SCOR
Pride of place this week must go to Siobhan Murphy who represented the club in
the senior scor semi-finals in the Downs on friday night last and following a

be very proud of themselves. Seamus Mc Dermott, Niall Mc Keanna and Seamus Coyle
took part in the question time and Grainne Mc Manus took part in the recitation.
Well done to everybody concerned and hopefully we will continue to take part in
scor for many years to come. Siobhan will be taking part in the final in The

On Saturday evening last we kicked of our season
with a very worthwhile challenge game against a strong second team from
Oldcastle. Our opponents started stronger and were clinical in all of their
movements but as the game progressed our youthful side improved and grew in
confidence. Davy Nolan was outstanding in goals and in the first half he made a
spectacular save. Derek Cheevers was a tower of strength at full back as was
Seamus Farrelly at full forward. Our centre field pairing of Billy Ryan and
Tossy Brady combined well and Barry Smyth was lethal as usual from the placed
ball. David Cunningham showed well throughout and Joey and his selectors were
very pleased with the result. Training has begun in earnest from Tuesday night
last and will continue each Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.30 sharp. Team that
defeated Oldcastle Juniors: D. Nolan, C. Dermody, D.Cheevers, B.Halpin,

we may claim that coveted title.

discuss some outstanding issues, start time for training will also be announced
at this meeting. More details in coming weeks.

people are reaping all the benefits and the GAA receive no payment from them
whatsoever. So we are just warning people to be vigilant.

Our season got off to a flying start on Saturday afternoon when our ladies
played host to a visiting team from Castleknock, Dublin. It was great to see a
big turn out of players on such a bad afternoon. Both games were played in a
very sporting manner. With very little difference between the teams, every ball
was keenly contested. At under 12s, a single point separated the sides however,
Ballycomoyle under 14s had a bit more to spare. Afterwards both teams were
treated to some refreshments in McCormacks. Training for all under 12 girls

PRESENTATION NIGHT
Pride of place has to go everyone concerned with our presentation night which
was held on Wednesday last. The night was an outstanding success and the
memories will last a lifetime. We were very fortunate to secure the services of
the 2005 GAA Personality of the Year, Sean Og O hAilpin. Sean Og arrived up late
on Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning he visited the local national schools
and just after lunch he went to the Vocational school. We would like to thank
all the teachers and staff for the reception that Sean Og received and later on
at the presentation he pointed out how enjoyable his day had been. Sean Og gave
a wonderful speech and in it he left the whole congregation with several
lessons, not only for sport, but for use in all walks of life. One such example
was a teacher once told him about the "3 D" factor, this was dedication,
determination and desire, and if applied to whatever you are doing, you will
succeed. He told us also about his first ever U 12 Championship medal and how
important it still is to him. Sean Og then presented all 49 girls with their
medals (U12+U14) and after this he presented the mixed U12 team of 2005 with a
special memento to mark the good season that they had. The night finished with
light refreshments for everyone and Sean Og signed jerseys etc,. We would like
to thank everyone for helping out on the day and on the night and a special word
of thanks must go to Dermot, Anna-Marie and Peter McKenna, who, without their
input this wonderful event would not have taken place. Finally we would just
like to say a huge thank you to Sean Og for honouring us with his presence.
LADIES
Our U 16 girls kicked of their season last week with a visit to Springfield,
where they took on Mullingar Shamrocks. After a shaky first half we came out
more determined in the second half and we improved very well. However the
improvement was not sufficient and we lost, we do know now that we must settle
down early in a game and hopefully we will have a better result the next day
out. Team: S.Boylan, A.Byrne, L.Fox, M.Lynch, A.M.Boylan, R.Daniels, J.Coyle,
K.Flynn, K.Coyle, C.Clougher, M.Murphy, A.Dermody, M.Nea, L.Gorman, E.Salmon,
S.Boyne, A.Murphy. Our Junior ladies are due to play on Monday next April 17 in
The Downs, while our U 14 girls are due to play in Loughnavalley on Thursday
20th. All ladies are reminded that fixture updates can be viewed on our website.

UNDERAGE
We played our first
game in this years under 12 league when we travelled to Milltownpass on what
turned out to be one of the worst evenings so far this year. With seven of last
years team moving up to the St. Michaels under 14 and a number of our under 12's
missing for various reasons we had just 16 players to pick from. In the first
half scores were hard to come by but with 10 minutes gone Sinead Connell
collected the ball to give us our first point. Both teams scored two more points
each before Matthew Gilsenan playing at full forward got the crucial score of
the game when he sent the ball to the back of the net to give us a 4 point lead
at half time. The second half was very evenly contested and despite Milltown
pass getting in for a goal we emerged winners by 5 points. Best on the day for
Ballycomoyle were John coyle in Goals, Ciaran Fagan at full back, John Egan at
centre half forward and Matthew Gilsenan and Sinead Connell in the full forward
line. We would also like to mention two new players, Jack Keating and Fergal
Tiernan to the team and hope they enjoy the year’s football.

MULLINGAR SHAMROCKS UNDER 12:
For our second game this year we were at home to play Mullingar Shamrocks. We
had a shaky start but slowly got into the game and were most unfortunate to go
in a point down at half time as we had a lot of possession but kicked quite a
number of wides. On two occasions in the second half we found ourselves 3 points
behind but showed great determination to get back on level terms only to be
denied a share of the points by a late, late Mullingar point. When the final
whistle was blown huge disappointment was plain to be seen on the faces of all
our players, but despite loosing the game this can be regarded as a first class
team performance with each and every one of the 16 players used running
themselves into the ground for their team mates. In goal Conor McLaverty was
excellent with his kick outs and distribution of the highest quality. In the
backs Kevin Shiels, Andrew Leahy, Alice Murphy and Jane Coyle in particular were
impressive. At midfield Tommy Gallagher never say die attitude and his
willingness to chase every ball lifted his teammates on more than one occasion.
In the forwards John Egan had one of his best games for Ballycomoyle and his
running with the ball and his passing brought all the forwards into the game.
Jack Coyle, our youngest player was a real handful for Shamrock defenders when
he came on and is improving with every game. Our next game is away to St, Lomans
on Wednesday 26th April and bus will leave Castlepollard at 5.30 and continue on
to Fore and Collinstown. All players will be notified close to the date. It was
great to see 4 new players down at Under 12 training last Friday night, I would
hope they will come to St. Lomans on Wednesday 26th. A warm welcome to Brendan O
Donnell, Niall McCormack, Thomas Bardon and Max Charles.

