A.G.M.
We
held our A.G.M. in the Pollard Arms Hotel on Friday night
7th February. The meeting was well attended and a number of key
issues were discussed. Outgoing Chairman Seamus Leahy opened the meeting,
which was then followed by the secretary's report which was given by Marius
Reilly who was standing in for outgoing secretary Des Carter. Maureen Fay,
outgoing treasurer, then gave a statement of accounts. Dermot McKenna was next up
and gave a report on the underage astatines during the year. A more
detailed report on the underage will be given at a later date. Seamus McDermott
who is involved in the Ladies football gave his report. An A.G.M./Presentation
Night will take place for the Ladies, details of which will appear later.
Following on from the reports the Lotto was discussed and it was agreed that it
should be restructured at the next monthly committee meeting. The election of
Officers were as follows: Chairman - John Smith, Secretary - Marius Reilly,
Treasurer - Ann Dermody, Delegates to Co. Board - John Smith, Des Carter, Seamus
Fay. Registrar - John Lynch, P.R.O. Ray Farrelly. Representatives to St
Michaels Club - John Smith, Michael McCormack, Andy McEoin, Enda Kieran and
Dermot McKenna. The new trainers for the coming year were selected and are
Marius Reilly and Tossy Brady, both of whom have given many years of service to
the Club. We wish them well for the coming year. The chairman thanked
all for coming and wished the players a successful year in all grades.
Finally, we would like to wish Johnny Corrigan the best of luck in his new
venture, Pollard Karting Ltd., Castlepollard.

TRAINING
Training
for the junior team has re-commenced on wednesday night last 4th February. The turnout was poor
probably owing to the fact that people were not aware of
starting date, training will be on wednesday nights at 8pm until further notice, everybody
is encouraged to come along. It is essential for the life
of the club that we can get as many young players as possible involved in the
junior team. Players like Neil Salmon, Keith Weldon, Paddy Cooney, Steven
Reilly, Gary Farrelly, Patrick Smith and Ian Coyle, all who made a big
impact when introduced at various times last year and hopefully they will
progress further this year. It is proposed that we might be able to
arrange a challenge game in the next few weeks, details will appear shortly.
A committee meeting was held on Tuesday night last 17th February in Murray's a
number in key issues were up for discussion and a report will appear next week.
BLOOD
TRANSFUSION
The
Blood Transfusion Board will be in Castlepollard G.A.A. Centre on next Monday

to attend and new donors are always welcome.

FUND
RAISING
We
are holding a Grand Prix in Pollard Karting Centre on Thursday 4th March @
7.30pm, 20 drivers will compete and they are currently looking for sponsorship
of E5 per line. It is hoped that we will be able to raise much needed
funding and your support would be greatly appreciated. Cards are available
from Marius Reilly.
LOTTO
At
our recent committee meeting our club lotto was discussed in detail. It
was decided that the only way for the lotto to survive if more people put
their "shoulder to the wheel" and begin selling lotto tickets. A
yearly lotto scheme was discussed and our lotto committee shall decide at a
further date as to whether to proceed with such a scheme or not. Our lotto was
held in McCormacks on Tuesday night last and results will appear next week.
MEMBERSHIPS
Membership
is now due, E40 per adult and E50 per family. Seamus Fay was appointed to
collect the memberships, especially among the players. A special draw will
take place at the end of March for all of those who have paid their membership
before that date.
LADIES
he
ladies are holding their A.G.M. in the Pollard Arms on Friday night the 5th
March @ 7.30pm. All persons involved are asked to attend. Following a
good year for the ladies team, it is hoped that they might go one better
this year. A Presentation night will take place in the Town and
Country @ 9.30pm on the same night.
TRAINING
Training
has now switched to Tuesday nights @ 8.00pm, a lot of players have yet to
"air their boots". It is essential that young players are
encouraged to join our junior squad. Players like Neil Salmon, Patrick
Smith, Ian Coyle, Steven Reilly, Damien Clogher and Patrick Cooney all did well
when called upon last year.
GAME
Our
first outing of the year took place in Ballycomoyle on Sunday last. We
went down to a hungrier St. Fintans/Multyfarnham side. A sheer lack of
fitness and match practice was clearly evident and much improvement is needed.
Final score was St. Fintans/Multyfarnham 2. 08 to Ballycomoyle 0.06.
SYMPATHY
The
Club would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the family of the late Sean
Coleman, Loughpark and to the family of the late Joe Kilcoyne, Kiltoom.

Div.7
On
Sunday last we travelled to Ballinagore to play them in this league fixture. Conditions
were perfect for football and despite leading for most of the
game we ended up having to share the spoils. It was very encouraging to see such
a great turnout for this away fixture including some of our "A"
players who came to support our "B" side. Some of our younger players
played very well on the day John Molloy was steady in goals, Patrick Smyth done
well in the back line while Paddy Cooney and "Digger" Doyne played
exceptionally well in the forwards. Niall McKenna was outstanding at full back. Team: J. Molloy, P. Smyth, N. Mc
Kenna, S.Carroll, G.Farrelly, B.Smyth, R.Fagan, T.Brady, B.Ryan, P.Molloy,
J.Williams, K.Weldon, D.Doyne, D.Fagan, P.Cooney
Subs:S.Reilly, S.Farrelly, E.Kiernan, B.Halpin, N.Salmon, A.Fagan.
Just a reminder, training is on Tuesday nights at 8 pm please
make
an effort to attend.
LADIES
Our
ladies are holding their A.G.M. in the Pollard Arms at 7.30pm on Friday night
next, 5th March. All persons involved are asked to attend. We are
especially appealing to the parents of underage girls to attend. A
presentation night follows in the "Town and Country" at 9.30pm
for our Junior Championship runners-up. A good night is expected.

