PRESENTATION NIGHT
On Tuesday night 29th May, we held a very memorable presentation night
in Coole Hall for our U 12 team who won the "C" Championship last year.
The night will be forever etched on the minds of everyone who was
fortunate enough, to be in attendance on the night. A very special man
was in attendance on the night and it was Mr. Stephen Stack from Kerry.
Stephen did not come empty-handed as he brought "The Sam Maguire Cup",
with him for company. Stephen presented the medals to our wonderful
girls and Helen had a special word to say on each of the girls which was
added a lot of fun to the occasion. Stephen made a lovely speech and
emphasised that it is not always very important to be winning games but
stated that participation and enjoyment of the game was the most
important factor. He also stated that even when things are going bad,
keep the heads up and all will work out through time. For some people
who may not remember Stephen Stack, Stephen was a corner back for Kerry
in 1986 and 1997 when they won the All Ireland and Stephen was quick to
point out that indeed people do forget the corner backs, even though it
is probably the most difficult position on the entire field. A special
presentation was made to Sinead Connell, Alice Murphy and Jane Coyle by
the Chairperson of the Ladies County Committee, Mr. Tom Walsh. Tom
presented the girls with trophies to mark the occasion of all three
representing their County with distinction last year. It must be pointed
out that we were very grateful to Tom for making the special effort to
attend. Our own Club Chairman, Seamus Mc Dermott, presented Sean Óg
Doyne and Stephen Bardon with vouchers to mark their contribution in
helping St. Oliver’s Post Primary, Oldcastle achieving All-Ireland
success in the Schools Competitions. The final presentation of the night
was to Stephen Stack himself where he was presented with a piece of
"Genesis", which consisted of "The Children of Lir" which was very
appropriate and very gratefully received. It's never over till the final
whistle and indeed no night would be complete without a word from our
very "shy...!!", underage secretary, Mr. Dermot Mc Keanna. In Dermot's
speech, he traced back to when the Ladies section of our Club was formed
and gave a brief history on this. Dermot pointed out that it was very
poignant to note that the Cup that the girls received for the
Championship is "The Sean Coyle Memorial Cup" and that it is the late
Sean's daughter Jane, who had the pleasure of lifting it at the end of
last season. We all know and remember how deeply Sean was involved with
the setting up of the Ladies which has now grown into a huge section and
is always improving. Finally we would like to thank everyone for coming
to our night and to all those people who helped out in anyway to make
the night so special, Thank You All very much. |