LADIES
The under 12 girls
travelled to The Downs on Tuesday 11 April for their first game of the season.
This was the first full game for many of our players and they did very well.
With the strong wind in their backs in the first half, they gave it everything
and had a comfortable lead at half time. The second half saw a strong challenge
from The Downs girls, but it was not enough for them. A great spirited
performance from all the Ballycomoyle players ensured a win. Ballycomoyle team:
Shannon Farrelly, Aoife Flynn, Kelly Coyle, Alice Murphy, Jane Coyle, Niamh
Clogher, Anne Marie Boylan, Claire Cheevers, Tara Kennedy, Sinead Connell, Aoife
Gallagher, Saoirse Farrelly and Mamie Reilly.
Ladies Junior Team:
We played The Downs in the first round of the Junior Championship on Monday
17th. With some new players and players playing junior football for the first
time, this was no easy task. Inexperience and lack of match practice proved
costly with The Downs running out easy winners on the day. Ballycomoyle team:
Clodagh O’Neill, Michelle Egan, Sharon Kenny, Jenny Cooney, Keri Flynn,
Elizabeth Hannon, Tracey Weldon, Aisling Farrelly, Rachel Coyne, Emer Cullen,
Deirdre Macken, Lynn Byrne, Claire Flanagan, Sabrina Dermody, Aisling Dermody,
Sinead Traynor
Girls Under 14:
The under 14 girls travelled to Loughnavalley on Thursday 20th April. As with
all games between Loughnavalley and Ballycomoyle this was a very closely
contested game. Both teams evenly matched. On this occasion Ballycomoyle girls
fought the hardest and came out winners. Ballycomoyle team: Niamh Lynch, Sarah
Boylan, Nicky Fox, Emma Goodwin, Alice Murphy, Ciara Clogher, Jane Coyle, Ruth
Daniels, Claire Cheevers, Mairead McLarney, Karen Coyle, Sinead Connell, Shauna
Boyne, Samantha Smith, Tara Kennedy, and Aoife Gallagher. The Girls Under 16
team play Athlone in Ballycomoyle on Thursday night and the Junior team take on
St. Paul’s in Clonmellon on Sunday next, time to be confirmed for both matches.
Our U 16 girls will be back in action on Thursday night next 4th May when they
travel to Loughnavalley, the bus will be leaving the Square in Castlepollard at
6 pm sharp. Just a quick reminder regarding training, training takes place in
Ballycomoyle every Friday evening from 7-8pm for our U8, U10 and U12 and from
8.15 pm training is for our U14, U16 and Junior ladies.
JUNIORS
Our poor performance in the junior league continued on Saturday evening last
with a defeat to Caulry. Despite some very spirited displays on the evening we
were not just fully up to scratch. We are still in the process of building a
team and hopefully by our next outing, which will be the first round of the
Junior Championship on May 7th v Caulry, we will be able to reverse the result
from last Saturday evening. We would like to welcome back Stevie Reilly and
Adrian Smith onto the training field, and without any doubt they both will have
a major role to play in this years Championship.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congrats this week to Austin Dobson who celebrated a "big" birthday last
weekend, with a surprise party in Castlepollard. Austin has been a solid
supporter for all our functions down through the years and we wish him all the
best for many more years.
REMINDER
A quick reminder to everyone that if they want anything for inclusion in the
weekly notes, please send it to P.R.O. before 10pm on Sunday nights. I would
like to thank people who contributed this week and look forward to more in the
future. Photos and bits and bob's from Sean Og's visit can be viewed on our
website. Thanks to Seamus for keeping our site updated on a regular basis.

JUNIOR
All roads lead to Mullingar next Sunday where we kick off our Junior Football
Championship campaign. The game takes place in St. Lomans at 2.30 and our
opponents are Caulry. This game is a rematch of our last league fixture where we
suffered a heavy defeat, however we would be hoping to reduce this deficit quite
substantially. Everyone involved in this game are requested to be at the venue
no later than 1.45 pm. We are also appealing to people to come and support us on
the day and as always the support is greatly appreciated. We would like to wish
the team and management the best of luck on Sunday next and we look forward to
seeing you all there.
LOTTO
Our most recent club lotto was held in "The Town and Country", Castlepollard on
Tuesday night last 25/4/06. The results are as follows, Draw No. 1 E 10,000,
numbers drawn 7,9,10,20. Draw No. 2 E 3,200 -numbers drawn 3,13,15 and 28, there
was no jackpot winner in either draw, the E 30 winners were as follows Sean
Carroll, Thomas Finglas, Niall McKenna, Mary Kenny and Brandon Fagan. The next

Congrats this week are extended to Seamus Fay who celebrated his 30th birthday
in fine style last weekend. Seamus received a huge surprise party in "The Castle
House Hotel", Oldcastle and it was an excellent night. Seamus has been a
selector with us for the past few years and is very highly respected with
everyone. The party was not the only surprise that he received on the night as
he was questioned by a "Ban Garda!!!!", and we all saw a different side of poor
Seamus on the night. All the ladies present will never look on Seamus the same
again. Congrats again Seamus and the best of luck for many more years to come.

JUNIORS EARN DRAW
Our junior team earned a draw in the first round of the Junior Championship on
Sunday last in St. Lomans, where they played Caulry. We all knew that after our
heavy defeat in the league that we needed to improve and that we did. The game
was very evenly contested throughout and in the end a draw was probably a fair
enough result. We must thank all the lads for putting such a huge effort on the
day and everyone is reminded that training continues each Tuesday and Thursday
night at 8 pm sharp. There will be no more excuses accepted and in the case of a
genuine reason for absenteeism, Joey must be contacted well in advance. It is
going to take a massive effort from everyone if we are going to progress to the
closing stages of this year’s championship. We are scheduled to play Killucan on
Tuesday night next 16 th in Joristown at 7 pm in the first round of the Junior
"B" Championship. This game is equally important as the "A" championship and
everyone involved is requested to be at the venue no later than 6.30 pm. Team
that drew with Caulry: M.Reilly, A.Smith, D.Carty, M.Gavigan, G.Farrelly,
T.Brady, R.Fagan, B.Ryan, M.Mc Niochlas, J.Williams, S.Farrelly, P.Molloy,
D.Cunningham, D.Cheevers, B.Smyth, Subs: S.Reilly, K.Gavigan, D.Clogher,
B.Halpin, D.Fagan, C.Mc Cormack, N.Morgan, D.Nolan, S.Mc Eoin. Finally we would
like to thank the sizeable number of people that came to support the team on
Sunday, great to see it once
again.
Girls Under 12 vs. Mullingar Shamrocks.
Ballycomoyle girls faced Mullingar Shamrocks on Tuesday 25th April in the second
round of the Under 12 Championship. Games between these two teams for the past
number of years have always been close encounters. On this occasion it was the
girls from Ballycomoyle that came out on top. With each girl giving her best,
it was a superb team performance. Ballycomoyle team: Shannon Farrelly, Aoife
Flynn, Emma Goodwin, Alice Murphy, Jane Coyle, Sinead Connell, Claire Cheevers,
Aoife Gallagher, Niamh Clogher, Tara Kennedy, Alanna Clogher, Saoirse Farrelly,
Ciara Walsh, Caoimhe McCrossan, Anne-Marie Kennedy, Maria Henry, Marie Egan,

UNDER 12'S
We travelled to Mullingar to play St. Lomans Blues in what was our third game of
the year. On a near perfect evening for football the first half of this game was
evenly contested but towards the end, our mid field pairing of John coyle and
Tommy Gallagher gained the upper hand and this allowed this to tag on some
scores to take a lead in at half time. In the second half we went from strength
to strength and increased our lead most notably through John Coyle, the
excellent John Egan and a goal from Brendan O Donnell, who was playing in his
first game for Ballycomoyle. Brendan was one of four players who was playing for
the first time, well done also to Max Charles, Thomas Bardon and Niall Mc
Cormack. In the backs Kevin Shields, Andrew Leahy and Killian Daly, (who
recently returned from ten days in the sun) were as reliable as ever. Our next
game is at home in Ballycomoyle when we will play St. Paul’s on Wednesday 10th
May. All players to be in Ballycomoyle at 7 o'clock please.
Team:
John Coyle, Jane Coyle, Matthew Gilsenan, Thomas
Bardon, Kieran Fagan, Tommy Gallagher, Brendan O Donnell,