held our lotto on Tuesday night last, directly following a committee meeting.
Details of both next week.
FUND
RAISER
Our
Grand Prix in Pollard Karting Centre has switched to next Thursday night 11th
March at 7.30pm. A rumor of unofficial practice has been circulating as
people are trying to get into gear for what promises to be a very exciting and
enjoyable night. We already have a stockcar/hot rod champion in our club and
I believe the pressure is on him to show his talents on the night. Sponsorship cards are out and support would be greatly appreciated.

the lotto from now on, all will be revealed in due course.
LADIES
Our
ladies held their A.G.M. in the Pollard Arms on Friday night last 5th March, the
meeting was quite well attended, officers were elected as follows: Chairman -
Seamus McDermott, Secretary - Claire Coyle, P.R.O. - Theresa Nea, Ladies finances
- Maureen Fay, who is also going to assist Ann Dermody in the overall treasurers
position. A presentation night was held for the Junior Championships
runners-up in the Town and Country on the same night. The turnout was small but a
good night was had by all who attended, compliments to Gerry and Theresa
Nea for putting such an effort into the night. Training for the ladies
gets underway on Saturday evening 13th March at 6.30pm sharp, Marius Reilly has
taken charge of training again and is looking forward to a successful season.

our own Grand Prix in Pollard Karting Centre in Thursday night 11th March
at 6.45pm sharp. Please bring cards and sponsorship monies on the night.

Jordan might have a spy present to see if we have any potential F1 drivers.
Remember, 6.45pm sharp, please be on time.

FUNDRAISING
We
held our Grand Prix in Pollard Karting Centre on Thursday night last 11th March
and boy was it a huge success. Firstly, may I say that Johnny and the boys
might have to change the name over the door to "The Ultimate Experience Centre". These machines provide the driver with a mixture of
emotions. There is a similarity to the F1 scene yet, you can throw these
karts around the place like a Mark 2 Escort Rallycar with armfuls of opposite
lock. The competition that ensues with the other drivers is just
fantastic. The night began with a 10 lap practice session followed by 6
computerized timed laps and this is where things started to "hot
up" both on the track and off. Friendly banter was the order of the
night and there was lots of that. Next we proceeded with quarter finals
which determined the grid positions for the semi-finals and then it was down to
the "shoot out" of the final to see who would be crowned "speed
king of Ballycomoyle". Tossy Brady, Noel Smith, Ciaran Smith and
Derek Cheevers we the contenders and at the end of an exhilarating 10 laps, Noel
Smith came out victorious with the tidy Ciaran Smith second, Derek Cheevers
third and Tossy Brady fourth. The three first placed drivers received
beautiful trophies as mementos of their achievements. Over all it was a
superb night, our thanks to Johnny Corrigan and all his staff who are so
professional in their duties. Marks out of 10 I'd have to say 10/10, so
for any club or group of people who want on inexpensive night out Pollard
Karting Centre is the place to go, I guarantee that you will not be
disappointed. Finally, I would like to thank all who took part on the
night and a special word of thanks to everyone who supported through
sponsorship. Any cards not yet returned, please get them to Marius as soon
as possible.
TRAINING
Our
training continues for the junior and minor players on Tuesday and Thursday
nights at 8.00pm. Attendance at training has been quite varied, but we are
appealing to everyone to please make an effort to come down. It was good
to see some semi-retired faces back at training last week in the shape of "Pepe, Liam
and Noodles". Keep up the good work lads. The ladies were back
training on Saturday evening last and I believe that there was a good turnout.
We are scheduled to play Ballynacarragy in A.C.L.F. D.6 on St. Patrick's Day.
Full report next week and the results from the Lotto.
SCOR
At
a recent committee meeting it was decided that we should enter Scor in as many
events as possible in both Scor na Nog and Scor Sinsear for next season. An
organising committee will be set up in the coming months to prepare for such a
large task. Full details later on during the year.

On
St. Patrick's Day we travelled to Ballynacarrigy to play them in this fixture and
after a good performance we ended up sharing the spoils. Defence played well on
the day, Jim Ward was outstanding at midfield while our forwards showed lack of
match practice. It is hoped that we will organise challenge games in the coming
weeks. Team: M. Reilly, S. Carroll, D. Cheevers, P. Smith, R. Fagan, B.

LOTTO
We
held our lotto in Kennedy's Bar, Castepollard on Tuesday night 30th March,
directly following a well attended committee meeting. There was no winner
and the numbers drawn were 9,13,16,23. The E30 winners were as follows
Johnny Hannon, Patricia Lynch, Nan Hughes, Sean Fay and Michael, Peter and Grace
McKenna. The next lotto draw is on 13th April and the jackpot is €2,600.
LADIES
On
Saturday evening 27th March we had a challenge game against Tyrellspass.
It was a very good exercise for both teams and Ballycomoyle came out victorious.
A number of our younger players got a chance to show their talents. Our
thanks to Tyrellspass for making the journey up. On Sunday evening last
4th April, our junior team of Ballycomoyle/St, Paul's entertained Loughnavalley
in the first round of the league. It would have to be said that
Ballycomoyle were very understrenght, but after a gritty performance they held
on to win by 6 points. Sinead Kilmurray was outstanding and we were also
served well by Carla and Orlene Smith and Orla Doolin. The next game is
fixed for 18th April against Tyrellspass.
UNDERAGE
Our
underage training begins in earnest on Friday 16th April at 7.00pm. We are
having an enrolment/registration on the same night which will take place before
and after training. It is important for parents to encourage their children to
take part in sporting activities, so we are asking for all boys and girls under
8, under 10, under 12 and younger to be in Ballycomoyle at 6.45pm.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership
is now due and has been very slow in coming in . We are urging people to
pay as soon as possible, as everybody knows the running of a club in this day
and age is a very costly job.
TRAINING
Our
junior and minor teams are training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm.
Turnout has declined in recent weeks and with a championship just around the
corner we have to get down to business. A special word of praise must go
to our minors who were on the St. Michael's team which defeated The Downs on
Saturday evening last, well done lads. A challenge game has been organised
for our junior team against St. Brigids in Ballycomoyle on Friday evening 9th
April at 4.00pm This should be a very good hard-fought contest similar to
previous encounters.

