On
Friday September 11th 2009 we held the finals of the inaugural
Ballycomoyle 7-a-side tournament. This tournament was held in honour
of two great Ballycomoyle people who had died during the previous
year. The men’s tournament was for the Paddy Masterson Cup. Paddy,
who died in September 2008 in a traffic accident, was a former
player and great friend to Ballycomoyle. The ladies tournament was
for the Kathleen Corrigan Cup. Kathleen, with her brothers Paddy &
Seán Kennedy and husband Bill have been associated with the
Ballycomoyle club since its foundation. The finals were played in
sporting fashion between four great teams. First up were the ladies
of Coralstown/Kinnegad against our own Ballycomoyle ladies junior
team. Coralstown/Kinnegad emerged victorious from this encounter.
The men of Castletown Finea Coole Whitehall then took on Mountnugent
in the second final of the evening. After a close game the Cavan men
took the laurels.
This tournament was played as part of our cultural weekend which
included a gala traditional music concert in Coole Hall on Saturday
night the 12th and our spectacular sports day on Sunday 13th. These
events captured the imagination of the entire community and we hope
they will become an annual fixture in the Club calendar.