JUNIOR "B" CHAMPIONSHIP
We suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Killucan on Tuesday night of last
week in the first round of this championship. This game gave us an opportunity
to give a lot of our younger and not so young lads a chance to play. Overall it
was a very one sided affair but we can be quite content with the displays from
Paul Molloy, Alan Smith, Adrian Smith and Stevie Reilly. Our next outing in this
championship is on next Tuesday evening 30th May in Ballycomoyle at 7.30 sharp,
we are requesting that everyone involved should be at the park no later
than 7pm. On Saturday evening next 27th May we are due to play Multy in
Ballycomoyle at 7.30 in the 4th round of the junior league. Again we are asking
everyone involved to be at the park no later than 7pm. It is very important from
now on that we have a full turnout of players at both training and games, as the
next round of the all important Junior Championship is only two weeks away.
UNDERAGE NEWS
UNDER 12'S
We were at home for the first game of this year’s league, when we played St.
Paul’s in Ballycomoyle. In good conditions and in front of a great crowd we
undoubtedly played our best football of the year. From the throw-in we took the
game to our physically stronger opponents, and near the end of the first half we
held a well deserved three point lead. However, a goal and a point in the last
minute of the half caught us on the hop and left us trailing by a point at the
break. We scored the first point of the second half to draw level, but St.
Paul’s seemed to find a second gear and with the help of another goal, they went
into a six point lead halfway through the second half. This was the signal for
Ballycomoyle to throw everything they had at St. Paul’s, and with great
determination from the whole team we got back to within one point of our
opponents. Unfortunately, we could not get that next score and three late points
gave St. Paul’s a four point winning margin. Despite the result, each and every
player including all seven subs used can be proud of their performance. Our next
game is at home to Bunbrosna on this Wednesday evening 24th May at 7.30pm. All
players are asked to be in Ballycomoyle by 7pm (sharp).
Team:
John Coyle, Jane Coyle, Matthew Gilsenan, Thomas Bardon, Kieran Fagan, Tommy
Gallagher, Brendan O Donnell, Conor Mc Laverty, Andrew Leahy, Brendan

UNDER 8 TOURNAMENT
Our under eight team played in our first tournament of the year when they
travelled to Multyfarnham for games with St Paul’s, Streete/Multy and C/F/C/W.
Our first game gave us a narrow win over St Paul’s. We lost the second by a goal
to C/F/C/W and finished the day with a win over Street/Multy. We had a great
turnout of players with nineteen in total and all played very well. Special
thanks to Frank Gilsenan, Kevin Walsh and Maurius Reilly.

U12 Girls v Milltown
The under 12 girls are going from strength to strength. Tuesday night saw them
take on Milltown in Ballycomoyle. The weather was not any way kind to us in the
first half but with new nets on the goals the target was easy to see. A great
team performance keeps our unbeaten record in tact. It is great to see Emma
Sullivan back in action after her time out to perform in Mayhem and Madness.
Ballycomoyle team: Anne Marie Boylan, Sarah Fagan, Aoife Flynn, Emma Goodwin,

BITS 'n BOBS
As a reminder to all club members and friends, that the Irish Blood Transfusion

between 4 30 and 8 30. As blood is always very scarce, your support for this
very worthy cause would be very greatly appreciated. Well done to the Westmeath
hurlers, on their great win against Dublin in the Leinster Championship in
Portlaoise last Sunday. The northern end of the county was very well represented
and we look forward to the big match in Cusack Park in two weeks time. A special
word of thanks must go to Dermot McKenna and Seamus Coyle for setting up the new
underage goals, complete with nets, ( and also the local farmers yearly supply
of insulating tape). It is wonderful to see five pitches in use on a Friday
evening and all packed to capacity, well done lads.

JUNIOR LEAGUE
On Saturday evening last we recorded our first league win of the season over an
impressive youthful Streete/Multy side. Despite being short five of our first
team players our lads put in a huge performance. Tossy Brady, Dan Carty, Derek

and we are eagerly awaiting the next round of the championship. Training
continues each Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.30 sharp. Team that defeated Multy/Streete:
M.Reilly, D.Fagan, T.Brady, M.Gavigan, R.Fagan, D.Carty, A.Smith, B.Ryan (0.1),
M.McNicholas (0.2), D.Cunningham (0.4), D.McNiochlas (0.3), J.Williams (0.1)

LOTTO
We held a very well supported club lotto on Tuesday night of last week 23rd May,
in Comiskeys, Castlepollard. The numbers for the first draw of E 10,000 were
12,19,22,27 and the numbers for the second draw of E 3,600 were 5,8,22 and 27.
There was no jackpot winner for either draw. Our next draw will be in "The Lough
Lene Inn", Collinstown on Tuesday night next 6th June, your support as always is
greatly appreciated. Yearly lotto tickets are now available from Niall McKenna
and cost E 50 for 25 draws.
FUND-RAISING NIGHT
We are holding a major fund-raising night in Mullingar Greyhound Stadium on
Saturday night 24th June. We are currently looking for sponsorship from local
business and in case someone has not yet approached you, do not worry, you will
be contacted. As this is our major event for the year, we will be looking for
all sections of the club to put their shoulder to the wheel and try to make this
night a huge success. Tickets are now in circulation and are priced at E 10, if
a person wishes to nominate a dog this is E 20, which also includes a ticket.
More information about this fund-raiser can be obtained by contacting any of the
committee members or by logging onto our website at
www.ballycomoyle.com . We will have more news of this night as it gets
closer to the date.
SPEEDY RECOVERY
We would like to wish Barry Smyth a speedy recovery after he aggravated an old
injury from last year in the past few days. It now seems likely that Barry will
have to undergo major surgery in the near future and we wish him well. Barry has
been one of ace marksmen for the past few years and he will be missed for the
rest of the championship.
UNDERAGE NEWS
Under 12 League
verses Bunbrosna.
Our 5th game of this year’s league was at home in Ballycomoyle when we played
Bunbrosna. On the night we were too strong for our opponents and ran out winners
with a few scores to spare. This was our 3rd win out of five starts and with
just one game remaining a good result would give us a very good position in the
next stage of the league. A special word of thanks from the lads from
Collinstown how despite having their school tour made it back for the second
half. Also thanks to Alice, Jane and Sinead who played against Bunbrosna despite
the disappointment of earlier that day losing to Tyrrellspass in the Cuman na
mBun Scoil Final in Cusack Park.
Team:
John Coyle, Jane
Coyle, Matthew Gilsenan, Thomas Bardon, Kieran Fagan, Tommy Gallagher,

Cuman na mBun Scoil
As already mentioned the girls from St. Feichin’s N.S. Fore had to give way to a
very strong and skilful Tyrrellspass team in the the Cuman na mBun Scoil Final
for 3 to 4 Teacher Schools in Cusack Park last week. On the day Cusack Park
looked magnificent and because it was the first time that any of the girls had
played there, despite the defeat it was a great occasion. Great credit must go
to both Monica Fanning and Helen Coyle for the time and effort they have put
into both the boys and girls teams in St. Feichin’s. Also well done to all the
pupils parents and supporters who cheered on the team right to the final
whistle.
Congratulations
Congratulations to club member Billy Kennedy from Fore who recently received a
special award from the Irish Blood Transfusion Board at a presentation ceremony
in Kells to mark his great achievement of donating 100 pints of blood. A fitting
reward for many years of service to those less fortunate than ourselves.
Sympathy
Ballycoymoyle G.A.A. Club extents its deepest sympathy to the Dobson family
Drumcree on their recent sad loss. On many occasions Pat drove us to football
games and no mater how bad we were doing he always had words of encouragement
and praise. On the way home stopping at the shop or dropping off children at
different places was never a problem. May he rest in peace.
Eoin Fagan
Sorry for the misprint of name in last weeks under 8 team report. Great game as
always and keep up the good work!