Challenge
Match
On
Good Friday evening our juniors travelled into the "Royal County" to
play our near neighbours Ballinacree. This was a very typical example of the kind
of football that you expect from a Meath team ;tough, rough and sporting.
After an evenly contested first half we went in at half time with a three point
deficit and with wind advantage in the second half, a win looked possible. Our opponents
had other ideas and really turned up the "wick" towards the
end of the game and came out convincing winners in the end. Truth told, it was
very much of a learning process for us as we had a very youthful and experimental
side out on the night. Ronan Fagan and Seamus Carroll played well in defence
whilst the high fielding of Jim Ward was a pleasure to watch at midfield, Billy Ryan and Joey Williams tried hard throughout and Derek
"Gooser" Cheevers
was a tower of strength at full forward. Brian Conlon, Damien Clogher and Brendan
Halpin gave a good account of themselves when called upon: Team and Subs:
M.Reilly, P.Smyth, R.Fagan, S.Carroll, B.Halpin, B.Smyth, G.Farrelly, T.Brady, J.Ward, D.Gorman, B.Ryan, J.Williams, D.Clogher,
D.Cheevers, P.Molloy, K.Peppard, A.Smith, C.Smyth, E.Boylan, M.Halpin,
B.Clonon.

On
Easter Sunday morning we travelled to Drumraney to play Maryland in this
fixture, we were very much understrenght for this and despite the best efforts
of those that bothered to show up, Maryland came out easy winners. The trainers
and management were very disappointed with the turnout for this fixture and
unless there is a serious improvement in numbers at training, drastic
measures will have to be taken. Training is on Thursday nights at 7.45pm please
be there.
UNDERAGE
Training
for the Boys and Girls U.12,U.10,U.8 and younger commences this friday
evening 16th April at 7pm.There will be enrolement before and after training so
arrive in good time. Parents are encouraged to help out as much as possible
in training especially at this age group to ensure that the children get as much
enjoyment as possible out of football.
LADIES
Our
junior ladies are scheduled to play Tyrellspass on Sunday evening next 18th April, for
all those concerned please check with Marius for details of time and
venue. Full report next week.

We
held our lotto draw in The Pollard Arms Hotel, Castlepollard on Tuesday night
13th April, the numbers drawn were 11,22,25,27.There was no winner, the E30
winners were Matt Moore, Paddy Smyth, Seamus Leahy and Niall Mc Kenna. The next
draw will be in The Seven Wonders Bar, Fore on Tuesday night 27th April, the jackpot now stands at E2,800. Also on the same night and in the same venue we
will hold our monthly committee meeting at 9.30 pm sharp, all relevant persons are
asked to attend.
CHALLENGE
MATCH
On
Thursday evening last 15th April, we made the long journey down to Geashill in
Offaly to play them in a challenge game. We had an excellent turnout for this
game and despite playing some very good football in the second half, we were
forced to come out second best on this occasion. Our thanks to Geashill for
this very good workout and also our thanks to everybody who made the trip down. We
were scheduled to play Delvin in A.C.L.F. Div.7 on Saturday evening last, but due to weather conditions the match had to be called off at a very late
stage. After our excellent challenge game on Thursday evening we were eager to
get in a league match, but unfortunately this was not to be. Again our thanks to
everyone who made the journey to Delvin on Saturday evening. Training continues
for our juniors and minors on Thursday evenings at 7.45pm and we are once again appealing
to everybody to make the effort to attend.
LADIES
Our
junior Ladies travelled to Tyrrellspass on Sunday morning last to play in Div.
2. This was a very poor performance by everybody and we ended up giving
way to a more eager, fitter and better drilled side. On Friday next 23rd April, we are scheduled to play the Downs in Ballycomoyle at 7.00pm. We
are asking everybody to be in the Park no later than 6.45pm. Our under 14
girls are away to Loughnavalley this evening, Thursday at 7.00pm we are leaving
Castlepollard at 6.00pm. On Tuesday evening next 27th April, our under 12 girls
are away to Mullingar Shamrocks in Springfield at 7.00pm, again we will be
leaving Castlepollard at 6.00pm. For further details contact Claire.
UNDERAGE
Our
underage training for the boys and girls U.12, U.10, U.8 and younger got off to
a good start on Friday evening last. Despite the fact that our training clashed
with an U.12 hurling game between Lough Lene Gales and Castlepollard we still
managed to attracted a large crowd. We are very thankful to the parents
that helped out on the night and we are encouraging more parents to become
involved. Our U.12 boys were scheduled to play C.F.C.W. on Wednesday
evening last 21st April, full report next week. Training continues every
Friday evening at 7.00pm in Ballycomoyle. Our U.12 girls played Clan
Bronnin recently and were beaten. We also played the Downs U.12 and
despite playing very well we lost on a score line of 2:1 to 1:2. Great credit
must go to our U.14, U.16 and Minors that are playing with St. Michael's, so far
they have won all games played.

LOTTO
On
Tuesday night last 27th April, we held our club lotto in "The Seven Wonders
Bar",Fore. The number's drawn were as follows 2,4,23,25.There was no winner, the
E30 winner's were, Aidan Campbell, Pauric Sheridan, Charles Kennedy, Kathy Brady and Aisling
Duffy. The next draw will be in the Town and Country, Castlepollard on Tuesday 11th May and the jackpot shall be E3,000.
Sincere thanks to everybody involved in running the lotto.

