
hams, spirits, vouchers etc., so be warned, "if you're not in you can't win".
Our idea from last year of "The Ideal Christmas Gift", which is a E 50 voucher
for our yearly lotto, has really been a huge success and many people have
availed of the opportunity to ease some of the pressure of trying to get
something for somebody who seems to have everything. The voucher enables the
recipient to be included for every draw for the entire year and with the
jackpots now in excess of E 14,000, it is indeed an ideal gift. Gift vouchers

DINNER DANCE
Our Club Dinner Dance takes place on Friday night 18th January in "The Crover
House Hotel", Mountnugent, Co. Cavan and promises to be a night not to be
missed. We have declared it as our first Dinner Dance, but some sources would
say that we had a Presentation Dinner Dance in 1992 after we annexed the Junior
championship in '91. Regardless, this Dance provides the entire community an
opportunity to be part of a great night of celebration and fun and on the night
we will be presenting our Ladies with their medals for winning the 2007 Junior
Shield. Music will be provided by the wonderful pairing of Noel Briody and Eddie
Quinn and for those who are still full of energy after this pair we will have a
disco "well into the wee hours". Tickets for the dance are currently on sale
from any committee member or by contacting Club Secretary Doreen @087-9268049.
SYMPATHY
The Club would like to convey its deepest sympathies to the Butler family,
Castletown on the double loss that they suffered recently. Firstly they lost
Eileen, after a short illness and then they lost Brian who was killed in a
tragic accident at the workplace. Our sympathies are with them.
PLAYERS MEETING
A very important players meeting takes place on this Thursday night in Fore N.S.
at 8pm (sharp) and all players are requested to attend. We are delighted to
report that Pat Shryane has agreed to stay on as manager for another term and we
wish Pat the best of luck in 2008. Pat will be addressing the meeting and will
be outlining the plans for the year ahead.
SEASONS GREETINGS
The Ballycomoyle Football Club would like to wish all its members, players and
supporters a joyful, peaceful and safe Christmas and a very Happy New Year. We
would most sincerely like to thank everyone who helped out in any way during the
year and we hope to see everyone again next year, with as much enthusiasm as
they showed this year and who knows what "silverware" the new year may bring.
WEB SITE
Christmas is the ideal time to sit down and un-wind and during your free time,
why not log onto our wonderful web-site. You will be astonished to find so much
history, photos and a complete run down of all our clubs activities. This site
is well worth a visit and leaves other Clubs in its wake and huge credit must go
to Seamus Coyle for keeping it up-dated, keep up the good work Seamus.