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday last, June 11th we played our old rivals St. Paul’s in Delvin and
unfortunately we had to give way to a more clinical side on the day. Playing
against a very stiff breeze in the first half we failed to score and went in at
half time five points down. The second half was a very different affair with our
lads combining well and played some nice football. Kevin Gavigan took over the
mantle from Barry Smyth (injured) and converted three frees. The introduction of
Adrian Smith gave a much needed boost of pace to our rather subdued forward line
and in the space of a few minutes, following a good clearance from defence,
Adrian found the Paul’s net. This was to be our last score and we lost on a
scoreline of Paul’s 0.08, Ballycomoyle 1.03. It was very much re-iterated after
the game, that we have any notion of going further in this championship, then
the work will have to be put in by everyone concerned in training over the next
few weeks, this also includes selectors. On the day we were best served by
Marius Reilly, Tossy Brady, Dan Carty and Stevie Reilly. Team: M.Reilly,
M.Gavigan, T.Brady, D.Clogher, R, Fagan, D.Carty, S.Reilly, B.Ryan, M.Mc
Nicholas J.Williams, D.McNicholas, D.Cunningham, S.Farrelly, D.Cheevers,
K.Gavigan. Subs: Alan Smith, Adrian Smith, D.Fagan, E.Kiernan, P.Molloy,
N.Morgan, I.Coyle, C. McCormack, D.Nolan, N.McKenna, N.McCormack.
JUNIOR "B"
CHAMPIONSHIP
On Tuesday evening 30th May we played Ballinagore in the second round of this
championship at home in Ballycomoyle. This game again was a great opportunity
for some of our younger lads to get a chance to play competitive football. The
game was very close throughout and a lack of penetration in the forward line
proved costly in the end as we were defeated by three points. On the night
Roaney Fagan was a tower of strength and notched up three points for himself.
Team: N.McKenna, D.Clogher, E.Kiernan, D.Fagan, R.Fagan (.03) M.Gavigan, A.Smith,
T.Brady, S.Farrelly, P.Molloy, D.Nolan, I.Coyle (0.01), P.Smyth (0.01),
C.McCormack, P.Dermody, D.Cheevers, B.Ryan (0.02), R.Farrelly, D.O Rourke,
N.Morgan, E.Boylan.
LOTTO
Our most recent club lotto was held on Tuesday night last 6th June in "The Lough
Lene Inn", Collinstown. This draw was very well supported and the numbers drawn
were as follows- Draw No. 1 E 10,000 , 3,4,5,19, there was no winner. Draw No. 2
E 3,800- 23,25,27 and 28 and again there was no winner, the E 30 winners were as
follows Sean McEoin, Alice Murphy, Jimmy Finglas, John Gilsenan (Lake View) and
Derek McGee. The next draw takes place on Tuesday night next 20th June in "The
Abbey House", Fore and again there will be two draws, no 1 E 10,000 and no. 2 E
4,000. Your support as always is greatly appreciated.
MAJOR FUNDRAISER
Saturday night 24th June is a date for everyone to keep free in their diary, as
this is the night that we are holding a very special fundraising night in
Mullingar Greyhound Stadium. We are pleading with all sections of the club to
put their shoulder to the wheel and to try and make this night a success.
Tickets are now in circulation and cost just E10, or if you wish to nominate a
dog this will cost E20. Further information regarding this night can be obtained
by logging on to our fantastic website at
www.ballycomoyle.com or by ringing Doreen at 087-9268049 or John at
086-2667011.It is important that everyone gets behind the club for this night as
this is our only major fund-raiser for the year.
UNDERAGE NEWS
North Westmeath
Under 10 league versus Finea:
Our first game in this year’s tournament was played last Tuesday in Ballycomoyle
when we hosted Castletown Finea Coole Whitehall. With a lot of new players in
this grade, our selectors started with an experimental line-out and it took a
while for the team to settle down. Finea had a great start, and after 15 minutes
we found ourselves 1-3 to no score behind. On the stroke of half time we were
awarded a penalty, which was dispatched excellently by Adrian Leahy, to leave us
just 3 points behind at half time. Ballycomoyle brought on 3 subs at the start
of the second half (Conor lynch, James Bardon and Marcus Kennedy) and they made
an immediate impression helping us to compete better in all areas of the field.
Despite Finea getting another point, the lads kept going and after a great move
between Jack Coyle, Alan Jennings and Conor McCrossan, was sent to the back of
the net once again by Adrian Leahy, to leave us just a point behind going into
the last five minutes. However, the last score of the game was a Finea point to
see them run out worthy winners by two points.
With two extra clubs
in this year’ competition, each team will have seven games so there is still
lots to play for. Our next game will be at home in Ballycomoyle to Bunbrosna.
Team on the day:
Conor McCossan Owen Connell Jack Coyle Adrian Leahy Kevin O Brien Ryan Farrelly
Warren Williams Conor lynch Daniel Higgins Mark McCormack James Bardon Ciaran
Lynch Nathan Clarke Richard Clogher Alan Jennings Niall McComack Sean Lancaster
Andrew Keating Daniel Reilly Dylan Smith Marcus Kennedy Jordan Williams Daniel

North Westmeath
Under 10 league versus Bunbrosna
We played our second game in the North Westmeath league when we hosted Bunbrosna
in Ballycomoyle on Friday last. Unfortunately, due to time restraints, we had to
play on this date which left us without the service of all our Collinstown
players. This however gave Gerry and Liam an opportunity to try out new players,
and in what turned out to be a close and very exciting game they all played very
well. Bunbrosna started brightly and scored the first two points, before Adrian
Leahy found the back of the net to put us into the lead for the first time by
one point which we held until half time. The second half was every bit as
exciting as the first with only a point separating the teams at any one time.
And in fact with the last kick of the game, Bunbrosna got a great chance when
they shot narrowly wide with only the goalkeeper to beat. However, Ballycomoyle
held on to win by two points and secure our first success in this year’
competition. Our star man was undoubtedly Ciaran Fagan who covered every blade
of grass in what was a fine display from the young midfielder. However, he was
not alone and his midfield partner Eoin Connell, goalkeeper Robin Burns and
backs Kevin O Brien and Jack Coyle were all excellent. Unfortunately, the full
team sheet is not available at time of going to press. Great to see Paul
McCrossan adding his name to the under 10 management team and hopefully we will
see some of the famous Tyrone blanket defence in the coming weeks.
Under 12 girls:
Well done to our under 12 girls who maintained their 100 percent record with a
hard fought away win to Rochfortbridge last week. And also our under 14 girls
who despite losing to St Paul’s in Ballycomoyle gave one of their best
performances of the year so far. P.S. Congratulations to Grace McKenna who
celebrates her 14th birthday on 19th June.
St Michaels under
14:
St Michaels continued on their winning ways with a comprehensive victory over
Casdtledaly in Ballycomoyle last Sunday. If we can get good results in our
remaining two games we will be very much in the shake up for the league title.
Walk in Mulllaghmeen:
Once we have our very important fundraising Night at the Dogs in Mullingar out
of the way, we will be ale to give full details of our annual walk in
Mullaghmeen. With different walks to suit all ages this can be a great day out
for all the family. This year we are hoping to bring everyone to the highest
point in Westmeath, which is located in the forestry complex. More details soon.
Blood Transfusion:
Thanks to all club members who donated blood at the recent clinic in
Castlepollard recently. Great to see Jennifer Cooney, Damien Clogher and Damien
Fagan, who under the watchful eye of Tossie Brady donated for the first time.
Keep up the good work folks and thanks again.
Football Summer
Camp:
Ballycomoyle have provisionally booked a bus to bring their members to the
football summer camp in Delvin, which starts on Monday the 31st July and
finishes on Friday 4th August. The bus will collect players, both boys and
girls, starting in Castlepollard and then on to Fore, Collinstown and straight
into Delvin. The cost will be determined by how many players are on the bus and
please book early because we are restricted to approx. thirty players. For
further details please contact the under age secretary, Dermot McKenna at 044
9661805.