Div.7
On
Saturday evening 24th April, our second team made the journey to Delvin for the
second week in succession. We were short a few of our key players on the night
and at the end of the game the scoreboard duly reflected this. The only
thing that we could take home from this game is that even though we were very
much understrenght for this game, we still managed to play some nice football.
Training for our Junior and Minor teams continues on Thursday night at 7.45pm
and we are also having a training session Saturday evening next at 4.45pm, which
will be followed by a very important players meeting. It is essential that
everybody attends this training session as a number of key issues shall be
discussed at the meeting i.e. Captain, memberships, commitment, etc.
LADIES
Our
ladies continue to keep the flag flying high for Ballycomoyle, when on Friday
evening 28th April they overcame The Downs in a very competitive Div.2
game. It is hard to single out any players because this was a wonderful
team performance. Their next outing in Div.2 is tomorrow evening Friday 7th May
in Ballycomoyle v Clan Gaels at 7.00pm. This is going to be an extremely
tough game and more especially as, it is our first meeting from when
they defeated us in last years final. All ladies are asked to be in the park, no
later than 6.45pm. Support would be greatly appreciated for this game.
Our U.12 girls recently played Shandonagh and won, the following week they
played Mullingar Shamrocks and despite playing very well, they were defeated.
Our U.14 girls played Loughnavalley last week and won, a great result, and
hopefully they will continue their winning ways in the following weeks.
UNDERAGE
Our
under 12 boys played their old rivals Finea on Wednesday 21st April in
Ballycomoyle and were beaten by a narrow margin, better luck next time. All
members of the team played very well and it was only the first time a lot of
them played as a group together. They were due to play Delvin on Wednesday
5th, result next week.
COMMITTEE
MEETING
On
Tuesday 27th April we held a meeting in the Seven wonders bar, Fore and despite
a very late start, we had a very constructive meeting. One of the main
topics on the night was the registration/enrolment of our underage player.
It was decided that Mrs. Fay will be enrolling children in Ballycomoyle at
training on Friday evening next 7th May at 7.00pm. We would encourage all
parents of girls in the Coole/Whitehall/Collinstown areas to bring their
children to training and register on Friday evening. Another burning issue
in the club at present is the lack of paid up membership. This will have
to be addressed in the coming weeks.
SPONSORED
HEAD SHAVE
On
a lighter note, in a bid to raise much needed funds for the ladies side of the
club, a sponsored head shave has been organised. It is due to take place
in the Seven Wonders Bar on Saturday night 10th July at 10.00pm. Marius Reilly
(who has much experience in this department) was deemed to be master of
ceremonies on the night. It promises to be a great night and already we
have at least 10 heads volunteered. More details to follow in the coming weeks.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations
and best wishes are extended to Christy Brady and Aisling O'Neill, who were
married recently. Christy has been a long standing member of the Ballycomoyle
club and we look forward to both Christy and Aisling possibly helping out in the
future at underage training. We wish them both well in their new home in
Freighmore.

UNDERAGE
Our
U.12 girls played Rochfordbridge on Tuesday evening last and were defeated.
Our thanks to everyone who travelled to the game. Our U.14 girls are not
due to play until May 20th. Our U.12 boys travelled to Delvin on
Wednesday evening last and they too were also defeated. We were short a
number of our stronger players on that evening and at best we have a small squad
with a number of our players still playing U.10. So keep the heads up
lads. Training continues every Friday evening for all boys and girls from U.12
and younger. It starts at 7.00pm and lasts for approximately an hour.
For the last number of weeks there has been a great turnout for the U.10's and
we hope to organise a number of games in the not too distant future.
ST.
MICHAELS
Our
U.14's started off the year with a good win away to Streete/Multy. However, in
the next round we had to play both The Downs and Mullingar Shamrocks and on both
occasions found these teams much stronger. Our U.16 team and Minor team
are progressing well and both have a number of victories under their belts.
LADIES
The
ladies game versus Clan Gaels was cancelled on Friday evening last due to the
county team playing at the weekend. Our next game is on Friday evening in
Kilbeggan against Kilbeggan and this will be a very tough task.
JUNIORS
On
Thursday evening last 6th May and Saturday 8th May, we had a very big turnout at
training. It was very encouraging to see so many, some old and some new
faces. After training on Saturday evening we held our players meeting.
This was very constructive and some times argumentative. The main issue on
the agenda was the underage coaching levy. There was unanimous opposition
to this levy, especially as only 1 school out to 3 in our area is receiving
coaching. However, despite all the opposition and the financial burden
that this is going to put on the club, everyone present expressed their desire
to play competitive football in Westmeath and the only way of doing this was by
giving into the County Board and pay the levy. This is definitely not the
last that we will hear about this levy as a number of the smaller clubs, like
ourselves, have said that they will fight tooth and nail for its removal.
The other issue that night was the election of team captain, a very important
position. David "The Rocker" Gorman was elected without
opposition and was applauded by all present. David has been and still is a
very influential player in our club and we wish him and the rest of the squad
the best of luck in the months ahead.
SNIPPETS
Our
sincere thanks to Niall McCormack for keeping the pitch looking splendid.
It has to be one of the best in the county at present. We welcome Gerry
Farrelly onto the U.10 coaching team. He joins up with Liam Leahy and
Frank Gilsenan and all are doing a great job. Birthday wishes are extended
to Billy Corrigan, Mooretown, who celebrated his birthday recently. Speedy
recovery to John Ward, Loughpark, who had an operation recently, we look forward
to seeing John back in the "Bal" colours in the near future.

