Match reports
By Andy McEoin
Match Sunday 2nd March 2008
St Michael’s 4-5
The Downs 1-4
On
Sun morning last we had a full turn-out panel of 24 on the Bus to play the
Downs U-14s. where they gave a sparkling performance to win 4-5 to 1-4. Again
we had many fine performances throughout the field but none better than Tommy
Gallagher, Chris Lawlor and Emmet Corrigan. Well done to all the panel. We wish
to thank all our players, and not forgetting our Managers, selectors
and co-ordinator in chief Ned Flynn for the great turn-out at the start of the
season.

St. Michael's played the Downs in the final of this
competition in Springfield on October 1st at 12.30pm. The game was one of
the best games of football witnessed at any grade for the entire season
needing to go to extra time to get a winner. Every player on both teams gave
everything that was asked of them and a lot more. Normal time saw each team
with an impressive 4-6 each (enough to win most games). In the first half of
extra time St. Michael's scored a point and The Downs replied with a goal in
the second period. These 2 points were all that separated the two teams in a
game that everyone present agreed could have gone either way. |

Daniel Devine plays Croke
Park 2006 |
 |
Daniel Devine pictured above who
plays for St. Michael's Under 14s was proud to represent St. Feichin's
National School, Fore in Croke Park on Sunday May 14th 2006 in the mini-sevens
game. He with his colleagues from various schools in the County played at
half-time in the Westmeath V Offaly Leinster championship game.
Daniel, who played for Ballycomoyle under 12s last year was a strong
defender on the St. Feichin's N.S. team who reached the county quarter-final
of this years Cuman na mBun Scoil competition for three and four teacher
schools.
Being a grandson of the great John "Jobber" McGrath (and bearing
a striking resemblance) give Daniel a certain "Street Cred" in
GAA circles. While the Jobber was best known for his legendary hurling
skills, not many people will know that he was also a talented footballer
and member of the 1953 Ballycomoyle team who reached the County Junior
final of that year. |