MAJOR FUNDRAISER
All roads lead to Mullingar Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night next 24th June,
where we are holding our major fundraiser for the year. The night promises to be
an enjoyable occasion and we are urging all our supporters, young and old, to
come and support us on the night. Tickets are still available up until the
actual night and can be obtained from any of the committee members and they are
priced at E 10, it would be greatly appreciated if people could return money for
tickets prior to the night. We look forward to seeing you there.
JUNIOR "B"
CHAMPIONSHIP
On Tuesday evening of last week our "B" squad made their way to Streamstown to
play St. Josephs in this competition. After a very enjoyable game of football
our opponents came out on top by a margin of 2 points, a lack of accuracy
upfront, in the second half proved costly to us in the end. We are scheduled to
play Milltown in the fourth round of this competition, tonight Wednesday 21st in
Ballycomoyle at 7.30 pm. Everyone involved is requested to be in the park no
later than 7 pm. Team that was defeated by St. Josephs: N McKenna, N.McCormack,
E. Kiernan, D.Fagan (0.01), G.Farrelly, A. Smith (capt), S.Reilly, T.Brady,
R.Fagan (1.01), P.Molloy (0.02), S.Farrelly, J.Corrigan, D.Cheevers (1.02),
D.Nolan (0.01), C.McCormack, P.Cooney, R.Farrelly, I.Coyle, O.Boylan, C.Ring,
N.Morgan, P.Dermody.
JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Yet again we head to Delvin on Sunday next 25th June, when at 2 pm, we face
Multy in the third round of this years championship. This game will be a tough
encounter and even though we defeated them earlier on in the year, we are
expecting a much tighter affair on Sunday. Again we are requesting that everyone
involved should be at the venue no later than 1 pm. Full report next week.

JUNIORS SECURE POINTS IN CHAMPIONSHIP
Our Junior team secured their first win in the preliminary round of the junior
championship for two years. It almost seems impossible that even though we
contested the semi-final last year, we have not had an actual win in the
preliminary round of the championship in over two years. Our win on Sunday last,
came as a result of us overcoming a very fit and well prepared St. Fintans/
Multy side. The game was very evenly contested throughout and luckily enough we
had enough of a cushion built up in the first half to see us emerge victors by a
margin of three points. We went in at half time with a lead of 1.06 to 0.03, and
we knew that we were in for a "battle royale" in the second half. Our opponents
came out after the interval with all guns blazing and we had to dig deep to keep
our lead intact, this we did and the final score read- 1.09 to 0.09. We are
delighted with this result but we know that we have immense work left to do and
that it is going to take a massive effort from everyone to keep our championship
dreams alive. On the day we were probably best served by the hardworking Tossy
Brady, Roaney Fagan and Derek Cheevers. Team that defeated St.Fintans/Multy:
M.Reilly, M.Gavigan, T.Brady, D.Clougher, R.Fagan, D.Carty, S.Reilly, M.
McNicholas (0.01), B.Ryan (0.02), J.Williams, D.Mc Nicholas, P.Cooney,
D.Cunningham (capt)(0.04), D.Cheevers (1.02), S. McEoin, Adrian Smith, K.Gavigan,
G.Farrelly, D.Fagan, A.Smith, E.Kiernan, O.Boylan, C.Mc Cormack, N.Morgan,
N.McCormack, N. McKenna.
NEW SET OF JERSEYS
Prior to the start of the game on Sunday last, Niall McKenna of "McEnroe
McKenna & Co.", presented the club with a new set of jerseys to the junior
team. The jerseys are now sporting the new club crest which was designed by our
own clubman Ciaran Ring. We would like to thank Niall and Co. for their generous
donation and wish them the best of luck in their business for many years to
come.
CLUB CREST
As mentioned above our new club crest was designed by Ciaran Ring. On our crest
Ciaran brought together three images, firstly St. Brigid's Cross which
represents St.Brigid's Well on top of the Hill of Maoil, from which our name
derives. Secondly Ciaran put in a sketch of Stonetown Bridge which represents
the original birthplace of Ballycomoyle Football Club. Finally Ciaran put in a
sketch of Fore Abbey which represents the entire community from which many
people have been associated with down through the years. Full credit must go to
Ciaran for a job well done and we look forward to Ciaran's next task within the
club (pro, chairman, etc, etc)
LOTTO
On Tuesday night last 20th June we held a very well supported club lotto in "The
Abbey House", Fore. The numbers drawn were as follows: Draw No.1- E 10,000
5,10,19 and 26, there was no winner. Draw No.2- E 4,000 4,12,26 and 27, again

Clune, Jimmy Ward, Jimmy Fagan and Sean Óg Doyne. Our next draw will be in "Farrelly's",
Castlepollard on Tuesday 4th July and as always your support is greatly
appreciated.
FUNDRAISER
Saturday night last saw us holding our first ever "Dog Night" in Mullingar
Greyhound Stadium. The night was a huge financial success to the club and we
would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported us in this
venture. The weather was perfect on the night for the large crowd that attended.
From all accounts, a lot of the adults were not so lucky on the betting front
but some of the younger folk were very lucky indeed. The night was most
enjoyable and we would to thank Pat Flynn and all in the Stadium for their
hospitality and we wish them continued success in their business. To the hard
working committee behind this venture, we will be forever indebted to you, a
special word of thanks must go to Helen and Seamus Coyle for putting together
such a wonderful commemorative booklet, fair dues. Finally we would like to
thank Paddy Egan for his input into the night, which left our efforts a lot less
leading up to the night. Thanks again to everyone.

JUNIOR CUP
We made a dismal exit to the Junior Cup competition at the hands of a well
prepared St. Fintans/Multy side on Sunday evening last in Ballycomoyle. From the
start we knew we had an uphill battle on our hands as we were short five of our
regular first team players, however those who were playing on the day tried
hard, but were defeated by a scoreline of 2.06 to 0.06. It was very evident on
the evening that we have a lot of work left to do both on the players end of
things and also on the selectors side of things. We are possibly playing
championship this weekend coming and everyone is advised to check press for
details, training is on Wednesday night at 7.45 sharp. Team that was defeated by
Multy: M.Reilly, M.Gavigan, T.Brady, M.Gavigan, G.Farrelly, R.Fagan (0.01),

19th anniversary of his 21st last weekend. We are told that there was a party in

JUNIOR
CHAMPIONSHIP
On Sunday evening last we were very unlucky not to have secured a win against a
very physical Milltown side. We started without three our regular starting

Maurice Gavigan through injury. Overall the team played well and with a bit more
work we are very hopeful of reaching the semi-finals. Training has switched back
to its usual Tuesday and Thursday nights and everyone is expected to be in the
park no later than 7.45 pm. Team that was defeated by Milltown: M.Reilly,