LOTTO
On
Tuesday night last 11th May, we held our club lotto in the "Town and
Country". Numbers drawn were 1, 11, 14, 28. There was no winner. E30
winners are as follows; Stephen Bohan, David Murphy, John Lynch, Gerard Halpin
and Anthony Rogan. Next draw will be in Doynes, Glendian on Tuesday 25th May
which will be preceded with our monthly committee meeting. The new jackpot now
stands at E3,200.
LADIES
Our
ladies suffered a defeat at the hands of a very sharp Kilbeggan side on Friday
evening last. Our opponents were sharper, fitter and more eager on the
night and above all they played as a team. We face Loughnavalley on Friday
night 21st May in Loughnavalley. Further details contact Marius.
LEVY
CAUSES TURMOIL
Despite
the players deciding to give into the "bully tactics" of the county
board and pay the underage coaching levy, it has caused much concern with other
committee members. Hopefully in the very near future we shall decide, what
course of action to take with this matter. Training continues for our
Junior and Minor squads on Thursday evening at 7.45pm. We are hoping to
arrange a challenge match for Saturday evening next.
SYMPATHY
Sincere
sympathy is extended to the Briody family, Moylough on the sudden death of
Benny, affectionately known to many as "Big Benny". Benny was a
true and loyal follower of Meath football but he often frequented games in
Westmeath to support his workmates from Dromone Engineering. The huge
attendance, both at the removal and funeral bore testament to the high esteem in
which he was held. May he rest in peace. Sympathy is also extended
to the Heery family, Ballinacree on the tragic death of Raymond. May he
rest in peace.
SNIPPETS
Best
wishes to Jim Ward, Loughpark who recently opened his garden centre in
Collinstown. Word has it that the club Chairman is well rested after his recent
holidays. Marius is reported to be looking for "direction" when
it comes to refereeing !!! Seamus Leahy is still not giving into pressure
to get his head shaved for the sponsored "Head Shave". It is
definitely worth a lot of money. More bits next week......

LOTTO
On
Tuesday night 29th May, we held our club lotto in Doyne's of Glenidan, there was
no winner. The numbers drawn were 1,11,17,18. The E30 winners were
Ollie Lee, Mel Leahy, Paul Meehan, Groetti Goldrick and Nadine Farrelly.
The next draw will be in Meehan's Coole on Tuesday 8th June and your support
would be greatly appreciated. The new jackpot now stands at E3,400.
"RYAN
HITS FORM"
On
Saturday evening last 24th May, our Junior team were rewarded with a win after a
very evenly contested game against Milltownpass. Billy Ryan, playing at
centre forward, really did hit form and scored 6 points out of a final score of
1 - 10 to 1 - 08. We were short a lot of key players on the night, notably
David Gorman, Sean McEoin, Marius Reilly, Keith Weldon, Paddy Cooney, Daniel
Carty and Mark McNicholas. On the night we were very well served by Niall
McKenna and Tossy Brady in defence and the work rate of Joey Williams and Enda
Kiernan was outstanding. Overall this was a huge team performance and with
the same attitude going into the championship, the "Bal" will be hard
stopped. A special word of thanks to the Ringtown Hurling Club for loaning
us their jerseys at very short notice. The team that lined out: R.
Farrelly, P. Smith, N. McKenna, B. Halpin, G. Farrelly, T. Brady, I. Coyle,
J. Ward, R. Fagan, S. Reilly, B. Ryan, D. Fagan, J. Williams, E. Kiernan, S.
Carroll. Subs: D. Cheevers for R. Farrelly, D. Cunningham for I. Coyle, R.
Farrelly for S. Carroll and I. Coyle for B. Halpin. A reminder that
training continues every Thursday evening at 7.45pm for Junior and
minor squads.
UNDER
12
Our
U. 12's were quite busy last week with games against Multy/Streete and
Shandonagh. They drew with Multy/Streete and were narrowly defeated by
Shandonagh. There is a serious problem with players not making themselves
available for the U.12 games and unless this changes we will have to withdraw
from all U.12 fixtures. Our U.10's are doing very well in their training
and it is hoped to have a tournament in the near future.
LADIES
At
the time of going to press there was no information available regarding ladies
games and fixtures. Apologies to all concerned, hopefully we will be able
to resolve this issue for next week.
COMMITTEE
MEETING
We
held our monthly committee meeting in Doynes on Tuesday night last. It was
very poorly attended and certain important issues were unable to be discussed.
All committee members must attend in order for the Club to move forward.

CHAMPIONSHIP
On
Saturday evening last 5th June, we were defeated quite convincingly by
Loughnavalley on a scoreline of 2 -9 to 0 - 8. This is a game that we will
have to try and leave behind us as quickly as possible. Nothing seemed to
go right for us on the night and I suppose, the result reflects the effort that
has been put in at training in recent months. The game itself was of poor
quality but Loughnavalley were fitter, sharper and better prepared on the night.
Barry Smith got us off to a perfect start with a well taken point in the first
minute, than a couple of bad wades followed and then against the run of play, a
defensive error let Loughnavalley in for a goal. They piled on the
pressure and freely scored some points in quick succession to leave the half
time score 1-5 to 0-3. Stern words at half time did instill some very good moves
which resulted in some well taken scores after the interval, which closed the
gap to 1 point. However another defensive error let our opponents in for a
soft goal and from there on they controlled matters to leave the final score 2-9
to 0-8. Overall we were second best in every sector. On a positive note
Ballycomoyle was well served again by the every reliable Niall McKenna, Tossy
Brady and Joey Williams. Derek Cheerves made his presence felt when
introduced and has a bright future ahead of him. Training continues on
Thursday nights at 8.00pm for our junior and minors squads, and after last
Saturday night we most knuckle down to the task. For anybody that
feels they need a little extra there will be physical training on Tuesday
evenings at 8.00pm. This is optional but we would appreciate if as many
people could attend as possible.
LADIES
The
Ladies scene had been quiet for the past few weekends, however, preparation
for the Junior Championship continues with training at usual time on Saturday
evenings and now also on a Thurdsay evening at 7.00pm. It is essential
that everybody makes an effort to attend. Our U.14 girls played St.
Pauls last week and this was a very entertaining game.

HEAD SHAVE
Our

be held in "The Seven Wonders Bar". Notable volunteers at
the moment are David "The Rocker" Gorman, whose hairstyles
are often a talking point, next up is "Pats Hat", who said
that if enough was raised he would lose the beard. The main
character, who at the moment is looking for a cheap flight to Spain,
is a certain "Mr. Leahy", enough said. Sponsorship cards are now
available from Marius and it is important to try and raise as much funds as
possible. More later.

