St Michael’s 3-8
The Downs 0-8 The
North Westmeath young footballers of Ballycomoyle & Finea/Whitehall started the
season where they left off last Sept. Having won last years u16 championship and
reaching the final in the U14 section ,last Sat they had convincing wins
against the Downs and St Mary’s Rochfordbridge. In testing underfoot conditions
they overcame a battling DOWNS side that never gave up the chase, on a score of
3-8 to 0-8.
There were many excellent performers throughout the field, but star performances
were given by Mark Coyne at midfield Tommy Gallagher in goals who dealt ably
with many dangerous shots at goal. They were ably supported by David Higgins &
Alan Fitzsimons who gave solid performances in the backs & Shane Fagan at
midfield. In the forward division all six forwards adopted well to the
conditions and Kenny Lord, Paddy Cheevers, Glen Flynn and Conor Barry were a
constant threat to the opposition.