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
On Saturday evening last we earned another two points in the championship race
at the expense of a very spirited Delvin side. We were very fortunate to come
away with the spoils as our overall performance was somewhat off par. We
welcomed Barry Smyth back onto the team as he is making a remarkable recovery
from his serious knee operation only a few short weeks ago. Barry opened the
scoring on Saturday evening with a pointed free. Following on from this David
Cunningham demonstrated a captain’s role by opening up the Delvin defence and
blasting to the roof of the net. We then exchanged scores and the second half
was a very lively affair and after some quite wayward shooting we ended up
winners on a scoreline of 1.09 to 0.07. On the evening one man in particular
stood out from everyone else and that was Roaney Fagan, Roaney dislocated his
toe moments prior to the game and was unable to start, however, Roaney in the
second half endured the pain and came on for the last twenty minutes. He made an
immediate impact when introduced and we must salute him for his efforts. Our
final game in this opening round of the championship takes place in Springfield
on Tuesday evening next 29th at 7 pm. We are urging everyone to come and lend
their support as this is a crunch game for both ourselves and Loughnavalley.
Team that defeated Delvin: M.Reilly, M.Gavigan, E.Kiernan, D.Fagan, G.Farrelly,
D.Carty, S.Reilly, B.Ryan (0.03,1f) T.Brady J.Williams, M.Mc Cormack, P.Smyth,

CHAMPIONSHIP
On Tuesday evening of last week 29th August, our junior team earned a place in
the quarter final of this year’s championship by merit of a comprehensive
victory over a downhearted Loughnavalley side. This game was predicted to be a
close affair but it certainly did not live up to expectation. Both sides started
very well but after the first ten minutes, one could see that our opponents were
in trouble. We went in at half time leading by 1.07 to 0.01and by the end of the
game we finished 2.12 to 0.02 ahead. It was a very good result but we know that
we still have a lot of improvement to do ahead of this quarter final clash
against a very strong Mullingar Shamrocks side who have some senior experience
behind them. This clash is provisionally set for next Saturday evening and as of
yet the venue has not been decided. We would like to thank all the people that
supported us in Springfield and hopefully we will see everyone again at this
upcoming match, check press for details of time and venue. Team that defeated
Loughnavalley: M.Reilly, M.Gavigan, E.Kiernan, D.Fagan, J.Williams, D.Carty,

follows Miriam Coyle, Barney Smith, Martin O' Neill, Leslie Whyte and Valerie Mc
Dermot. The next draw takes place on Tuesday night next 12th September in "Meehans",
Coole. Your support as always is greatly appreciated and remember "if you're not

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
All roads lead to Delvin on Saturday evening next 16th September, where we take
on a fancied Mullingar Shamrocks side in the quarter final of this year’s
championship. This game promises to be a very evenly contested affair with a
date against Milltown in the semi-final at stake. We are urging people to come
out and support us on the evening and play their part in hopefully seeing our
side progress to the next stage. Joey and the selectors are quite happy with the
way training has gone in the last few weeks and all that we can do at this stage
is to wish the entire squad the best of luck for Saturday. We would also like to
thank Tossy Brady for altering his holiday to suit the game on Saturday evening.
UNDERAGE TRAINING
Our underage training is drawing to an end on Friday evening next 15th. It has
been decided that we will run some games for the different age groups among
themselves, commencing at 6.30 sharp and to finish off, we will have light
refreshments served. Everyone that was involved in any way throughout the course
of the year is invited to attend and take part and even if some people have
lapsed from training in the past few weeks, please come on the evening. For
further information regarding this please contact either Dermot, Helen or Gerry.
UNDER 12 BOYS
Under 12 football
League V Moate
Having finished the first section of this year's league with win's over
Milltownpass, St Loman's Blue’s, Bunbrosna and Streete Multy and narrow defeats
to Mullingar Shamrock's and St Paul's, we were paired with Moate, The Down’s and
Garrycastle for the second phase. Our first game was at home to Moate and it
proved to be one of our best performances of the year. The game was played on a
perfect evening and this was reflected in the quality of the football displayed
by both teams. We started brightly, scoring the first three points, but Moate
soon found their rhythm and at halftime we trailed by two points. In the second
half two goal's from our excellent centre-half forward John Egan gave us the
lead that we held until the very last kick of the game when a Moate point earned
the visitors a share of the spoil's with a final score of Ballycomoyle 2 - 5
Moate 1-8
BALLYCOMOYLE U12 V
THE DOWNS
Once again we had home advantage when we played the Downs and in this we really
found out that a game is never over until the final whistle. In the first half
we played fantastic football and built up a lead of seven points before our
influential midfielder Tommy Gallagher got injured and had to be replaced. In
the second-half the Downs slowly chipped away at our lead and caught us at the
very end to win by 3 point's. Despite the defeat this was a great performance
and it must be remembered that we were without the services of five of our
regular starting fifteen and for this, great credit must go to all the panel who
played their part on the day. I have rarely sat in a dressing room after a game
at any level and seen such genuine disappointment on the face's of all
concerned. They had given their all and had just come up short. If as a team we
can continue to show this level of spirit and determination the future of
Ballycomoyle is bright indeed.
BALLYCOMOYLE U12 V
GARRYCASTLE
For our final game we made the journey to Athlone to play Garrycastle last
Friday night. A total number of 24 players travelled, two for the first time
-Alan Jennings and Adrian Leahy who have recently moved up from our under 10
team. We started very well and with the help of our excellent free taker John
Coyle we took a four point lead. But this was a strong and skilful Garrycastle
team and they slowly got into their stride and pulled away to lead by 7 points
at half time. We made nine changes at half time as we insisted, that like in
every game we played this year, every player got as much time on the pitch as
possible. Despite all the changes we closed the gap to just 3 points and it is
hard to know whether the two brilliant saves by Conor Mc Laverty or the wonder
goal scored in his first match by Adrian leahy was the highlight. As darkness
fell we played the final ten minutes under floodlights (a first for
Ballymoycoyle Under 12's) and by the finish Garrycastle had stretched their lead
by 6 points. This defeat could not take away from another brilliant team
performance and to celebrate we stopped in Supermacs Moate for some well
deserved refreshments.
As this maybe our
last under 12 game for this year I would like to thank all the girls and boys
who made up our under 12 panel this year. Having lost so many of last year’s
players we thought this would be a difficult year, but it proved to be quite the
opposite. From the beginning of the year we have great numbers at both training
and games and there was not a wrong word between any of the players from
beginning to end. Time keeping for games and behaviour on buses and to our
opponents was first class.
Well done to all
concerned. To the parents who came to the games both home and away, thank you
very much, it really means at lot. To Larry who made many trips down from Dublin
and Helen who was always there when we needed a helping hand, to Declan Gaffney
a selector with the Cavan Under 16 team who came to Ballycomoyle with his tackle
bags and ladders and showed us how training can improve our skills and be fun at
the same time. Thanks also to Johnny Corrigan who gave us a great day out at
Pollard Karting and to anybody who helped in any way to make this a most
successful and enjoyable year for our Under 12 football team.
UNDER 12 GIRLS
Ballycomoyle 2-4 The Downs 1-4
Tuesday 5th September saw our under 12 girls in their third final in a row.
There were great expectations that amends were going to be made for the
disappointment of the pervious years. The team played against the wind in the
first half and that coupled with strong opposition saw them in arrears at half
time The Downs 1-2 Ballycomoyle 0-1. There were a few positional changes made at
half time. A tense and exciting second half saw the girls work hard in every
corner of the field, Jane Coyle scoring a point shortly after the interval and
then after ten minutes came the goal from Sinead Connell to draw level. Shortly
after that came another point to go ahead. A spell of severe pressure ensued
from The Downs which saw them level the game once again. With ten minutes to go
Sinead hit the target with a superbly taken goal. But the game wasn't over at
that. Anne Marie Boylan had to pull off a crucial
save to deny The Downs from drawing level. The Downs did, however, hit target
to put just two points between the teams. The girls from Ballycomoyle played
with greater determination and urgency as the game went on. One last point from
Bal ensured the
victory. Great credit is due to each and every one of these players that never
tired during the game and gave of their very best throughout the game, showing
great character in the second half to come from behind and win the game. Thanks
to all the supporters who made the trip to St. Lomans to cheer these girls on.
It was great to see such a huge attendance (even if some were delayed with the
traffic on the way in to the pitch). Team: Anne Marie Boylan, Emma Sullivan,
Aoife Flynn, Emma Goodwin, Maria Henry, Alice Murphy, Anne Marie Kennedy, Jane
Coyle, Sinéad Connell, Aoife Gallagher, Rebecca Flood, Tara Kennedy, Alanna
Clogher, Mamie O'Reilly, Niamh Clogher. Caoimhe McCrossan, Kelly Coyle, Ruth
Mulligan, Shannon Farrelly, Sarah Fagan, Ciara Walsh, Saoirse Farrelly, Katie
Egan, Marie Egan. Following the presentation of the Seán Coyle Perpetual Cup to
captain Jane Coyle, the team made a very noisy entrance to Castlepollard for a
well deserved meal in McCormack's. Well done girls.