Div.6
We
were defeated by Bunbrosna recently in a Div.6 game. It was a game that we
really should have won but a very poor turnout on the night did not help our cause. The

E.Kiernan, B.Smyth,B.Ryan, R.Fagan, K.Weldon, D.McNicholas, S.Reilly, M.Halpin,

Div. 6
On
Wednesday the 23rd June we played Finea in Finea and we were defeated following
a good sporting game. Again our fitness levels were to blame. Our
opponents opened the scoring very early on and it was always going to be an
uphill struggle. We can be quite content with the way we finished the game
but unfortunately it was too little too late. Team: M. Reilly, E. Kiernan, N.

LADIES
Our
Ladies are busy preparing for the semi-final of the Junior Championship versus
Tyrellspass and as a run up to this game we have had a few challenge games
and also Div. 2 games. The latest game was played last Thursday night
against Tyrellspass and despite a wonderful team performance we were defeated by
a single point. It was a game of trial and error and we did some
experimenting and we were quite happy with the results. Training continues
on Monday and Thursday evenings and we urge everyone to attend.
UNDERAGE
Our
under 12 girls were defeated by Tyrellspass last week, while our under 14 girls
played The Downs and won. We would like to wish Grace McKenna a speedy

against Multyfarnham and Delvin. They were due to play St. Paul's on Saturday
afternoon in Ballycomoyle, report next week. Training continues every

We
held our monthly committee meeting in the "Abbey House" on the 22nd

as many lines as possible. There will be a draw on the night for everyone
that has pledged money. First prize will be a portable TV, the other
prizes will be announced at a later stage. On Saturday 3rd July, we are
meeting in Ballycomoyle at 2.00pm to line out the pitch permanently and also to
clean up the grounds. We are looking for as much help as possible.
Also on Saturday 3rd July, we are hoping to organise a meeting of all team
mentors at 3.30pm in Ballycomoyle. It is hoped that this meeting will help
everyone concerned. For more information contact Marius on club phone.

A.C.L.F.Div.6
On
Tuesday evening 29th June we played Loughnavalley in Ballycomoyle and since this
was the first meeting from when they defeated us in the championship we were
eager to make amends. On the night we were again short a number of key players, but
however following a good, hard sporting game we emerged victorious by
a margin of two points. It was great to see a number of dual players back in the
"Balle" colours and indeed they were very influential in the final result. One
item that must be mentioned at this point is the disregard that some
people have for time, if training or a game is fixed for a certain time, a number
of people are arriving late, which makes life difficult for everyone. Team that
lined out against Loughnavelly; M.Reilly, S.Carroll, N.McKenna, P.Smyth,
K.Weldon, T.Brady, R.Fagan, B.Ryan, D.Carty, J.Williams, B.Smyth, D.McNicholas

contested game, we wish them the best of luck

JUNIOR
CHAMPIONSHIP
Our
ambitions of reaching the final of the junior Championship took a serious blow
when we suffered our second defeat of the year on Friday evening last by Delvin.
The game started at a cracking pace and everything seemed to be going right for
Ballycomoyle. We had some very good passes of play. Barry Smith opened the
scoring for us with a well taken point followed by Jim Ward with another point.
Billy Ryan converted a free for another point and the n Barry Smith had a superb
point from a side-line lick. The sides had only one point between them at
the half time. Missed opportunities proved costly for us in the second
half, when against the run of play,Delvin scorched down the field and the ball
ended up in our net, moments later, an exact replica of what had happened,
resulted in another goal. We were six points down at this stage and
an excellent solo effort from David Cunningham resulted in a well taken goal
followed by a point from Mark McNicholas. Final score was 2:08 to 1:09 in
favor of Delvin. On the night we were well served by Enda Kiernan, Joey
Williams, David Cunningham and Barry Smith. Team: M. Reilly, D. Clogher.
Brady, S. Carroll, P. Cooney, E. Kiernan, G. Farrelly, R. Fagan, B. Ryan,

On
Wednesday evening of last week our Ladies gracefully bowed out of the Junior
Championship, at the hand's of Tyrellspass. We were quite disappointed with our

the amount of youthful player's coming up through the ranks the future of
ladies football in Ballycomoyle seems safe.

BRILLIANT
U10's
Pride
of place has to go this week to our wonderful U.10 team, which won the
"B" final of the North Westmeath U.10 League. We ran out easy winners
in the end but our opponents did put up a great fight. Overall it was a
wonderful team performance both on the field and off it. The management team
have to be congratulated for having everybody and everything so well prepared
and it was magnificent to see all the children so well mannered and respectful
to their mentors. Scorers on the day were, John Coyle 1g4p, John Egan 1g3p,
Matthew Gilsenan 1g1p, Shane Fitzimons 1g. A special mention must go to our
superb goalie Emmet Kane who saved numerous point blank shots in the second
half. A word of thanks to everybody who helped out on the day and to the parents
who came to support the teams, it was a wonderful day and the future of football
in Ballycomoyle looks very promising. A reminder that training continues every
Friday evening at 7p.m for all U.8, U.10 and U.12. Our U.12's have games coming up shortly so it is important to put in the effort in training. It is hoped that
we shall be running an U.8 blitz in the near future, details to follow in the
coming weeks.
JUNIORS:
Our
championship woes continue with a crushing defeat by St.Pauls last week. Again,
as in all other games our level of fitness and our ability to play
intelligent football let us down badly. The bottom line is that we have to go
back to the basics and build from there. Our "B" team lost to
St.Malachys on Saturday evening last, sincere thanks to everybody who turned up.