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
We unfortunately made a sad exit from this years junior championship at the
hands of a very strong Mullingar Shamrocks side played in Delvin on Saturday
evening last. With our recent form, we were expected to go as far as the final
this year but fate dealt us a huge blow and took the wind out of our sails. A
culmination of nerves, lack of speed in some areas and lack of a plan of attack,
left us chasing our opponents for the entire game. It was obvious from early on
that the senior experience on the Shamrocks side, proved to be a huge boost to
them, as time after time we were found wanting in several key areas. Overall, we
were naturally gutted after the match and even more so when our long serving
custodian, Marius Reilly, declared his intention to call it a day. Marius has
served our club with great dignity and pride since he joined us almost sixteen
years ago and we must congratulate and salute him for his outstanding service
since then. He was a pillar in defence and always gave encouragement to his
backline and kept them on their toes. His retirement has left a huge void for us
to try and fill and who knows what next year might bring. At this stage, all
that is left for us to do is to thank the entire panel of players, selectors,
physic’s and the ladies for supplying the tea and sandwiches, for putting in
such a big effort during the year and as I already said maybe we will be there
in the final come this time next year. Last but not least we like to say a
massive thank you to Joey Williams who put in such huge effort all year in
training the team and for his dedication to our cause, I was reliably informed
that since the start of the year we have had over 90 training sessions including
games and Joey has never missed one. This has got to be a record we must salute
you for this.
UNDERAGE
Our underage training came to an end on Friday evening last with several games
in the different age groups taking place. It was wonderful to see so many people
there on the evening and it is reported that there was over ninety children
present on the evening. The children were all presented with a medal to honour
their participation throughout the year and light refreshments were served also.
We would like again to thank everyone involved with the underage during the year
and hopefully we will be able to carry the enthusiasm and spirit through to next
year. Keep an eye on the notes for upcoming events or log onto our superb
website.

"The Lough Lene Inn", Collinstown. The night started with some video footage
from a few years ago and some from this year’s championship and this was very
well received. We must thank Olly and Stephen Gallagher for putting the video
together and for doing such a wonderful job on it. We decided to raffle the hurl
and football that was signed by Sean Og O hAlpin and we are delighted to say
that a quite considerable sum of money was raised in the raffle, thank you for
your support. We would most sincerely like to thank Kathryn Cooney and all the
staff of the Lough Lene Inn for their hospitality on the night and to Angie Mc
Hale for preparing the food, everyone concerned ensured that nobody was either
hungry or thirsty....!!!!!. Following on from this night, I believe that Noel
Smith and Seamus Fay are very interested in competing in Senior Scor in the
Ballad Group..

Seamus McDermott who stood in for Dermot McKenna as "Fear an Ti", at very short
notice. Seamus done a wonderful job on the night and ensured that everything ran
smoothly. Finally to our Scor Secretary Doreen Farrelly and Catherine Daly who
had the mammoth task of preparing our different acts, we must say well done and
ensuring that we don’t forget the parents that also helped out at the practise
sessions Claire Coyle, Micheal Fagan and Helen Coyle, thank you to all
concerned.
UNDERAGE TRIP
On Monday last 30th October we took our underage section of the club on their
annual trip and after the unforgettable day that we had last year in Croke Park
we thought that it would be hard to match this excitement.......However, we did
manage to do this, and we did so in some style. At 8am on Monday morning two
luxury coaches, with 80 children and 20 adults on board, departed Castlepollard
and headed North towards Belfast and its wonderful Odyssey Centre which houses
W5( Who,What,Where,When,Why). This centre was a huge hit with everyone both
young and old as there was so much to do and see, it is unbelievable. It comes
highly recommended for anyone to go visit and I know of several families who
have vowed to go back in the near future for another visit. After about 4 hours
here we headed back to the Carrickdale Hotel in Dundalk for a superb meal and
afterwards we took everyone to the Cinema where there were films to suit all age
groups. Finally after our enjoyable stop in Dundalk we arrived back in
Castlepollard at about 10.30 pm. We must thank all those who made the day
possible(especially Dermot and Seamus) and for giving the children such
fantastic memories and the only problem is now......where could you possibly go
next year to match this year......we will leave that for another day. Thanks
again to all concerned.
SYMPATHY
The Ballycomoyle Football Club would like to convey its deepest sympathies to
relatives, family and friends of the late Kathleen Kennedy, Ballycomoyle.
Kathleen was in her 105 th year and
she will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. We
must also extend our deepest sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of
the late Anne Smyth, Colinstown. Anne was formerly the Principal of Collinstown
N.S. and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The huge attendance at
both the removal and funeral bore testament to the high esteem in which Anne was
held.
A.G.M.
Just a quick reminder to everyone that we are holding our A.G.M. in the Parish
Centre, Castlepollard on Sunday 19th November at 2.30 pm sharp. At this stage
all club members should have received their nomination papers and we would ask
that these would be returned to Doreen as soon as possible. Included in the
letters that were sent out there are yearly lotto tickets and we would be
hopeful that some people will take this oppturinity to ensure that their numbers
will be included in every draw for the future. If anyone has any queries
regarding any of the above please contact Doreen on the club phone at
087-9268049.

the semi-finals. We will be represented by the following: Ceile Dancing-- Marie
Egan, Katie Egan, Bi-Bi O'Reilly, Jane Coyle, Kelly Coyle, Saoirse Farrelly,

through to the county finals.
A.G.M.
It’s that time of the year again and yes we are holding our A.G.M. on Sunday

This year we are including our Ladies and our Underage sections in the overall

been sent out to all members and we are reminded to have these back to Doreen on
or before Friday 17th. We had a very busy year this year and no doubt we will be
discussing the highlights on Sunday next. Everyone is invited to attend and we
look forward to seeing you all there on Sunday.
WEBSITE
Our website is going from strength to strength and I get hard to find the words
to thank our webmaster Seamus Coyle, for all the work that he puts into it. Our
site is without doubt one of the best in G.A.A. circles in the country and is
well worth a visit, it can be accessed at
www.ballycomoyle.com . The site is very easy to navigate and a quick look
through the photos page will definitely put a smile on your face, one photo
dates back to 1965 and some of the persons in it are quite easily identified.
Other photos would show lads like David Cunningham, Maurice Gavigan etc when
they were U12 and U14 (interesting). So if you do have a moment to spare
sometime, log on and you will not be disappointed. More recent photos are of our
underage trip to Belfast and of the first round of Scór na nOg which we hosted
in Collinstown Hall. Fair dues to you Seamus, keep up the marvellous work....