UNDERAGE
U12
Our
U12 mixed team travelled down to Milltown on Friday evening last 17th September
to play Millmore Gaels in the league. Despite a wonderful team performance
we were defeated in extremely controversial circumstances by 2 points. The
team and management were extremely disappointed with the refer and the very
peculiar decisions that he made. There antics sent out the wrong signals
to these youngsters and at a time when we are trying to teach youngsters to
respect referees an their decisions. This game really showed up the ugly
side of the GAA. Also at this point I should include a mentor from
Millmore Gaels who was dressed in an illuminous jacket, who should be ashamed of
his conduct at this game - shame on him. Back to the field of play. It was a
wonderful team performance, Cian Farrelly was a rock at full back, while Karen
Coyle was outstanding at centre helped very well by Brendan Doyle. Tommy
Gallagher and Robbie Craig combined well at midfield and up front Niall
Fitzsimons, Brian Smyth, Shauna Byrne and John Egan played very well. Team as
follows: W. O'Reilly, D. Connell, C. Farrelly, C. Clogher, M. Comiskey, K. Coyle,
B. Doyle, R. Craig, T. Gallagher, A. Leahy, N. Fitzsimons, B. Smyth, S. Downey,
D. Lynch, S. Byrne, K. Sheil, J. Coyle, J. Egan, C. Sullivan.
On
a final note it must be said that it was wonderful to see a small club such as ours
being so competitive against the combination side of a Senior and Intermediate
club.

U
10
Pride
of place again this week has to go to our U10 team and team management. On
Wednesday evening last 22nd September we finished of our year in unforgettable fashion. Firstly a
challenge game was organised with our near neighbours
C/F/C/W. The game kicked off at a cracking pace and Ballycomoyle stamped their
authority on this game early on, we went in at half time with a comfortable
lead. However drama was to ensue at half time, when suddenly a figure came in
through the gates and proceeded to make his way towards the pitch. The person
was spotted and what followed next was unprecedented, the person was none other
than Alan Mangan and in a few seconds he was swamped by a legion of adorning
fans young and old. Needless to say the level of interest in playing the second
half was non-existent, however, match referee Jimmy Weldon, managed to restart
the game. Every player got a run and it was wonderful to see so much young
talent on display from both sides. Ballycomoyle managed to stay ahead and won
the game in the end. Alan presented trophies to both sides, and speeches
followed after this. I am not going into detail about the speeches, as we hope
to do a special feature next week on this historic occasion. At this point we
must convey our most sincere thanks to Alan for coming down to us, also thanks
to Ned Flynn and the C/F/C/W team for a worthwhile challenge game, thanks to the
parents and supporters and last but not least to Gerry Farrelly, Frank Gilsenan,
Liam Leahy and Seamus Leahy for organising everything so professionally from
flags and bunting on the gates to all the trophies, minerals, crisps etc, and for
all their hard work during the year....well done boys. Remember special feature
next week....
U12's
Our
U12 mixed squad are due to play Milltownpass in Milltownpass on Saturday next
2nd October at 11.30. A bus will leave Castlepollard at 10.15, Fore at 10.20 and
Collinstown at 10.30(approx.) A full turnout of players is requested and it
would be good to see more parents supporting their children. For more info.

U14
GIRLS
The
county U14 "C" Final took place in Rochfortbridge on Saturday last
where our girls took on Killbeggan. Unfortunately success did not come our
way on the day. Great credit is due to our girls for the spirited performance on
the day against a stronger more balanced Killbeggan team. Playing against the
wind in the first half, we trailed at half time. The second half saw a much
improved performance with every player giving it their all. Well done to the
panel of players for their efforts during the year. Thanks to Angie for having a
meal prepared for them on their return to Castlepollard. Ballycomoyle Team: Tracey
Kelly, Michelle Egan, Sinead Mc Nicholas, Ciara Tiernan, Tara O'Neill, Leighanne
Fox, Karen Coyle, Keri Flynn, Aisling Farrelly, Eamma Sammon,
Martina Murphy, Amy mc Hale, Roisin Mc Dermot, Aoife Higgins, Aisling Dermody. Subs: Ciara
Clogher for Aoife Higgins, Emer Mc Dermot for Aisling Dermody, Jane Coyle for Roisin Mc Dermot, Sarah Boylan for Karen
Coyle, Karen Coyle for Tracey Kelly (injured). We wish Tracey a speedy recovery from her
injury sustained.
JUNIOR
CUP
We
travelled to Loughnavalley on Saturday evening last to play them in the Junior
Cup, and, in very controversial circumstances, we were deemed to have lost by a
single point. A letter of appeal/complaint has been forwarded to the county
board and we await the outcome. The game itself was exciting ,and even though we
had an experimental side out on the night, we put in a great performance. Enda
Kiernan and Derek Mc Nicholas were good in defence while Ronan Fagan, Joey Williams and Barry Smyth caused a lot of problems for the Loughnavalley defence.
Team: M. Reilly, S. Carroll, T. Brady, S. Reilly, G. Farrelly, E. Kiernan,
P. Cooney, R. Fagan, D. McNicholas, P. Molloy, M. McNicholas, J.
Williams(1g) D. Fagan, B. Smyth(2g1p) P. Smyth, N. Salmon, K. Fitzpatrick, K.
Fox, B. Halpin, P. Walsh, M. Walsh.
Thanks to all the supporters who made the trip down on the evening.
WINTER
LEAGUE
At
the moment we are in the process of organising a winter league, for the junior
team, within our club, it is hoped that we could get everyone involved old
and new. This league would probably run on Saturday afternoons, and be 10 aside,
we are hoping for at least 6 or 7 teams. It has been suggested that there will
be a fee per team and prizes will be awarded at the end . It is hoped that we
shall run the same type of a league for our U12 team as there is a lot of
interest in playing more football for the rest of the year. More details to
follow in the coming weeks.
BEST
OF LUCK
Best
wishes are extended to Marius Reilly who has opened up his video store in Green St. Castlepollard. The new store "MARS" is said to
be "out of this
world" when it comes to the latest D.V.D. and Video releases, adding a new
dimension to the term "Home Entertainment". Marius has been and still
is a hard working and loyal servant to Ballycomoyle and we wish him every success.

U21
Our
U 21 team are fixed to play C/F/C/W on Sunday next 21st in Ballycomoyle at
2pm. We are pleading to all concerned to arrive on time as this is a very
important game, it is the first round of the U21"B" Championship and
if we have a full turnout of players, we could go well in this competition.
Players are reminded that we are having a training session tonight, Wednesday,
at 8 pm. Support on Sunday next would be greatly appreciated as these lads are
the future of our club in the years ahead.
PLAYING
FIELD
The
last month has been very quiet on the field of play, however we are hopeful of
swinging our winter league into action in the next few weeks. There seems to be
a lot of interest in it, and at the moment we are drawing up teams, if you want
to be included, contact Ray at 087-2264205. The league will be ran on Saturday
afternoons over a period of four to six weeks, and the emphasis will be on
pure enjoyment of the game. More details to follow in the coming weeks. Starting
from next week we will be putting in some history of the club on a weekly basis,
anyone with any information should contact a committee member, all info
welcome.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations
are extended to Mrs. Mary Ward, Carpenterstown, who celebrated her 90th birthday
recently. Also to club chairman John Smyth, who celebrated his 50th, rumour
has it that he was not sure what day his birthday fell on so, they celebrated it
for a few days just to be sure!!!!!!! Congratulations are also extended to Bill and
Kathleen Corrigan, Mooretown, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
recently. Congrats to Paul Ginnell and Helen on the birth of their first
child, a baby girl. Finally Congrats to Seamus Farrelly and Louise
Gallagher who got engaged recently, word has it that Seamus is making a big
comeback to the Junior Squad next year.
KEEP
FIT
As
we are reminded every day on the radio and television, it is important to
exercise on a regular basis for the good of our health. There are many ways of
doing a little at a time. We are very fortunate out here in Ballycomoyle to have
the beautiful village of Fore so close to us with all its walks and trails, on
the other side we have the equally beautiful Mullaghmeen forest, definitely
worth a visit for a leisurely stroll or brisk walk. Set Dance classes
have started in St. Peters Gym, Castlepollard, on Tuesday nights at 8pm and all
grades are catered for, more info contact Doreen at 044-62987. For the more
adventurous, why not try swimming, we have a wonderful pool in Mullingar and
classes are run at regular intervals.

U
21
Despite
the best efforts of our hard trying U 21 team, we were beaten by a sharper,
fitter and stronger side, of our old rivals C/F/C/W. The game was played
on Sunday last 20th November in a very wet and slippy Ballycomoyle pitch. From
early on in the match it was clearly evident that our defence were getting it
very hard to cope with tremendous pressure that was been applied by the
opponents forward line. The visitors went in at half time with a comfortable
lead and despite our lads putting in a great effort in the second half , C/F/C/H
emerged victorious by a sizeable margin. We can still be very proud of our lads
who never gave up trying until the very end, best for Ballycomoyle on the day
were Ronan Fagan, Gary Farrelly, Paddy Smyth, Ollie Boylan and Niall Mc Cormack.
The management were very disappointed by the lack of support on the day, and
also by the absence of six of our key players notably Mark Mc Nicholas, Steven Reilly, Derek
Mc Nicholas, Paddy Cooney, Daniel Carty and Keith Weldon. The result
could have been somewhat different if we had these quality players on board. On
a positive note, the future of the club looks healthy if we can harness
the potential of the lads that put in such a huge effort on Sunday last.
COMMITTEE
MEETING
A
very important committee meeting has been provisionally arranged for
"Murray's Lounge" on Tuesday night next 30th November at 9.30 pm, for
confirmation of this please contact Marius at 0860797726. Among the topics to be
discussed at the meeting will be our A.G.M., which is hopefully taking place
before Christmas. Another issue will be our winter league which has created a
huge interest at the minute.
SYMPATHY
The
club would like to extend their deepest sympathy to the family, relatives and
friends of the late Joe Farrelly, Martinstown. Joe was a kind, gentle and
sincere man, who had a huge interest in angling and sport. He will be sadly
missed by all who knew him. Sympathy is also extended to family relatives and
friends of the late Josephine Conaty, Collinstown. Josephine, a retired postmistress, will also be sadly missed by all who knew her . May they rest in
peace.

LOTTO
On
Tuesday night last 6th December we held our club lotto in "Farrellys Bar
",Castlepollard. The numbers drawn were 2,17,24,27, there was no jackpot
winner. The €30 winners were as follows, Larry Masterson, Brigid Fox, Ita
Halpin, Malachy Hand and Leslie Whyte. The next draw takes place in "The
Seven Wonders Bar", Fore on next Tuesday night 21st December. This draw is
our special Christmas draw with lots of fabulous to be won such as, Christmas Hamper, Turkey, Whiskey, Brandy, Petrol Voucher, Hardware Voucher etc, to name
but a few. Remember if you're not in you cannot win. Most importantly of
course is the jackpot which now stands at an incredible €6,000, this
would be a very nice way of easing some of the financial strains that now seems
to be such a part of Christmas in these times. The Club would sincerely like to
thank everybody who supported our lotto so well during the year and look forward
to your continued support in 2005. At this point we would also like to thank the
publicans in the surrounding areas for hosting the draws throughout the year,
and finally we would like to thank our hard working lotto committee who have
done a wonderful job all year long, well done to everyone concerned.
MEETING
On
Monday night last 5th December we held a very important meeting in Murray's Bar,
Castlepollard. This meeting was very well attended and was very constructive.
The future of the club was the main topic of discussion and an action plan has
been set in motion. Despite a very poor return from our Junior team this year
all other sections of the club have had quite a good year and everyone is
eagerly awaiting the 2005 season. A date for our A.G.M. has not yet been
finialised but indications are that it will be held in early January, ahead of
what promises to be a very competitive winter club league for the junior
squad. A club league for our juvenile section will probably not commence until March, more details to follow at a later date.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations
are extended to Saoirse Farrelly, Ballymanus and Amy Mc Nicholas, Killtoom, who
performed so well in the Leinster Irish Dancing, Championships held in Mullingar
recently. Saoirse won the overall U 7 section and Amy was 4th overall in the U 8
section, well done girls.