A.G.M.
On Sunday last we held our A.G.M. in The Parish Centre, Castlepollard and this

of the previous A.G.M. read and adopted. Then followed a very concise and
detailed report from our club secretary Doreen Farrelly. Doreen must be
congratulated for this wonderful report (which can be viewed on our website),
and for all her hard work and dedication throughout the year. Anne Dermody then
gave an equally impressive financial report, clearly detailing our income and
expenditure throughout the past year. Anne must also be congratulated for her
wonderful work and dedication throughout the year also. Our outgoing Chairman,
John Smyth then gave his address and also indicated that he would not be seeking
re-election. We must pay tribute to John for all his endeavours during the past
years and we must thank him most sincerely for his endless work rate and
striving to make the club as good as it is today. Thank you John. Our Underage
Secretary, Dermot Mc Kenna gave his account of all the underage action and
indeed there was quite a lot of this. Our P.R.O. gave a very brief report and

SCÓR na NOG
For the first time in many years we were represented in the Scór na nOg finals,
which were held in Ballymore on Sunday evening last. Hillary Gaffney and Cían
Farrelly took part in the Instrumental Music and despite a wonderful
performance, they did not secure the laurels of victory on this occasion. The
entire club would like to thank both Cían and Hillary for their participation in
Scór and for all the hard word that they done for the past few weeks. We hope
that we will have both these talented musicians back again next year. Finally we
would again like to thank absolutely everyone who had anything to do with our
Scór na nÓg this year and hopefully we can build on this year’s performance into
the future
Ladies Junior Team
Our
junior ladies team took on old rivals St. Paul’s in the Junior Shield semi final
recently. This was a hard fought game with many great performances from
individuals and a very spirited team performance. Ballycomoyle led by two
points at half time but two lucky goals from St. Paul’s saw that lead fade
before Ballycomoyle raised the tempo again to bring the final score Ballycomoyle
2-4 St. Paul’s 3-2. Hard luck on the result girls but well done on a fine
performance. Welcome back to Sinead Kilmurray, Joanne Walsh and Orla Doolin
who have spent the last year out of the country. We hope ye have all the
travelling out of your systems now. Also to Aisling Farrelly who has just
recovered from a recent operation. We are looking forward to seeing you all out
again next year. We wish Joanne a speedy recovery from her injury sustained in
the early part of the game.Ballycomoyle Team: Sarah Boylan, Ciara Tiernan,
Libby Hannon, Jenny Cooney, Martina Murphy, Siobhan Murphy, Tracy Weldon, Orla
Doolin, Joanne Walsh, Aisling Farrelly, Sinead Kilmurray, Ruth Daniels, Clodagh
O’Neill, Karen Coyle, Cariosa O’Neill, Shauna Boyne.
Girls Under 10 team:
The first outing of
our Under 10 girls’ team was to take part in a Blitz in Rochfortbridge. In all
they played 4 games. This was their first time playing as a team but they
looked like they had always been playing together. They finished up with one
win, one draw and two defeats. It was a long day for these very young girls but
they never gave up in any game. With such great talent coming up the future of
the ladies in Ballycomoyle is bright. It was a great day out, and inspite of
the fact that we were wondering in the morning if the blitz was going to be
called off due to rain, the weather held fine for us, with sunshine for most of
the day. Well done to all concerned. Thanks to all the parents who supported
and helped out with the team on the day.
Ballycomoyle Panel:
Kelly Coyle, Alanna Clogher, Ruth Mulligan, Caoimhe McCrossan, Anne-Marie
Kennedy, Shannon Farrelly, Fiona Lawlor Sarah Fagan, Ciara Walsh, Saoirse
Farrelly, Emma Carter, Breen O’Reilly, Marie Egan, Katie Egan.
CHRISTMAS GIFTS
SORTED !
An ingenious suggestion by Seamus and Helen Coyle might just prove to be a
life-line to all those people who are tossing their brains, wondering what
Christmas present to get for a particular person. The idea was - why not buy a
Ballycomoyle Yearly Lotto Ticket. We are after designing a voucher to the value
of E 50 with four blank spaces on it and when the recipient of the voucher fills
in their lucky numbers and returns it to either Doreen or Helen; they will
automatically be entered in the next lotto draw and thereafter for the entire
year. Vouchers are available from Sunday next 3rd December from either Doreen
Farrelly 087-9268049 or Helen Coyle 087-2207374. The "male" folk are however
warned that this voucher may only be used merely as stocking filler for their
wives, girlfriends or fiancée. We are hopeful of a huge response to this novel
idea and with the chance of winning in excess of E 16,000 at the moment, it
seems like "the perfect gift".
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations are extended to Michael Farrelly (beardy mickshin) who
celebrated a big birthday in fine style on Saturday night last at a local
establishment in our neighbouring County Meath. I am not one to give away
secrets especially about age, but all that I can say is that he celebrated the
39th anniversary of his 21st. A huge crowd attended on the night and I am told
that it was well into the "wee" hours before it finished.

BUMPER CHRISTMAS
LOTTO DRAW
On Friday night next we are holding our annual bumper Christmas lotto draw in "Comiskey's",
Castlepollard. Tickets are on sale from our usual outlets but just in case that
all are sold out, please contact our club secretary @ 087-9268049, to ensure
that you are in with a chance of winning. Our jackpots now stand at E 10,000 for
the first draw and E 6,600 for the second draw, along with these we have
numerous prize's on the night including turkey’s, ham's, spirit's, voucher's
etc., so be warned, "if you're not in you can't win". Our recently launched idea
of "The Ideal Christmas Gift", which is a E 50 voucher for our yearly lotto, has
really been a huge success and many people are availing of the opportunity to
ease some of the pressure of trying to get something for somebody who seems to
have everything. The voucher enables the recipient to be included for every draw
for the entire year and with the jackpot’s now in excess of E 16,000, it is
indeed an ideal gift. Gift voucher's are still available from Doreen @ 087-
9268049 or Helen @ 087-2207374 and these will be available right up until 10 pm
on Christmas Eve. We hope to see a huge crowd at our draw on Friday night next
and the lotto will be getting underway at 10 pm (approx.).
GREETINGS
The Ballycomoyle Football Club would like to wish all it's members, player's and
supporter's a joyful, peaceful and safe Christmas and a very Happy New Year. We
would most sincerely like to thank everyone who helped out in any way during the
year and we hope to see everyone again next year, with as much enthusiasm as
they showed this year and who knows what "silverware" the new year may bring.
CONGRATULATIONS
The entire club would like to extend its deepest congratulations to Dessie and
Mags Carter on the birth of their baby son on Monday morning last. Des and Mags
are very highly respected members of our club and we wish them the best of luck
